Phillip Island GP 2011: Predictions, Practice, Qual

Agree! Does it matter if somebody has a history of plowing into the back of somebody? I suppose Pov would have no problem if a guy texting on the highway crashed into his family and injuring one of them, as long as the guy had never done that before.

Like I said, Marc is a nice kid (well seems that way from the cameras). But this is world racing level, there really is no place for this kind of brain fade. The penalty should be very harsh, harsh enough for people to really pause and think. I'm sure a race ban will leave an impression not just on Marc but on the whole field. Don't mess around.

You are so goofy sometimes, most times, hell, all of the time. People have accidents, Marquez wasnt texting, he wasnt drinking a beer. he wasnt smoking a joint. With that being said, lets get real. If someone runs into the back of my car and injures me or one of my family members, he is found guilty of failure to maintain control, gets a fine and his insurance company pays medical bills and any awards from a lawsuit. You are slapped on the wrist and told to pay attention. I guess with your attitude, everyone who has an accident should spend a little time in jail to think about what they did wrong. Its an accident, im sure you have never had one.

Not .... he wasn't text genius, the point, which you always manage to miss, is that he wasn't paying attention. You tried to defend the act by saying he doesn't have a history..bla bla bla. Dude almost kill himself and another rider on a professional world level event. At what point do these guys get a wake up call beyond the slap on the wrist. I think the answer to this question is, it depends who you are. John Hopkins got disqualified for less while others get nothing for worse, and this little one minute penalty is .........

Hopkins had done it more than once and his penalty is generally recognized as an over-reaction. Marquez is Spanish - to be honest I'm surprised that he received a penalty harsher than a stern talking-to. Starting last in a field of roughly 40 may be the break that Bradl needs.

The way I see Marquez' "penalty" is that DORNA is just luring in more viewers to the sport rather than "protecting" Marquez (well it did so indirectly). I mean c'mon. Aint to good publicity? Title chaser made huge(.......) mistake now championship will go down the last race whatsover? That is of course if Marquez can't bounce back during the race (in w/c he seriously could) to take a pole if not finish no higher than 4th/3rd or even ....... win.

As for motogp. I'm used to the procession. It's always (now) about the bike. All are equally skilled barring different specialties among the aliens but still the same. Good for the riders (easier ride) and the manufacturers (supremacy) though .... on racing. I only got a taste in LS and Sachserning this year for good racing.

The fastest Ducati today { Hayden} would have put him 5th on the WSBk starting grid at PI. Rossi time would have him bumping Corser's BMW for 7th.

Bloody hell...The Ducati GP concept is simply not working. Rossi vs Corser!

I only saw the slomo's so I did wonder why willairot was travelling so slowly on that line, the fact the session was over explains it.

Was marquez's lap live?

It's racing, do you think they wouldn't have have made the advancements without gp. Competition will always result in advancements just like war. You aren't getting anywhere near wsbk or gp times with 14k. The last time I priced hrc kit for my bike it was 300k and that doesn't include anything to do with the engine or electronics and supporting engineers to run those electronics. SBKs are nothing like what you can buy today and without your own or provided engineers you aren't going to compete with their times.
Do keep in mind that WSBK does still use q tires, but still. This is why im against the CRT bike and those who believe that CRT is the future of MotoGP. In theory, yes a prototype chassis should trump a production chassis, but it just goes to show what kind of technology an average Joe can go purchase these days for 13-14 k . All of this is a result of real prototype racing over the decades. We get technology in our street bike that at one time was top shelf GP stuff, that filtered to Superbikes, and down to us.Like i said, what we are able to buy as a consumer is mind boggling if you think about it. The production stuff has got so good, you have to spend tons of money to drastically improve on it.

Your right he wasn't doing any of those things! He also was not paying attention to his surroundings and by doing so was endangering 30 odd other riders! As Wilairot found out.

Also good point about the insurance! But tell me how many people do you know that has insurance for motorsport? Last I heard you couldn't get it. Hence the wavers that are posted at every track gate you walk or drive through.

Just face it Pov he was acting like a .... and got off very lightly. .... me Casey got 5grand for a slap and Marquez gets a poxy minute penalty. Wheres the consistancy in that????

Was marquez's lap live?

No. In his statement Marquez said it's a fast track, and he was in fourth gear on a fifth gear turn (probably still too fast, but he wanted to see how the bike settings were after sitting out most of FP1), and that as he approached the turn he could only see one rider but when they separated he saw Wilairot but it was too late to stop.

With povol on it -- he got a penalty for his mistake, and he doesn't have a pattern of them. Yeah, Wilairot could have been killed, but since racing necessarily involves high speed, the mistakes are amplified. It's not like Marquez blew a red light and ran over an old man -- race tracks are inherently dangerous. But it's a hard reminder to the riders: when the flag falls, stop pushing.

That is exactly what he did in track terms, the checkerred flag is the light that tells you slow the .... down.

Yawn..its just racing, bla bla "he could have killed somebody" yawn. Because mistakes are amplified so should the penalties.

Maybe he should've been suspended this round, but starting from the back might very well cost him the championship. I doubt he's shrugging it off.

I hear you man, but I just think starting from the back is reserved for mild infractions. Everybody involved is very lucky that these two walked away from this. I have a feeling that this fact made the penalty very light (that and that its Marc Marquez). If one of them would have been placed in a coma, paralyzed, or killed, then what would have been the appropriate penalty? So you would have been ok for Marc to start from the back while the other kid parents would have been looking to arrange for a funeral? I don't want Marc hung, as my buddy Pov suggest, but just a very strong message that dicking around after you've had a bad practice and ignoring the rules of a slow down lap is not a light issue.

I think, though it opens things up for a lot of subjectivity, that a penalty should take into consideration the consequences. And in saying that, a race suspension would be appropriate, since Wilairot is out for this round.

But an eye-for-an-eye penalty system could get oppressive real quick.

Yes, agree. The outcome should not bare upon the penalty. That's my point. I think the penalty was light because both walked away. I think sitting out one race would have been appropriate for such a big deal. In the AMA this year, you may remember Herrin was given a one race suspension for his part in causing a crash at the Daytona 200. And I would say that was more mild than what happened in the Moto2 practice. For Herrin, you could almost call it a racing incident, but for Marquez, he blatantly ignored the checkered as he selfishly wanted to check the settings on his bike because of an earlier crash. Herrin gets a race suspension, Marquez will probably be mid pack within a few laps and will finish well into the points on Sunday.

I think it'll be hard for him to get very near the front-- he's going to be making very careful passes, what with the magnifying glass that will be on him (it's not like he's a frizzy-haired sasquatch who laughs at criticism).

True, though even Sasquatch has calmed down quite a bit. I swear I though he would take down Dovi at Motegi, but he ended up making an aggressive but clean pass (though who knows how much of that was luck).
<

The part that gets me was what I think was Marc's intend. He thought he could get away with an extra few seconds of a hot lap to make up for a previous issue.

Marquez crashed early in the session and didn't return until about a minute remained. He lacked enough time to make a complete hot lap but inexplicably stayed at speed after taking the checkered at the finish, hitting Wilairot in Turn 3. SBP

Got to Agree with Junkie on this

its the end of the season ........

the powers that been want to keep the moto2 title kept down to the wire

its been the best class all year for action / races

Dorna Spanish money is a calling here

in 2003 Hopper was involved in a turn 1 crash at the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi, he was accused of causing this crash,

and was suspended for one race <<<<<<<<<<<<<<!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pot kettle black

Roll on 2012 BSB .... this horseshit

<
Pigsh, I like your enthusiasm.
<

BSB was the highlight of my racing year, except for the end.
<

PI looks heavenly, I'm glad Dorna didn't change it because they didn't like the weather...hahaha

Predictions for phillip island. Well obviously duc on podium last two years and rossi having 5 straight wins here would suggest he likes the track.

Casey and lore to have epic battle and vale top 5.

Its obvious im not a vale fan but lower temps as well even the playing field and boost team ducs chances.
