In some ways it comes across as Casey thought horhay would win sooner because he is so good. A kind of compliment if that makes sense?
Clearly it's trying to make headlines as it pits Stoner and Lorenzo against each other even to this day. I was always under the assumption they became pretty good friends after Lorenzo's rookie year.

I don’t think that's a ... as it is honest and rather complimentary except for the cockiness take (which is also true). It's the "journalists" who is painting it as a dig.

I agree. I think Stoner has nailed his colors long term to the Ducati mast rather than Honda, whom he left again even after his retirement as a race rider from HRC, and was never going to endorse Jorge going to HRC, whether or not it is a reasonable +/- the best option on an individual basis for Jorge.
