Updated Moto2 entry list - Pramac, Roberts gone
An updated team entry list for the inaugural 2010 Moto2 World Championship has just been announced by the FIM.

A total of 23 teams with 37 riders have been accepted. All of the accepted teams have now confirmed their participation by lodging a security deposit with IRTA.

Those teams no longer on the entry list are: Balatonring Racing Team 250, Pramac Racing and Team Roberts.

As a result, Promoracing has been promoted from reserve while Viessmann Kiefer Racing has expanded from one to two riders.

Moto2, which will feature prototype chassis designs powered by identical 600cc four-stroke engines built by Honda, will replace the 250cc World Championship.

i'd have tried a rookie myself.take a risk on someone

Former Pramac Ducati MotoGP rider Niccolo Canepa will remain in the grand prix paddock next season after signing to ride in the new Moto2 World Championship.

The Italian, who missed the closing rounds of his rookie 2009 MotoGP season due to injury, will ride for the Scot Racing Team in the new 600cc class, which replaces 250GP.

"I'm absolutely pleased with the agreement we signed,” said Canepa. “And I'm am really happy about the possibility to play a creative role in a working group that has been able to show high potential and capable of great results - this season and in the past. A new class, a new bike: it will be a tough job, but with rewarding perspectives. The target is to do well.”

Scot Racing won the final 250cc World Championship with Hiroshi Aoyama this season and will race its own Moto2 design next year.

Hmmm.. I wonder with this class being only Honda motors, wouldn't the premier MotoGP teams who also will be running in Moto2 know the inner workings of the Honda motor, thus giving them info on their competitors in MotoGP who are running them? I know it's probably nowhere near the sophistication of it's 800cc brother, but still it makes one wonder.

Dunno if it's said elsewhere but Aprilia has cancelled their Moto2 plans despite already having signed up several teams as clients (including 125cc world champion Julián Simón).

The statement released by Piaggio group said:
"It makes no sense to participate in a competition where we're obliged to use technology (engines) from a rival company".
source(Italian)

Surprising, I wonder what happened. Crisis? The explanation is ........, the rules were layed out months ago, if it "doesn't make sense" now it shouldn't have made sense back then. I think the affected teams and riders will not be very happy about this.

someone posted something about Aprilia entering MotoGP when they go to 1000s so maybe they just want to concentrate on that and SBK and needed a good excuse

i first thought about a switch to motogp when they said they announced they are not going ahead with the moto2 project.....i can see them working on a project throughout next year and maybe enter motogp in 2011 if dorna confirm that 990 or 1000 cc bikes wil be used.

hopefully it goes ahead and other teams/manufacturers come back to motogp.

The answer is that the production CBR600RR is much more reminiscent of the Moto2 engine(compared to the RC212V engine). In fact, Moto2 teams are using a 600RR engine in their frames until the 'official' spec engine is released.

Therefore anyone with access to a 600RR engine(read: everyone) should not be at a disadvantage.

I hope this team are worthwhile. After last season seing Scott struggle with a terrible team i'd hope things are getting better for him and he isn't going the way of Laverty

It seems he'll be riding the same bike as Stefan Bradl and Robby Rolfo amongst others so at least we can hope for a decent gauge of his performance

Elias has been confirmed at the Gresini team for this year, alongside a name which i've already forgotten and suspect is in place for financial reasons. I can't wait to see how the pecking order pans out in moto2's first season.

Well i'm pretty excited but i think a lot of people may be disappointed, its quite possible we'll see someone get the bike right and walk it... an engineering race. We'll see

I`m a little dissapointed with the engineering race Tom.I was expecting at least one bike with some sort of radical front end,but its not to be.Still it hasn`t effected my overall excitement for Moto2.

Living in Thailand we (my Motogp crazy mates) have become big fans of Wilairot and was wondering why he and team mate Faubel were not shown in the Moto2 testing times. Have their team dropped out or are they testing elsewhere, or are they both injured. I can't find any info on the net, can anyone enlighten us?

Apparently the team is short of cash, and they are unlikely to compete. Faubel is said to be looking for a ride elsewhere, while Wilairot is keeping in shape by testing a supersport bike.

Shame, as Wilairot was pretty good.

...., I asked this same question in the Moto2 thread (where it belongs!!?) during the last test... Hi Monster1100 - where are you in LOS? We are in Phuket... hope you hang around and join in the fun here!

Honda SAG seemed to be a reasonably well funded team... WTF happened? Global economy at play? Hope Hector and Ratthapark land a ride somewhere... gonna miss rootin' for the Thai kid!!!

Yep my reaction as well.............! Wilairot was really doing well and starting to get a good fan base back in Thailand, amongst Thais and Farang alike. We were flying the Thai flag for him at Sepang last year, what a great time that was.

Mick D, i am in Sin City Pattaya, well on the outskirts anyway.
