Phillip Island GP 2011: Predictions, Practice, Qual

Oh my god, a Repsol rider waving a fist at a slower rider on track.

Seriously, how dare he.
<

Yeah, Spaniad on Spaniard though. So nothing to see here, move along!! :))

Stoner 1:30 flat. He ran a series of 30.6 laps in FP3, which is still faster than anyone's Q time so far. This is gonna be one Zzzz race at the front.

Gunna be great if he gets away from the pack and runs away with it, none of this boring shuttlcock match that "close racing" looks like
<

Hope we get a real treat tommorow, ie. a riding lesson from Stoner.

Why would you enjoy a bunch boring looking rider milling around swapping places, when there is a standout who is 1000 X better to watch ?

Close racing ........ STFU
<
If you guys really liked watching "close racing" WHyTF don't you watch a racing formula that produces it ?

Hayden just done a 1:30.7 to go 3rd!!!

Seriously, Hayden 3rd, Capriossi 9th, DePuniet 10th, .... WTF is Rossi doing down in 15th 1sec off Loris? It's just a little pinky finger for goodness sake. I bet he's hoping the soft tyre delivers something at the death of the session.

your about the only person that likes time trails so i have an idea.... instead of watching races just put QP on loop ........ lol

Aw, crap. Nicky got bumped by Sasquatch, Zook Boy and the Mad Hatter.

Still, P6 is fully respectable. Rossi's last-lap-lunge to P13 is pathetic.

Pedrosa never did hook it up this weekend.

Cudlin 4 seconds off Elias? Huh?

Stoner grabs pole, no one seriously able to challenge him.

Big winners - Bautista in 4th (thanks in part to a big tow from Dovi) and Hayden in 6th only 0.8s off pole and close in time to those around him and even the front row.

Rossi makes late improvement to jump to 13th and 2s off pole, and 1.2s off Hayden. Only beats the ducati of Abraham who crashed at the end of the session. (Cudlin sat out). He's seriously not trying you'd have to say, must just be waiting to see if it rains on Sun to decide if he'll bother trying or not.

rossi sightseing again prob looking for roos.

nice pole time from stoner tho, hope he gets caught up and doesnt run off with it, i want to see him fight to take the championship @ PI

Damn that was a fun qualie

Jlo might have a small chance to make it interesting

Step 3 on the podium should give us a good race battle.

Bautista looking good on that suzuki and just maybe he can get a good result and keep them in GP.

Super sic is gonna dnf

There was a fair bit of this in the session

rossi really needs to get into his head its all or nothing on that bike, seriously needs to be pushing it harder.

if he moans about his finger after QP someone go down there and stamp onit..... its 6am and my bedtime

So what is the rule on naming corners? Does a guy have to be retired?

Turn 3 Stoner corner.

.other qual thoughts:

.... Ducati

Nice leach tow Bautista

Feel bad for Cudlin, he's had a good attitude, .... Ducati

Feel bad for Abraham, .... Ducati, and you're team is stupid for leasing a Ducati next year

Spies, built Tonka tuff

Dovi, your star is falling, if Sic finishes ahead in the race, Honda will be vindicated (sorta)

Loris, balsy session

Pedro in 8th, so he will be almost be in the lead first corner.

There was a lot of fist waving and head shaking going on in that q session.....and none of it was from Stoner which is suprising.

Unsuprising was his lap times.....

or Rossi using his finger as an excuse......

Spies was brave to get the time he did after a big off.....cudos.

Also well done to Hayden and Bautista.

Weather here in Adelaide has been squally thunderstorms with lots of rain followed by periods of sunshine but the wind has been gusting quite badly all day long. Looks to be another Phillip Island race where the weather may play a role in determining the outcome - hopefully it stays dry.

If it is cold suiting soft tyres lorenzo is a chance. Stoner as opposed to earlier in the season seems to have found the trick of going fast on them for a few laps in practice but has not as yet to my knowledge demonstrated the ability to keep them going for race distance.

Pedrosa is the surprise although historically on more than a few occasions his race performance has had little to do with his qualifying times; I do wonder if, remembering 2006, honda might have turned the wick down on his bike.

Yes Casey certainly has turned around his pace on the soft tire in recent times.

Maybe....but I also think Pedro finds this track a bit intimidating...he had that nasty incident in 125cc where he broke both ankles in a fast crash years ago and has never been really fast at this track on the 800's.

it seems in less than favourable conditions, i.e bumpy, low traction, or wet conditions, (qatar, indy, Phillip island) the gap between stoner and the rest is even greater

not sure about pedro but i been thinking for a good few races they have def turned the wick down on simo's bike, think it was cos he was so close to front at some point they got scared of him killing golden boys chances, which is kinda understandable cos he binned it a few times.
