Yeah, with a problematic shoulder, he was still battling with Spies in the first race. Then, he was fighting for the win at Jerez (really slicing through the pack). After that, he was right on the pace at Estoril (right on the back of the pack). Then, he beat Lorenzo to the podium at Le Mans.
His results have not improved; it's actually the opposite...so I agree that there is a mental issue here.
And Hayden while not doing as well as last season (bike not him) is very steady, as you would expect
