Well I find it funny .... that this race fit the criteria so many declare befitting of a boring race .... and yet
<

Its shaping up to be a good year though .... there will be so much work being put into not getting a single DNF in that top 4 now.

Pedrosa is looking the goods

Lorenzo .... amazing to recover so many points

Rossi ..... I think this was his first good selection of Bridgestone tyres .... he was strong till the end as Stoner was last year

Stoner ...... I still don't think they are back to their winning ways but meh he's vaguely still in touch.

Most people find races where the rider they support isnt winning boaring! Lucky im not like that supporting Elias

Good race. Wow, they were flying down that straight! Glad to see Rossi get a win, well deserved. That and 3 Ducs back in the top 8 and a Bridgstone/Mich split in the top 8 puts some more excitement into the season. But I do miss seeing a race decided on the last lap ala Rossi-Biaggi and Rossi- Gibernau. Was good to see Rossi and Pedro congratulating each other before going up to the podium.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (J4rn0 @ May 4 2008, 11:35 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Max speeds were much higher in the race today. I think it may have been due to a stronger tail wind. This seems to have surprised some teams, who apparently did not adjust the 6th speed ratio accordingly - both Pedrosa and Capirossi declared their engines were revving too high in the long straight.

There are two other factors for that top speed as well: Temperature and humidity. It was colder and it was very humid, both help in the power department, but even so I find it a bit amatureish to go into that trap.

You might not be saying that next season I'm afraid

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Tom @ May 4 2008, 01:38 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Excellent race, same story as last year really. Dani did all that was possible but wasn't quick enough to force a mistake from the Doctor, who did everything right. Lorenzo's hero points double, Hayden disappoints again.

Nicky didn't disappoint. This outcome was obvious from the start. Early on Michelin had everyone running medium rear and hard front.

Nearly everyone on the grid has a steering bias for the front or the rear, I think Stoner and Rossi are really the only people who can use both. Michelin running a harder front compound means rear-steer riders like Nicky and Colin were going to fall apart b/c the front end pushes all over the track. How many times did Colin run wide today?
<

I really expected Dovi to finish in front of Nicky, but somehow Dovi fell apart at the end.

Congrats to Stoner. When I heard that B-stone were running a medium rear I was surprised he didn't have any moments like Jerez. I think he was being modest in the press conference. If Duc ran a hard rear I think he would have been able to challenge for the win.

Melandri? How is Nicky going to get that ride if Melandri suddenly starts breaking the top 5 every week?
<
I'm not optimistic for either of them, but watching this race has convinced me that Nicky needs to be on that bike.

+1 Nicky ended up about exactly where I thought that he would. He did fall back in the race and I thought that he was going to be out of the top ten but he somehow foudn a way to pull it back together and take 6th. Considering the situation I think this is an okay result for him.

Heads should roll in the Suzuki camp for the DNF of CV. It is inexcusable and maybe even Denning should get the boot. I can't remember when such a low level mistake was made. Twice in one year a poorly prepared bike has caused a DNF. Capirossi was making errors also. What

You are more sanguine about stoner than I am. I think after jerez and estoril where they went too radical, quite possibly at stoner's instigation, they have now gone too conservative particularly where stoner is concerned. I think if the bike is set-up and ridden conventionally stoner and melandri and perhaps elias can contend for 4th to 6th but not for wins and probably not even the podium. I do agree with you that stoner needs the hard tyres; I can't remember him winning a dry race on the softer tyres except qatar this year where they had tested extensively the week before and had the opportunity to tailor-make a tyre.

Plaudits to rossi +/- burgess for setting up the softer bridgestones and the yamaha to work together; ironically he has not got to use the hard tyre which he said was his reason for changing in a race yet.

Nicky still never gives up, does he? Unfortunately what he needs to do to make a honda 800 go fast does not appear to be sustainable over race distance.

I think that I can count how many passes were made and shown on the Speed coverage on one hand. They also only showed a 2 second clip of Capi gong off where I <u>HEARD</u> THAT IT HAPPENED TO OTHER RIDERS Either it was crap coverage or it was a crap race or both
<
IMO it was a crap race despite the coverage. And it was definitely crap coverage. I used to get excited over races. I guess I can look on the bright side and think that these two weeks till the next race will be much easier to swallow. I am really glad shanghai is out of the lineup.

I was shocked how fast Rossi and Pedrosa pulled away from the pack... and still had the pace at the end.

DNF's this year will be crucial, I don't think anyone can afford them this year. So many riders capable of taking the WC a DNF will put a rider out of top 5 instantly. SO yeah shouldn't have happened.

We were in the top row of the main grandstand, despite the rain and wind we had a stellar view of the track.

Rossi and Pedro just pulled away until the last couple of laps when Rossi put the hammer down. Stoner looked very very ordinary today, but other good rides was from Whorhay, Marco and Elias.

JT went backwards to 12th and stayed there throughout, the Kwackers were just a pile of crap IMO.

Great day out though.

Coverage was not that good. Quite few offs and passes were missed by TV judging from the commentating on UK Eurosport.
The race itself wasn't bad. The 250s were good too. Shanghai may get alot of crap but the races we had there over the past few years have been pretty good.

We were at the other side grandstand, too bad there were not many spectators(24,000 plus only) for China population of close to 2 billion..maybe bcoz of olympic thing...Rossi was spectacular, but Pedrobot couldn't do anything..probably lack of Top speed or something else..lonely ride for stoner after edward run off track..good to see midpack fighting for 4th spot..see ya in Lemans,France in two weeks times..

Well...to all you guys...especially Rossi haters..
That's VALENTINO ROSSI somebody ever doubt...
When everything's working, who can deny him ???
His is name is VALENTINO ROSSI,and he wants to win.

That was a vintage Rossi ride, putting in the fastest lap near the end when the tyres are most worn. Hopefully they've found tyres and a set up to suit him and the bike so we can see more of that instead of fading away half way through.
