Schwantz comments on MM/VR

According to Kevin Schwantz, there is a simple answer to the quandary over Marc Marquez’s actions at the recent Rio Grand Prix. In the race (won by Cal Crutchlow) Marc Marquez was penalized for his actions in the Rio Grand Prix which saw Valentino Rossi on the ground after Marquez made his pass.

“As a rider you can’t knock someone down just because you’re four seconds a lap faster than they are. It’s really basic. I think that it’s still something that they teach in every new rider school for racers: that it is the responsibility of the rider making the pass to insure that the pass is safe and clean.”

Reigning world champion Marquez has been the focus of global criticism because of the incident with Rossi. Marquez attempted to apologize to Rossi after the incident but was re-buffed.

And how to move forward?

“He doesn’t get another ‘again’. I think that Dorna should sit him (Marquez) down and explain it to him in the frankest terms they can–that if he initiates contact with another rider, in a race, in practice, and there is contact, then he’s done for the season.”

I respect Schwanz and loved watching him race. In this case I think he is wrong.

The onboard from MM’s bike shows contact on Marquez’s bike somewhere behind the camera. VR simply ran into him halfway through the corner.

You can’t run wide and expect somebody closing at a faster pace to not occupy the vacant real estate.

If you're the lead rider, you can take any line through the corner you please, it's still the passing rider's responsibility to safely execute the pass. It's strongly presumed unless the lead rider has made an obvious error, that they're going to cut back to the apex.

What's most fascinating about the fallout of Argentina, is that this is what should have been the reaction of media, ex-racers, paddock, and spectators against Rossi deliberately attacking Marc at Sepang. There should have been no mincing of words by ex-racers, reporters, officials, paddock, and fans, Rossi should be sat down, scolded like a child, on probation for any contact and immediately disqualified. His reputation should have been dragged through the mud for his wonton attack of a rival. The reaction that should have been is the one exactly playing out right now against Marc, for an unintentional act!

The overwhelming theme is that those piling on are emboldened, if not in competition to out do themselves, the result is everyone unrestrained to lash out and chastise Marc in a condescending way with a definite and distinguishable contrast that none of these cowards had the balls to chastise Rossi in so much of a fraction of the manner. None.

Sure, and he immediately apologized by waving, and tried to formally apologize in person. The overwhelming adverse bleak reaction by grandstanding media, ex-racers, fans, etc. doesn’t fit the crime. Otherwise we'd have this outrage all the time, why is this so exceptional? Will you admit it's a disconnected overreaction precisely because it involved Rossi? Otherwise, the reaction is entirely disproportionate, lopsided, skewed.

The incident with Rossi was 1 of 4, that's why there is much ado. People here are trying their best to relate it to Rossi only in an attempt to confuse what is a very clear issue.

Maybe I am mistaken, but I thought Marc said the main cause of the incident with Vale was a wet patch causing Marc to have to come off the front brake, hence the reason for the approach speed. I have watched it through a few times and, for want of a better expression, this holds water for me. You can see it happen. It was just a racing incident.
The other instances were just racing incidents also. If you bring those in then Petrux and Zarco need hauling in too.

Personally, looking at it this way, Rossi deliberately went wide in the knowledge that Marc being Marc would jump at the hole left on the inside in the hope he would then be able to screw Marc's season up to be as .... as the one he's enjoying now (Rossi's)

That was Rossi's decision, he tried to shut a door that was like a cavern entrypoint.
IMO it is Rossi's fault, pure and simple.

Vr didn’t get punted. He chose not to stand the bike up when Marc came by. Instead he leaned back in, with his front wheel nowhere near past Marc’s bike. He punted himself.

One video angle I saw of him with Asparagus looked like he purposely put his fairing under the Aprillia tail section and 'stood him up'.

From my understanding of bike racing that's the international signal for 'Get The .... Outaa My Way, Backmarker'

How do you explain rossis line change then?

rossi goes wide Marc. Goes in ....... then ......

Marc attracts rossi to his bike?

There was a lot happened between Marquez catching rossi and rossi coming of ..... try breaking it down in segments. Though I suspect it wont fit the outcome you want.

How do you explain 93 using 46 as a brake? Do you know what outcome I want lol.

Religion? Rossi must be Moses. As usual, boppers focus on the minute details, never the big picture. Who was the dude that actually asked God what we all wanted to know, where’s the ....... proof dammit? And He responded, bout time, now burn (Bush).

It’s not Rossi’s fault that Marquez is dangerous you say? Brilliant. We all know what the problem is here, what we need is the solution. Hey I got a great idea, let’s have a licence points system. The riders 10 commandments will apply. Too many bad moves, license disqualified. Fantastic, why not, clean up the sport. Not going to happen.

Tune in for the next episode of death race, were they will activate the weapons to the machines. I can hardly wait. This is entertainment folks!

Easily explained ..... rossi changed line into Marc. ( see the video. Its undeniable ). Then ask yourself why you have a need to not see reality .

I saw that he blamed the track .....

I put it to you that you can watch the video .... post race ( not in the heat of the moment, and with the yellow fog lifted ) ... and in a considered manner and decide for yourself.
