So I guess its a look atjust what folk think of Stoners move to Honda, prior to it happening.

i'm interested to see the pedrosa-stoner rivalry reignited. me thinks stoner will whoop pedrosas but. stoner has been doing since the lower classes with inferior machinery.

Stoner will discover that Repsol Honda "team" will be more of a challenge than his rival competitors.

+1

Stona will be .... on from the word go and if he whoops Dani's ... pre season

god help the bloke

Pug Repsol Spanish TV Dont want anyone spoiling the cartel

I'll say easily a win in the first five and wouldn't be shocked if race #1 is a win.

Actually once it was known that Stoner was going to Repsol, I had thought "I wonder if Doohan has anything to do with this?" or will he? Who has more clout? Puig has Dorna, Repsol and touchy HRC relation, yet Doohan would have better HRC ties and who knows what Dorna and Repsol think of Mick.

I agree. I think Stoner will be in for a rough ride with HRC. Honda/Repsol have pumped millions into getting Pedrosa to the title and have nothing to show for it....they even made a Pedrocycle class for him to clean up in and still nothing.

I will start the conspiracy that Honda got Stoner to take him out of the equation of being a threat to Pedrosa on race day. Honda knew they would not get Rossi, and they failed at luring Lorenzo over, but Stoner was an easy mark since Marlboro was pissed at his belly ache. Honda now controls 2 of the 4 aliens and I am sure Pedrosa will be the favorite in that camp. Honda must be pleased that Rossi will be at Ducati working out the bike during the 2011 season.

The last threat is Lorenzo on the Yamaha that he did very well on this year.....but now that Dani was coming to grips with the RC212V at the end he is making 2011 look like it might be his year. Honda has the engines working well within the limit rules...so Pedrosa just needs to keep 2 wheels up and Stoner will assist by having random podiums and a win or 2 to keep the other riders out of Pedrosa's point cushion.

Wrap your heads around that idea!!!

I think Stoner is only going to have problems if he struggles to get to grips with the bike when he arrives. I think if he's a little way behind Dani to begin with he may struggle to work his way back, but if he's quick from the off he'll be fine as far as politics go because HRC want their bikes to win.

Factory I had this same thought when I first heard of the news. However I don't think it is the first priority for Honda to shaft Stoner like this. Perhaps if Dani starts well then it could be an alternative.

My primary reaction to the news of Stoner joining HRC was that HRC's goal for Stoner was as a tool to displace Puig and Pedrosa. After all before Rossi it was Doohan piloting a Repsol Honda to victory and I am sure Honda and Repsol were content with this so why not another Australian.

I think another aspect of Honda's decision to take on Stoner was his reputation, right or wrong, that he is not a strong developer of the bike. Personally I do not believe this but it is the perception. Honda want people to believe that they develop a winning bike and the rider rides it to victory. Stoner is used to this as it is also Ducati's MO. Stoner has a strong ability to ride around issues with the bike, a skill that I think is lacking in his future Team Mate. With Stoner, Honda will be able to claim the bike won rather than Stoner as this perception already exists among many of the more casual race fans.

Finally, I feel that Honda are looking at life beyond Repsol anyway and this is the reason why Suppo was brought in. He may not have delivered the Repsol replacement yet but I have no doubt he will. I would not be surprised if he did have Red Bull lined up for a significant contribution but Stoner's poor form through the front 2/3's of the season made it near impossible to get them across the line. Had we seen Stoner winning races early on I think we would be talking about a 2 rider Factory Red Bull Honda Team with a single rider Factory Supported Repsol Honda Team for 2011.

As far as Stoner's first win on a Honda in 2011, well as someone else said earlier - Stoner owns Qatar.

This is almost exactly what I think, that casey was signed to replace pedrosa after 4 years unfruitful by honda's standards from pedrosa/puig with total backing from hrc, and that at the time they were prepared to dismiss any objections from repsol. Pedrosa's good form and stoner's indifferent results likely made stoner's position precarious and may have given him some impetus.

My speculation now after dovi's almost obsequious comments concerning stoner after the motegi race is that the plan may again be for stoner and dovi to be team-mates , with dani on a separate one -rider factory backed team, with hrc having perhaps extracted more money from repsol. I think previously that there may have been a plan for stoner rather than pedrosa to be on a separate team, or for pedrosa to go entirely.

I think there is definitely a Doohan link there in getting Stoner to HRC and Repsol. I wonder if even the Repsol bosses are bypassing Puig to some extent as they have been fed a relative "dud" for quite a few years now. A difficult thing for them to take after Doohan won and won and won for them. Perhaps even Repsol want back to the "glory days" even at the cost of a Spanish rider. The telling thing with this is that Dovi has been somewhat rejected by Repsol.

I dont think HRC necessarily want Dani to leave, but what they want is to try something else because the current system has delivered zero titles. If Stoner lands and is competitive than at least they won't feel they NEED repsol, Puig and Dani. It will make HRC stronger on the whole, even if Dani, Puig and Repsol stay.

Sometime in 2011 BUT if he hits the dreaded front end issues then he`s in a world of .... as we saw at Ducati.

will stoner use the same chassis as pedro ?

if he's tall enough to comfortably ride the thing i'd expect stoner to win the title if he manages to stay on the bike .

i'd always rate stoner as the fastest rider in motogp today and IF he has the best bike and stops crashing every other race we'll see him performing just as good as pedro/lorenzo/rossi, if not better

I voted 1st race.As said,he's got a pretty good record on that track no matter what bike.

After a few races into the season i think he might start winning on other tracks and be the no1 in the team.

I'm guessing the bike will suit him after a few races.Maybe Honda is aiming for a bike similar to the 2007 Ducati.Rocket engine but needs a sensitive right hand and well tuned electronics.

I think, now that Honda has seen this season how reliable the engine it self seems to be,they might be able to get a really powerful engine that lasts.Chassis,i have no idea,Honda seems to make an entirely new bike every year, but i think he and his team will make it work.
