Somebody pointed out on another forum that the last couple of Yam contracts for Rossi have been signed on Friday & announced on Saturday, at Mugello. Whether that means anything I do not know.

So, will the podium of Spies change Yamaha Idea for replacing Rossi with him. what i heard from JB, didn't sound so.

He said he is now got used to his team and he goes to the tracks that he knows with a team that he knows and bringing him to Yam will only put extra pressure on him.

if Rossi goes to Ducati, Spies looks the best candidate to take his place.

Also Spies may just have "outplaced himself" for ride on Rossi' bike.

He got a third, how would it now look if he gets on Rossi's bike and is suddenly dicing for the lead
<

No I think Edwards looks the safer bet

I dont think ieder, but not because of his podium or that he may go to lead every race and embarrass Rossi (which i doubt seriously).

Just checking out Alex Briggs twitter, he said the replacement rider should be announced today.

Lorenzo-Spies is the Yamaha team for the post-Rossi era. If they put Spies on the factory Yamaha now, it will be because they know that Rossi actually will not race with them in 2011. No use promoting Ben for a few races and then demoting him again to Tech3, and then let him wait there.

I think Yamaha are not looking forward to another year of Rossi-Lorenzo civil war. In spite of what Jarvis keeps saying about the beauty of having two riders always head-to-head for the title, that's not a situation that was created intentionally and it's not such a desirable situation either.

I think the choice of Rossi's "replacement" will tell a lot about Rossi's own future with Yamaha.

Agree 100%

Rossi has declared from his hospital bed that he has a ride next year so he doesn't have to worry about coming back too soon to prove anything. You can read this in many ways but I think that he already knows whats going to happen next year as far as his future goes. Your right though, whomever takes his place next year could tell the general public where Yamaha might be going.

Yes - but he didn't specify whether it would be on two-wheels or four. I don't want to get all Lex-like on you,

but if Yamaha and Rossi were to have already cut a deal to let him go to Ferarri - they would withhold this

info and only release it at the most beneficial point in time. For the record... I don't think this is the case

but - as Devil's advocate....

Do you know anything about him? if he is good for motogp or not?

but good that they brought someone in, before Motogp start with less than 15.

I hope he is good enough to cover a bit of the empty space which is left by the absence of 2 and sometimes 3 aliens.

Could not and would not predict the rider - but I knew it wouldn't be either of the Texas Two. Yoshikawa is a safe

non-controversial choice. He'll work for peanuts. And who knows? They may just have him parade around

on a 2010 M1 look-alike to save themselves a few yen while fulfilling their contractual obligations to field

a second rider.

Lorenzo's preference for a Yamaha Teammate In 2011 (http://www.twowheelsblog.com/categoria/moto-gp)

"At a brief press conference at the MotoGP Assen, current number one in the rankings Jorge Lorenzo has stated that he’s not worried about next year. Commenting on the silly season contract rumours, Lorenzo has stated that he’s focusing on finishing number one this year. From his serious expression, we know that this is his big aim and there’s no reason at this stage to say he won’t achieve it.

We know Lorenzo was pleased with his performance last weekend and just how pleased has buoyed him for the coming races at Assen. He says: “I was not happy with Mugello but I was happy with Silverstone. Being at the front at the start creates less work for me on the track and we’ve been working to our best for each track.” He’s looking forward to racing at Assen, and we know he’s already said it’s one of his favourite tracks.

With other technical information discussed, including improving tyre choice at the MotoGP to make them less unpredictable and the move to extra testing for rider safety, the journalists present really want to know about the Fiat Yamaha team dynamic. Lorenzo says: “I’m not worried about next year. It really doesn’t concern me at all. I want to get to the end of this year and be in that number one spot at the end.”

On reaching the top spot in the rankings, Lorenzo is clearly proud about his achievement: “I’ve been given this opportunity and I intend to take advantage of it.” But the key question on the Rossi-Lorenzo relationship comes from an English journalist: “If you could choose between Valentino Rossi staying in Yamaha or going to another team, which would you choose?” And Lorenzo, with a slight smile simply answers: “Rossi with me.”

Brimming with confidence and with a point to prove. I love it

A 41-year-old test rider will replace nine-times world champion Valentino Rossi while the Italian recovers from a broken leg.

Wataru Yoshikawa will join Jorge Lorenzo in the Fiat Yamaha squad from the Barcelona round of the MotoGP World Championship next weekend.

The two-time Japanese superbike champion will substitute for Italian until he is fully recovered from the broken right leg he suffered in a practice crash at Mugello earlier this month.

It is expected that Yoshikawa will be with the Fiat Yamaha Team for at least three races, after which more should be known about Rossi's expected return date.

Rossi though may not be fit to return until the Brno round in the Czech Republic on August 15 at the earliest.

Yamaha had initially intended for Texan Colin Edwards to move to the factory team as cover for Rossi.

But that created a problem for the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team and who could come in and join Ben Spies for at least the Catalunya, Sachsenring and Laguna Seca races.

British rider Cal Crutchlow turned down the chance to move to Tech 3 while continuing his campaign in the World Superbike championship.

As a result, Yamaha opted to draft in Yoshikawa and Lin Jarvis, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing, said: "We have considered many different scenarios and candidate riders to fill the temporary vacant seat in the Fiat Yamaha Team.

"We had always planned to use a rider from within the Yamaha Motor & Tech 3 family but for each rider we considered who is in active competition, their move to the Fiat Yamaha Team would have created another problem for their own racing program or for the teams in which they are engaged.

"Finally, after a great deal of consideration, we have selected Wataru Yoshikawa, our Japanese YZR-M1 Test rider, to join us as our substitute rider. We provisionally plan for three races (Catalunya, Sachsenring and Laguna Seca) but we will adjust the plan accordingly when we know more about Valentino's expected date of return.

"The benefit of Wataru's presence in our team will be threefold. Firstly he brings with him a wealth of experience riding the YZR-M1. Secondly his presence allows us to fulfill our contractual obligations and to join the team's quest to accumulate points for the Team Championship.

"Thirdly he will gain valuable first hand MotoGP race experience in three challenging circuits which w ill surely be very useful to assist him and Yamaha with the future development of the YMR-M1. We look forward to welcoming Wataru into our team while we wait for Valentino's return to full fitness."

Yoshikawa added "I'm happy to have this chance to stand-in for Valentino while he is recovering and to compete in MotoGP again for the first time since 2002, when I raced at Motegi.

"Looking at the Fiat Yamaha Team results with the 2010 YZR-M1, I can see that the winter developments were correct and now I am looking forward to having the chance to gather some ‘real racing' data, which will be very helpful for the future development of the M1."

mcn yes but well see

I dont think that will be allowed. They are required to run a bike under the specs of GP and will be required to run one of their 6 allocated engines. Now he might be instructed to cruise around at the back of the pack at a pace that guarantee's no wrecks or undue engine wear.

I was being facetious (about the fake bike part). BTW - did anyone notice that this guy is 41 yrs old? I just happen to have a picture of Yoshikawa handy.

The experienced test rider will stand in for the Fiat Yamaha team from the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya until the World Champion is back to full fitness.

Yamaha Motor Racing have confirmed that their experienced test rider Wataru Yoshikawa will join the Fiat Yamaha team for the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya on July 4th, riding in place of injured World Champion Valentino Rossi until the Italian is back to full fitness following his broken leg.

Yoshikawa, a two-time Japanese superbike champion, will ride Rossi’s YZR-M1 for the Italian’s side of the Fiat Yamaha garage and is expected to be with the team for at least three races, after which more is expected to be known about Rossi’s expected return date.

Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing Srl, Lin Jarvis, said: “We have considered many different scenarios and candidate riders to fill the temporary vacant seat in the Fiat Yamaha Team. We had always planned to use a rider from within the Yamaha Motor & Tech 3 family but for each rider we considered who is in active competition, their move to the Fiat Yamaha Team would have created another problem for their own racing programme or for the teams in which they are engaged.”

We provisionally plan for three races (Catalunya, Sachsenring and Laguna Seca) but we will adjust the plan accordingly when we know more about Valentino's expected date of return.”

Yoshikawa, who has ridden as a wildcard once before in MotoGP when he finished 12th at Motegi in 2002, stated: "I'm happy to have this chance to stand in for Valentino while he is recovering and to compete in MotoGP again. Looking at the Fiat Yamaha Team results with the 2010 YZR-M1, I can see that the winter developments were correct and now I am looking forward to having the chance to gather some ‘real racing' data, which will be very helpful for the future development of the M1."

Jarvis further welcomed the experience and knowledge of 41 year-old Yoshikawa, adding: “The benefit of Wataru's presence in our team will be threefold.
