At that time I would certainly have been the first to agree with you - tho many have counter-pointed that

Top speed or trap speed does not win races

and

The Yamaha was more tractable overall and kinder to tires.

Both of which to a degree negated some of Honda's advantage. As I recall, the seamless gearbox was Honda's most significant performance edge.
The Yamaha camp were constantly commenting on it.

The seamless box on the Honda gave it a massive edge on braking, that coupled with top speed made it more potent than the Yamaha. It only lost that edge in 2015 when HRC changed the chassis, which prompted lots of Marquez crashes. He returned to his 2014 frame and turned it around. It's different this year with Michelin however. This year could be close!

I don't think Honda is going to replace Dani for at least another season or two. As things stand, you really need a veteran rider next to MM who can help with the development of the RCV, and also more importantly understands that he is there to be a supporting figure to MM where his goal is to help bag enough points to help deliver the constructor's championship to Honda.

I don't see them pairing MM with a fresh out of Moto3 or Moto2 rider because of MM's age. The issue is who on the grid meets that veteran status and will accept being a supporting figure outside of Pedrosa? The pickings are really slim right now. If he weren't such a crash prone ......, Cuntslow might actually have fit this bill.

They certainly wont replace Pedrosa just for the sake of replacing him with another veteran rider to be Marquez's mule, they have the ultimate mule as it stands. If that is their mindset, Dani could be safe for a while.

Maybe Maverick is leery of joining Rossi in the Yamaha team as everyone knows his influence and bad treatment of team mates who challenge him. They all know why Lorenzo is considering leaving.
At least with Marquez he'd get fairly treated even if he's a much younger and faster no1 rider than Rossi.

I'd bet my left bollock that Cuntslow actually thinks he does fit the bill, there'd be a whole new line of excuses when he was demolishing the Repsol every race weekend.

I really don't see why he should be so anxious to leave Suzuki. The bike seems to be getting better all of the time.

If I was a young fast rider I would be very cautious about being Rossis team mate.

If I was to start a GP fantasy team Cal would be my top rider. Noone scores more fantasy podiums then him

I did notice Kropo seems to think Rins is going to head to Repsol Honda.

Anyone else think this is likely?

I have a hard time seeing Honda upsetting the apple cart...if Rins is in GP next year I think it'll be on the LCR in place of Cuntslow.

Viñalez has walked out on a contract before, no reason to do it again in the unlikely event he gets on the podium (assuming the contract stipulation). Viñalez just changed agent, some lawyer bloke named Sanchez. So he may be fixing to give Suzuki a dirty Sanchez.

Content Warning: Look ....... (.)(.)

As we discussed yesterday, Vinales or Rins. Its time for Honda to make a move. Not sure its likely, but its being bounced around.

The BQR debacle? Many reneged promises from Richard Jove as I recall - and that knob Cortese was not unusually at the centre of the chaos. He did come back again and ride at Phillip Island though. Perhaps Paris Hilton offered him a ........ out back?

He also pissed off Sito by switching to the top class after only a year in Moto2 which wasn't the plan. What is clear is that Viñalez doesn't rely upon the security of familiar faces rather, tight select personnel and doesn't build a protective empire of sycophants around him like some others. He simply wants the best package available and is possibly the most ambitious rider in the paddock imo.

To me this is an example of a rider earning factory machinery on merit. He will evaluate the options very carefully and if he is not asphyxiated or stifled by the toxic yellow miasma of the Yamaha garage, the prospect of inheriting Lorenzo's M1 presents the most exciting signings in years.

I haven't decide what I think of this kid, a lot of that goes back to his decisions you just mentioned. I like the way you described it. It makes it easier to start liking him more. All but the Paris Hilton ........, who hasn't gotten a ........ from Paris? That team was a joke.

I agree and don't. A rider who is MM's size and weight with a riding style closer to Mark's would generate data more relevant to development of his bike. Right now - I think they're on two very different paths in that regard.

Simon Patterson reports Lin Jarvis will at the press conference next Thursday, but no Vale. Wonder what's up.
