Phillip Island GP 2011: Predictions, Practice, Qual

wow, and we thought sic was stupid

this is divine intervention to help the only kalex rider in the top 10 get that title

go stefan!

Wow, a triple post! Is that a new record?

Nahh... at least not for long. Wait'll QP; someone will beat your record.

Moto2 World Championship leader Marc Marquez will have to start Sunday's Australian Grand Prix from the back of the grid for causing a big accident in Friday morning practice.

Marquez, seeking to make up for time lost in an earlier fall, continued at high speed after the chequered flag - and slammed into the back of a slower-moving Ratthapark Wilairot through turn two.

The incident was examined by Race Direction, who reprimanded Márquez for 'riding in an irresponsible manner' with a one-minute penalty to be added to his best lap time in Saturday's qualifying session.

Márquez's team lodged an appeal against the decision, following which FIM stewards confirmed the decision of Race Direction.

Wilairot was airlifted to hospital for precautionary medical checks, while Marquez walked away from the incident with minor injuries and was able to take part in the afternoon session, which he finished in 17th place.

Repsol Suter rider Marquez took the title lead by one point from Stefan Bradl at the previous Japanese round. Kalex rider Bradl was fastest on combined Friday practice times at Phillip Island.

Ok, haven't seen the incident, stuck in office behinfd proxies and firewalls, but if it was as described, this seems hard to credit. A rider going flat out after the flag causes an accident, gets another rider hospitalised, and all the team can do is appeal against the penalty.

A former drinking mate had his career ended at Donny by an accident that sounds like a carbon copy of this. This is deadly serious stuff, and the Marquez camp should just take it on the chin

Maybe the Powerslider who suggested Marquez would be the next target of hate has a superior grade of crystal ball.

the off seasons going to be a .......

bit of OT News

Aoyama to Castrol Honda ?

L.Camier tweeted

leoncamier: Haha just had front row seat to max & Marco having another punch up on the slow down lap!

This speed disparity thing is not a trivial issue. Ask Bubba Shobert and Kevin Magee.

The Marquez thing was just pay back from an earlier wrestling incident. Here they are going for gold at the 2008 olympics in the 95 lbs weight division.

The fastest Ducati today { Hayden} would have put him 5th on the WSBk starting grid at PI. Rossi time would have him bumping Corser's BMW for 7th.

This is why I don't understand why the CRT team(s) well, the one that tested, was so far back. Shouldn't a highly costume chassis trump a factory production chassis, in theory?

Once again, race direction is chickenshit. Dude should be banned for one race if not several races. He almost kill Wilairot by dicking around. Total ....... favortism.

CHICKENSHIT!

Talking about possibly throwing a title away. Watch and see if he doesnt make it worse by being in a hurry to cut through the field on Sunday. ........

He (Marc) shouldn't even be in that race. Wilairot will probably watch that race from the garage or hospital.

This is obviously different because marquez was not entitled to be going at such a pace, but this is the sort of accident stoner fears, ungracious or not though he may be about the issue.

Apples Oranges as you say, I don't think Stoner has the market cornered on this though, les you forget he also participated in a bit of on track antics on what 'he' deemed as balking (as oppose to parking).

Would never happen The spanish controllers won't let it!

.... YOU DORNA!

Yup. And I like Marc Marquez, its nothing against him personally, but the kid wasn't thinking and almost killed (literally) or worse, paralyzed that Thai boy who also has a right to share a safe track. Check out his back as he is hit. That kid has suffered a lot of injury this year to make matters worse, now its coming from fellow competitors who are seeing red.

Do keep in mind that WSBK does still use q tires, but still. This is why im against the CRT bike and those who believe that CRT is the future of MotoGP. In theory, yes a prototype chassis should trump a production chassis, but it just goes to show what kind of technology an average Joe can go purchase these days for 13-14 k . All of this is a result of real prototype racing over the decades. We get technology in our street bike that at one time was top shelf GP stuff, that filtered to Superbikes, and down to us.Like i said, what we are able to buy as a consumer is mind boggling if you think about it. The production stuff has got so good, you have to spend tons of money to drastically improve on it.

Michael, that is exactly the vision I had when I saw the incident. And its still a sore issue. Perhaps why I'm being a bit dramatic with Marquez.

I think you guys are being a little harsh on Marquez. I dont know for sure, but he does not have a history of having brain farts and being called a dangerous rider, does he? He ...... up and is paying a damn heavy price. If the stupidity becomes a pattern, then you take harsh measures.

Not as heavy a price as Wilairot Pov!

He caused substantial injury to a fellow competitor by been a ....!

He should be sent home to think about what hes done. Made to cough up for the repairs to the other bike and pay for all Wilairots medical expenses.

He wouldn't do it again!

Agree! Does it matter if somebody has a history of plowing into the back of somebody? I suppose Pov would have no problem if a guy texting on the highway crashed into his family and injuring one of them, as long as the guy had never done that before.

Like I said, Marc is a nice kid (well seems that way from the cameras). But this is world racing level, there really is no place for this kind of brain fade. The penalty should be very harsh, harsh enough for people to really pause and think. I'm sure a race ban will leave an impression not just on Marc but on the whole field. Don't mess around.
