Sachsenring predictions, practice, quali

Neil Spalding has commented that the 800cc is a completely different fitment within the chassis than the 1000cc. Also the 2004 Yamaha was a complete pig of a bike to ride but Rossi won a championship on it, so how does he only like a bike which is refined and easy to ride?

the yamaha has always been one of the most sweet handling bikes.period.

horsepower isn't everything

especially the 04 m1 is an odd example ,as the m1 never has been revolutionized more than between 2003 and 2004 , making it a machine that at least was in the same league as the honda

edit : also neil spalding is a total ..... who thinks he understands motorcycle racing better than its participants.hence his aptitude as ninos signature quote

Well Spalding is wrong because Ducati have said it is 100% GP12 with the GP12 engine destroked. It is not the 800cc engine and the engine does not fit in the chassis the chassis bolts to each end of the engine.

If you're watching the moto 2 qualy even Moody commented that the Yamaha was a difficult bike to ride and that only Rossi could ride the 990, it only got more refined in the later 800cc years.

Also, one of the fellow riders who followed Rossi at one of the 2004 races said it was a pig and he couldn't understand how he was riding it so quickly.

If that's the case then why are they constantly talking about the fact that because it's a 800cc the weight transfer, feel etc is different if it's only been destroked??

Yeah because you know more than Neil Spalding

No but the Ducati team do. It is not my opinion, the Ducati team press release stated that the GP11.1 is the GP12 with a destroked GP12 engine. Not sure why you don't understand that. The 800 engine DOES NOT fit in the GP12 chassis. Otherwise Hayden would be using it. Hayden had to wait because he has already used 4 engines and those engines don't fit. Only the GP12 engine fits so they destroked it so Rossi could use the new chassis.

No conspiracy as EVERYONE knows it and you sound silly because you are arguing that we are all wrong.

I honestly think Stoner is a setup genius...

His ability to change a parameter on a bike then go out put in three warp speed laps and understand the changes is unique and gives him a competitive advantage over the rest of the field IMHO....this must have certainly helped him in setting fast lap times on the Duc which is by all accounts a very fickle beast with regards to changing or fine tuning setup...it also explains his short run stints - rather than being lazy as some have suggested he was able to understand the changes made very quickly and come in and adjust or fine tune the bike to extract its maximum potential.

Again this weekend he has found something when the heat was on....amazing talent.

nope.

to say rossis 04 m1 was a far inferior bike to the rc211 of gibernau/max is just wrong.sorry but i won't transform the sachsenring thread into another debate about how rossi can ride anything when its obvious he cant

AT the end of the day every person who rides the Ducati, accept Stoner who rode it like he was going to crash every corner, has major trouble with it. It's a dog, has always been a dog so I for one wouldn't be sad to see them leave the sport.

Yeah, that would be great. 6 bikes off the grid is the death of Moto GP. Rossi made his bed last year & now he must lie in it. Ducati have pulled all the stops for Rossi, huge pay cheque, the best crew in the game, multiple updates on the GP11 & even a completely new & redesigned GP11.1. Rossi should be the lead Ducati, instead he is last, not just last Ducati, last in qualifying (Guintoli doesn't count as he is a stand in). I think it's time for Rossi & Ducati to start telling the truth to the fans, this spin just doesn't cut it anymore.

Quali

Stoner-great lap, very committed after his off on Friday.

Pedro, Jorge & Hairball-all very close & consistant pace

Could be a real good race if Stoner misses the start & a couple get ahead of him.

Toby and Jules made mention of this fact on the Eurosport broadcast today explicitly stating that they could not understand why the difference between the GP12 and GP11.1 incarnations would result in such a different feeling in the 2 bikes considering the fact that the 800cc version was a DESTROKED VERSION OF THE SAME ENGINE

Get your facts straight Nomad before you start sprouting nonsense.

And the Yamaha M1 04 was far from a pig....same as the 2011 M1 is far from a pig.

I am not so sure there is a difference in feel as I am sure there is an element of PR in the talk about the full engined GP12. Obviously this is just opinion as I haven't ridden either bikes but Rossi did say that the full GP12 is slower than the 800 Honda and Yamaha and is not adequate for next year.

Looks like Stoner found the set up towards the end. Then blew them away with the soft tyre.

Rossi beats the stand in rider only. What a disaster. Looks to me that the Ducati has broken him as that result from a 9x WC can not be blamed purely on the bike. He was beaten by 4 other Ducatis. Wonder if Ducati still have Melandri's shrink's number? Would not be surprised to hear about the shoulder again.

Who will be surprised when Rossi announces his quest to be released from Ducati based

on his developing an allergy to Red Dye #40?

If he did quit, after you finished creaming yourself you'd probably spend the whole season talking about him anyway
<
.

I wouldn't be sad for him. He has reaped what he now sows. He burnt the Honda bridge and then he burnt the Yamaha bridge. He thought he was bigger than the sport. We now see he is not as the sport is still going. The competition is intense and exciting at the front and is no worse for not having Rossi in it. I've said it before, MotoGP has moved on and Rossi is becoming less relevant.

I agree with most of this, except the point about him being less relevent. Rossi is creating more press & debate now than he has any time in his whole career. He still dominates the headlines, but probably not for the reasons he would like to.
