It is Saturday early morning here, but in a few hours it will be Sunday in Sepang and the first event of 2020 MotoGP is about to begin.
Normally this shakedown test does not grab much attention, this time it is different. I believe everybody wants to see how well Lorenzo and Alex Marquez will do? Lorenzo is fully healed and should not have any adaptation issues with Yamaha, right? Alex needs to show what his speed is going to be, time is running out and he is sitting on a championship winning bike after all. And KTM, two rookies and revised bike, I'm curious ...

Oh so exciting. Looking forward to finding out! Feels like it’s been so long...

Didnt realize Lorenzo was already inked for this test. Would not be surprised at all if he puts down the fastest lap among all these riders.

Pol and Aleix are at this test? Do KTM and Aprilia have extra allowances?

Day 1. Many riders did not have their times published and Lorenzo didn't get on track at all.
From published times Pedrosa and Pirro were fastest. Alex was 0.7 seconds slower. Does not look very promising for him, if you ask me.
When Lorenzo gets on track and Espargaro does a timed lap the picture should be clearer.

Day 2.
Not much happened. Lorenzo had his picture taken. No timed lap. Out of gas? Flat tire? Dead battery? (These are the reasons which can stop my Wife.)
Pedrosa got under 2 minutes, this is more like it. Pol was 0.1 seconds slower. Was he even out there to set a fast time? This is testing after all, who knows what they are testing there ...
Alex got faster! Only 0.4 seconds slower than DP. Good. Faster he goes, better for show.

Day 3.
Lorenzo, a second slower than Pol, one tenth slower than his qualifying time last time here with Honda. Indeed, the track conditions were not the same and he apparently didn't push hard. He will carry on, weekend is coming up with all racers on the track.
Pol was fastest, it seems 2020 KTM is a bit faster than 2019 bike. Brother Aleix did a good time on Aprilia, too.
There will be much more engine noise over the weekend. :)

Now they tell Lorenzo will ride only one day, 9th. I could do one better myself, I could fly to Sepang and not ride at all!

Assuming his injuries were serious enough to force him into retiring from the thing he was so madly passionate about, I don't see that Lorenzo was ever going to be sufficiently healed as to be able to ride at kind of pace required to suss out handling issues that only reveal themselves near the absolute limits required to be competitive against the bigger factories. I haven't had high expectations.

I think it is actually down to the resources Yamaha has, there is some sort of tire limit, methinks. They have their program for testing and Lorenzo as a surprise newcomer is not part of it, yet. Lorenzo is fully healed, physically, that is.

I dont think it was injuries that forced him into retirement... he could not ride the Honda, thats what forced him out.

It is becoming more and more obvious.

must suck real bad for his self esteem.

Go Jorge anyway!!!

I don't think Marquez could ride a bike designed and setup for Lorenzo, so Lorenzo shouldn't feel too bad he couldn't ride the Marquez Repsol.

I don't think so. Marc seems to be Stoner-like talent, he will ride anything and exploit its strengths.

He certainly couldn't ride the Honda as well as Marquez; that aside, he rode it much worse than younger riders with far less experience, which I think bares out his claim of inability due to injury. I don't speculate that he would have ever gelled with the Honda, but I do think he'd have had better results riding uninjured. I want to feel bad for him, but given his ...... behavior at Ducati, he can only blame the whole fiasco on himself.
