Rossi vs. Stoner (not a troll thread, promise...)

Dani, as a Rossi fan also, I'd love for this theory to be true, lol. Is there actually any evidence of it floating around?

Why not base the comparison on first 5 years in the class for each rider? Only head to head is used here because those figures look better to Rossiphobics

Why not? Can you possibly think of a better way to compare one riders performance against anothers , than actually comparing riders that compete on the same track, at the same time, on the same machine. Hell, if thats the way you want to do it, lets use Stoners numbers when he was riding mini bikes and winning 15 20 races per weekend

I would suggest reading this, it has all the answers to your questions

From that article.
The other riders are just as keen on the tires with edge grip as Lorenzo is, but are not able to exploit them to the extent that Lorenzo can.

So just as people say Rossi had a tyre advantage, maybe so but so has Jorge had one too. Fact is there is no conspiracy in either case.

Ha.

Edge-treated tires were about fixing a feel issue that a number of riders were having.

Rossi's tires were about preventing the field from ever being competitive with him.

Big difference.

Stoner's not fit to wipe Doohans visor.

Even I, as an intense Doohan fan, place Stoner above the skills of Doohan. To me its all about what they are doing on the bike.

From the other riders both Doohan and Stoner were often described as "in their own race" or on another level.
Stoner though inspired such descriptions as "in another league", thence "from another planet", leading to the description of "alien".

Both had an advantage, no difference.

Same tire for everyone, no comparison to a special tire made just for you.

Overnight specials weren't only for Rossi either but they suited him, which is why I made the point about the edge treated tyres, different era same result.

Yeah but Rossi wasn't the only receiving special tires. The claim is that the tires were geared more towards Rossi's riding style, and apparently there are some riders who backed those claims, including his own teammate. However, I'm still waiting for proof positive on this issue.

Like the edge treated tyres weren't only made for 99 but they suited his riding style more than anyone else's, no conspiracy then and none now!

You will never get proof positive as that would be a corporate secret within Michelin.

The nearest you will get is that which has been espoused and is purely anecdotal or speculation as there is no way that Michelin will ever release data pursuant to their tyre compounds as that may give a competitive advantage to a competing tyre manufacturer.

Big difference Dani.

I can walk into a shop and buy a set of golf clubs.

I then go to my local course and play, I shoot 95.

I then loan my clubs to a professional (a mate) and he shoots 71 on the same course.

Same items, but one is able to use them, the other is not

In the days of yore, the clubs were designed for my professional mate so I just had to make do, in the days of today they are made for all and we all have to make do

If they used track data from Lorenzo's camp the day before the race, you may just have something, but thats not what happened, so try again. The article clearly states the tires and compounds and what tracks they would be used were decided well before the season.

Article also clearly states many of the riders preferred the heat treated edge while lots of riders are on record saying they can't ride on Rossis tyres. Massive difference.

Lots of riders? I thought it was maybe two. Can you please list these "lots" of riders?

In 2007 Edwards, Hayden and Pedrosa had all said they couldn't ride on Rossis tyres that's 3 of his main title rivals. There is more, Edwards also said no one could ride on Rossis tyres.
