I strongly doubt that any FIAT Yamaha will beat Lorenzo this year unless a certain VR is riding it.

Right now Yamaha absolutely must throw all of the eggs into the Lorenzo camp and that means ensuring that he gains the maximum points available to him until such time as VR is fit, and even then I suspect that the FIAT Yamaha team will come first.

And before anyone asks, yes I mean that I strongly suspect that when VR returns and if his season is over (in terms of championship) he will ride to support Lorenzo if he has to in order to ensure that the #1 plate remains at Yamaha(even though that will probably hurt more than the leg itself)

Gaz

Totally agree Gaz. I think rossi will be more than willing to be a good team player and yamaha servant in assisting Lorenzo to the title when its mathematically impossible for himself to win it.

garry mccoy...

I would expect no replacement for the next two races, then Edwards. It would be unfair pressure on Spies, as Burgess pointed out.

Injured Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi will not be replaced for the next two races of the MotoGP season, team boss Davide Brivio has revealed.

Rossi, a nine-time world champion, is expected to be out for four months after breaking his leg in practice for the Italian MotoGP on Saturday.

Regulations state a team must replace an injured rider after two races.

But Brivio insists there is no rush, saying: "We will miss the next couple of races because that is allowed."

He added: "If it were up to Yamaha to decide alone, we would not enlist anyone to take his place from now to the end of the championship."

Brivio added: "If, as I think, Valentino stays out for longer [than two races] we have to find a replacement.

"It's very strange to speak about Valentino's replacement. But we will try to find the best solution we can."

The decision to delay appointing a new rider is likely to have been influenced by a lack of obvious replacements for the phenomenally successful Italian, who had never previously missed a race in 15 years of racing.

Brivio has already stated that the team's test riders are unsuitable while American superbike world champion Ben Spies is under contract to the non-works Tech3 Yamaha MotoGP team.

BBC Mentioned a Japanese rider & now Jules maybe they had some word off the grapevine

Nothing like making it interesting for us is there

I wonder if there were faster upgrades for Spies and Edwards being offered at the negotiation table.

so he isn't under contract with Yamaha? or did the author get it wrong?

I kinda read some of the posts, so I'll just answer the thread topic and skip some of the .........

I doubt Spies will sub for Rossi because of the stupid inconsistent rookie rule. Plus it sounds like Burgess doesn't want him (or at least expressed it "wouldn't be fair", etc). Putting a test rider on it is a waste of time though, perhaps just to honor Dorna's requirement to field two bikes. Just like Kallio subbed for Stoner last year, I'd wish they'd find a way to put Spies or Colin on the factory squad. Obviously if in the unlikely event they did figure out a way around the rules to put Spies, he'd have to relinquish any 'rookie of the year' eligibility (as if this means anything anyway). That would be my first choice, but if that doesn't work out, I'd try some wsbk Yamaha rider to sub in just for the experience of the whole thing, perhaps Cal Crutchlow.

You have to ask yourself who would be the perfect team-mate to a rider going for the championship? Because that is now what they are looking for, not a rider to compete for the championship.

True, but suppose Lorenzo is already very comfortable in the points lead on his closest adversary, then of course he would feel free...

exactly, a wise experianced rider who can test and develop new parts to help the now #1 rider to secure the championship. i.e Edwards.

My sentimental pick is easy and I'm shocked no one mentioned..............

JAMES TOSELAND!!!!

Would love to see him get another shot on a great machine. I know it's about as far fetched as Jumkie getting the call but it would be nice.

By "nice" I meant JT not Jumkie!

I'm hurt.

I'd also like to see James. But after the bad blood, I think there is no way he would be called. And can you imagine the risk? Suppose he started beating the Tech3 guys.

Would be cool to see what he could do on that bike though. He would be hungry and have no excuses not to perform other than being a bit rusty.

Julian Ryder says Takahashi. I can see both the sense and realism in it, but wouldn't be convinced without something official. I hope it is him though, it might make Aoyama a bit quicker

I have no hate for spies, im just not sucking his .... like some of you. Hew was good in AMA but he is a rookie in motogp and has yet to prove himself. For him to be given the factory ride in his rookie season is unfair on the other rookies. Domt mistake facts for hate ........

The hate for Spies is strong in this post......no mention of his WSBK title for the only year he was in the series. You are ozing hate.......
