Simon Patterson reports Lin Jarvis will at the press conference next Thursday, but no Vale. Wonder what's up.

MotoGP News - Yamaha: Each day reduces chance of Lorenzo staying

Lin Jarvis says with each day Jorge Lorenzo doesn't confirm his plans for 2017 the chances of him re-signing for Yamaha reduce.

The Yamaha racing managing director believes the longer Lorenzo takes to make a decision on staying with the Japanese manufacturer or moving to Ducati only adds weight to the theory he will leave for the Italian brand at the end of the season.

On the eve of the season opener in Qatar, Yamaha confirmed both Valentino Rossi and Lorenzo received a new two-year contract offer at the same time. Rossi signed immediately, but the reigning MotoGP is yet to make up his mind.

It is understood Ducati, who have seen several attempts to attract Lorenzo from Yamaha in the past fail, have tabled an offer which the Spanish rider is giving seriously contemplation alongside the Yamaha deal.

Speaking to Speedweek.com, Jarvis has confirmed negotiations haven't been delayed by Lorenzo asking for more money and feels with each day passing since the offer was tabled the chances of him re-signing fall.

“I would say every day that passes since we offered Jorge the new contract reduces our prospects,” Jarvis told Speedweek. “With each additional day of the bidding which he does not decide to accept our offer it reduces our chances with Jorge to stay. And there have already been many days gone.”

Jarvis confirmed in Qatar Lorenzo has a deadline to accept the Yamaha offer, but did not outline when it is - although a decision could come before the next round in Jerez.

Maverick Vinales is favourite to replace Lorenzo, but has an 'option' in his contract to continue at Suzuki. It is unclear at present whether Vinales controls this option or Suzuki.

I'm sure that session on Thursday will be more about damage control than anything. Incredible how obtuse Lin Jarvis has become about the whole situation. This is all Yamaha's creation.

This is Jarvis' fault. Lorenzo asked to be signed before the season started as a sign that he was number 1 at Yamaha. Pretty simple, yet Yamaha, to keep from hurting Rossi's feelings and being 'fair', offered both riders at the same time and like Jumkie said, Rossi signed it before it could finish printing out of spite. Is it petty, you bet, but Jarvis knew going in how petty his riders are and should have held Rossi's contract and offered Lorenzo first rights to sign. Winning Yamaha's last 3 titles gave him that right in my opinion.

Krop saying again Lorenzo to Ducati a done deal, Jarvis will announce at Jerez and Lorenzo will not be allowed to speak about it at press conference . Thats very strange. Im guessing he is afraid Lorenzo will say why he is leaving, like its a big secret that his teammate is an insufferable manipulating prick.

Well, if Lorenzo stated Rossi is an insufferable manipulating prick that would bring 'the sport' into disrepute, and that is against the rulebook. Lin Jarvis is just helping Lorenzo from violating the law.

Does this mean Lorenzo can kiss his chance of winning the title this year goodbye? Will Yamaha still support him knowing he is leaving?

What it means is that there's going to be a complete information lockdown on Lorenzo's side of the garage, where he is not going to be told very much...only the bare minimum so as to prevent him from bringing additional knowledge to Ducati.

Second, he will be relegated to #2 status, which means VR gets all new equipment/parts over JL, if he gets any for that matter. The possibility exists where you see almost a Rossi/Gibernau 2003 scenario of preferential treatment to Rossi again. While once I wouldn't have thought Yamaha would cut their throat with regards to the constructor's title, I'm no longer sure about this. I suspect in spite of whatever professionalism is claimed in the press, the animosity will be quite high in the garage. Lorenzo has to know this is coming however, so he may have just resigned himself to doing the best he can in spite of the disadvantages he will find himself at. Who knows, he may still trounce Rossi in the rest of the season.

From here on out, the championship will be Marc Marquez's to lose. Rossi right now hasn't looked as strong in race trim as he did in 2015, and as the grind continues, it's going to get harder. Whatever delusions he has of being #1 for the rest of this season in the team, thus winning the title may be misplaced, if as JKD points out, he experiences a Peyton Manning-esque decline.

You have to sort of admire Yamaha's willingness to torpedo themselves, just to gain the approval of one of their riders.

If Lorenzo is somehow "prevented" from winning, hopefully Marquez blows Rossi out of the water. Don't want to see the Italian drama queen even has another chance to even sniff at a title this season. The boppers must be cheering right now knowing Lorenzo is leaving.

To be fair, Rossi was the factory rider, Sete didn't have a contract with HRC - Kato did, so Gibernau inherited the full spec bike and the subsequent support destined for Daijiro was initially forthcoming. It was only when rumours started to emerge of Vale's defection to Yamaha and realisation of the catastrophic P/R disaster that would ensue from such a coup that some maintain the resources to Gresini abruptly faded, purportedly in a bid to sway Rossi's decision.

And that's the thing. With his customary prevarication, Valentino cunningly demurred on re signing his contract - in fairness while he appraised the feasibility of the move to Yamaha and ratified his terms. His mind was made up by Motegi, but it had been [intentionally?] the worst kept secret in the paddock. Had he have announced his intention earlier like Lorenzo all but has, Jorge would not have been the second Spanish World Champion in the top class of Grand Prix motorcycle racing - that honour would have gone to Sete Gibernau.
Despite knowing that he was leaving, Rossi waited until the end of the season before he made it official ensuring continued support and to the detriment of Gibernau who after some impressive rides including two last lap victories over Rossi, failed to win a race after Sachsenring. Ask Fausto Gresini why.

You silly twits with the Rossi hate. Pathetic. Anyway, what you fail to see is how Yamaha will benefit from this. Whore-gay is no spring chicken, nearing 30. Vinales, if he does go to Yamaha, is the future. Who knows for sure, but on the Yamaha, I think Vinales will be able to challenge Marc. We shall see.

And for those of you who hate Vale, how in the world can you like Jorge?? He whines like a little school girl every time a dark cloud passes over the circuit.

He complains about his "bad luck" when the weather doesn't favor him. Sorry boys, this is racing. If you can't ride in the wet, go play ping-pong.

They will insure him a Ben Spies type season. I always see jarvis as a ...... bag. Remember the whole Ben controversy? He jarvis did the same gag order. Jorge will have as much DNF this year to match his 1st year.

Because Lorenzo is not a two-faced prick.

I hope Vinales can challenge Marc because that means Vinales will blow Rossi away. Rossi, beaten by Marc and his own teammate, even better.

And Rossi didn't whine like a school girl? What did he say at Sepang 2015 then? And then proceed to kick Marc off the bike? Sorry boys, if you have to resort to dirty trick to "beat" the faster guy, you should go play ping pong.

Intresting way to look at this. Flossi had this all planed ahead. Once he saw from the post season test that Honda was having trouble. Then Jorge announce how soon he would like to sign his yamaha contract. Flossi put his deception plan into action. He made sure to get & sign his contract ahead of Jorge, knowing this would get under Jorge skin. As we now see it has worked to perfection. This is how he get the#1status ahead of Jorge, & increase his chance of #10. But he was not banking on Honda & Marc turning a conrner so soon. Proof on that is, him accusing Marc of sand bagging about the problems of the RCV.

Bottom line, rossi is a true scum bag....

I remember the Spies situation. Yamaha did all that to Ben to vacate a seat for Rossi after he fell flat on his face at Ducati.

Depends on where Rossi is in points when the new parts start funneling through. If things go to form, Rossi may just be out of the championship hunt in the next 3-4 races. If thats the case, i wouldnt be surprised if Yamaha offers support to Lorenzo if he is still close.

Just because he'll leaving yamaha next season, he'll not get the full support for this season? ridiculous.
I imagine if Lorenzo get his another titles this season, knowing the day later he would be ride for ducati that would be an ironic in yamaha's side. If Lorenzo finish the season with higher points than VR, that would be ironics too for yamaha.

so technically, yamaha prevent to look ironic? this give VR had more influence to beg yamaha to sandbagging Lorenzo then.

then now the title chase down to MM and VR. Dani if you willing to add. I'll give my 100% support to Honda then, and ducati if they capable to finish in front the yamahas.

What is the rational reason exactly, not supporting a rider in his last season with the same manufacture? why?
Trade secrets. You ever notice how they guard their machines from the public? Lorenzo is now the enemy.

Kindly refrain from the personal insults please. Just because posters don't share your love for Rossi, it doesn't give you the right or reason to throw insults around. You sound just like your hero, lashing out as anyone not supporting his cause.
As for the childish name you called Lorenzo, be very careful. For one, nobody likes a homophobic and his views and two, if anyone is likely to be "batting for the other side", it's almost definitely Valentino, not that it should make any difference to a normal person. These guys are employed for their racing skills and nothing else.
Try and keep your school ground insults in check please...
