Would be cool to see what he could do on that bike though. He would be hungry and have no excuses not to perform other than being a bit rusty.

Had no idea you're a JT guy! I met him in the paddock last year, seemed like a great guy and I think his time in GP was short and frankly ugly. That's no way for anyone of his pedigree to go out! Second chances are always nice to see. Few people get them and even fewer capitalize on them but we can always hope. I think last years Tech 3 bike was underpowered and somewhat neglected. We'll see. Neither of those guys (Tech 3) are setting the series on fire this year either. Even the "second coming" is showing little of the promise so many thought.......

The hate for Spies is strong in this post......no mention of his WSBK title for the only year he was in the series. You are ozing hate.......

i noticed my ommition on that fact when it was way to late to edit it , oops i will put it right now. Spies did infact win the title in the series where old motogp riders go to retire

I'd like to see Cal Crutchlow on a Yamaha in GP. However, I believe Rossi will probably be out for quite some time, so I seriously doubt Meregalli is going to let Cal (or JT for that matter) run off and play in GP. But who knows maybe they will divide up the Fiat rides amongst a few different riders? They could give a few weekends to Cal, few to Takahashi, few to Colin, etc.

Now that I think of it, Garry McCoy just the other day got free from his contract with FB Corse.

I would love to see garry on a yamaha again, but I suspect he would be quite a risk for valentino's engine supply.

and where the WSBK title holders move up to ride mid pack their entire careers.....

I think the real threat regarding the engine limits was the rivalry between Rossi and Lorenzo: that was an engine-eater. Without that kind of pressure, I see no problems. If Garry wastes an engine, they can simply make him race with an old one

I mentioned McCoy ages ago and would dearly love to see it myself.

As for the engine rules - does the count restart as it is a new rider or is it bike specific?

Bike specific. Remember at the end of last year when Kallio stepped in for Stoner and binned it a few times there was a concern about Stoner's engines.

Although to be fair some of this secured some pretty ..... rides in motogp.

VISORDOWN'S World Superbike insider has it on firm authority that James Toseland is the hot favourite to stand-in for injured Valentino Rossi in the Fiat Yamaha MotoGP squad.

It's believed Toseland, who has two years' MotoGP experience under his belt having ridden for Tech 3 Yamaha in 2008 and 2009, is the firm favourite to replace Rossi, following the Italian's leg-breaking crash at Mugello last weekend.

Our inside source says the former double World Superbike Champion is top of Yamaha MotoGP's list as he has a substantial amount of experience on Yamaha's M1 MotoGP racer, as well as significant miles under his belt on Bridgestone MotoGP tyres.

Reports in the media have linked Cal Crutchlow, Toseland's current World Superbike team-mate, to the vacant ride but Visordown's insider has said Yamaha are not willing to take a gamble on a rider with no MotoGP experience, despite Crutchlow's obvious talent.

It's believed Toseland's former MotoGP team-mate Colin Edwards is also on Yamaha's list, but our source has said Yamaha would prefer to put Toseland in Rossi's place.

why does it say that Yamaha won't take a gamble on Crutchlow when its a moot point because of the rookie rule?

It won't be JT, a little birdie told me. And the rookie rule doesn't prevent Spies (or any other rookie) from taking the ride. It's about entering for the championship, not for a few races.

Iit's not against the rules for wild card to ride factory bikes . Anybody who is standing in and not on a full time contract is a wild card.

The voice of reason returns to Powerslide. Thanx for the info.
