He may be getting the Peders treatment but he's on the McCoy career path now with all these injuries...

Hopkins is making a fool of himself. He needs to stop crashing while riding slowly at the back of the field. He's really hurting his career prospects with the move to Stiggy and I bet Johan has some regrets about signing him up.

I'm sure Hopkins bike repair bills and his medical expenses from 2 rounds of work have probably already exceeding the Monster sponsorship check.

Very interesting qualy session today. Rea looking very good, Spies off just a slight bit, Fabrizio looking very solid, Byrne making a surprising trip the 2nd row, Haga definitely not on pace. Surprise of the day though is Smrz, good job on picking up pole, but can the guy turn this great result into a podium? Hope we have a multi-bike, bang out fight tomorrow, NO rain please.

Damn, if Shakey had come in earlier I think he would have nailed that with the gap he made in the wet conditions.

Credit to Spies' team, brought him in bang at the right time.

How class was Fabritizo's bike swap! 10 points for style...........he did well holding off jack off.

Sure and right after that Tojo will come back from the dead reverse all Japan's
defeats from WW ll, and the Japanese blowfish will replace the American eagle.

All it says on the official site is that Spies had a clutch issue.

So great to see Rea get his first win after that awesome scrap with the 2 Ducati's. Fabrizio was amazing again too.

I misssed race 1 but it's nice to have Shakey finally get a podium.

WTF happened to Norge on the in-lap after the WSS race? I looked away for 2 seconds, then I looked back and he was on his arse in the middle of the track.

Yamaha could really stand a bit better reliability. They're giving away way too many points on things that should not happen.

Well ....,this championship is just not in the cards it seems.Spies has been an animal all year and to put it bluntly, is being let down by his team. Was the clutch just one of those things or was it an oversight like the fuel and the shifter falling off. These guys can obviously build a fast bike but the attention to detail is lacking big time. I would rather the ....... thing blow up,you can blame that on developing a new engine. This lack of attention to detail ........ has got to stop. There is still time for a title run but even Spies is getting frustrated knowing what could have been for this weekend. After he made up huge points in the last race,he was poised to make up 15-20 more this week and that was pissed down the tubes while he adjusted the ....... bike on the fly.Its amazing he got what he got. Has Ducati hired a sleeper for the Yamaha Italia squad, nobody can .... up on a stage this big as often as they are.

"s what i said, reliability isseus has mainly been the problem that cost Haga the championship the last 2 years. At least the Yamaha isn't shredding tyres like it used to.

First race was pretty interesting, had Byrne come in a little earlier he surely had a big chance on the win. But congrats on a second nontheless.
The second race was prolly the best we had all season, great to see Rea and especially Ten Kate are able to up their game a bit.

Are you high?

Haga rode sporadically these seasons. Now looking at the Yamaha, he may have been over riding the bike as we can clearly see that the Yamaha is not the best bike on the grid. He was pushing over the limits because Bayliss and Ducati easily had their number just about every round. The shredded tires may have been the effect of pushing too hard.

Great races both 1 & 2. Once I realized it would be a wet race I settled my hope in Spies simply finishing in front of Haga. But for him to get the win goes to show you just how amazing this kid is performing. We fill entire thread spaces with the challenges faced by rider, from tires, to electronics, to track knowledge, etc.; yet, the amount on Spies' plate in WSBK is mind boggling, and the guy has excelled at every challenge. Ben didn't have but one or two flying laps to understand the Pirelli rain tire (remember, he's been on Dunlops his whole career), so he basically had to learn the tire in the wet race! Not to mention that this track is new. Racing in the rain is not something we see often in the States, so for Spies to get a wet win in a flag to flag race is outstanding. If we had Spies finishing within the top 5 every round we could tip our hats and say, the kid is amazing. But what he is doing, with all the new challenges he is facing, is simply beyond comprehension.

They had Mr. Kevin Schwantz in the commentary booth, and they asked him about his opinion on Spies. I hate when people compare a new rider to a legend as they asked him the very unoriginal question; "is Spies the next Kevin Schwantz?" Personally, if I had been there I would have laughed and asked the guy to tone down the use of clichés. But Schwantz said he thought he might be better. Well obviously he's not gonna say anything bad, then again he could have said, 'Spies if off to a great start and we'll have to wait and see.' (Which is what I would have said, because inevitably, when you compare a rookie to a legend it always has the same fing effect--it puts an unrealistic expectation on the rider, i.e. John Hopkins). This is really a dis-service to any rider, a big FU to the commentary guys on this one.

Race two was frustrating to watch for the first half since most of my focus was on Spies and his mechanical issues. I though, damn, this guys beats off every challenge and scores a win, under conditions that should have produced a win for others more familiar in the wet; yet the race two starts dry and Spies can't catch a break. He's been denied double wins this season (in theory) due to mechanicals, which is simply unacceptable.

Another thought I had, and this one is a bit more controversial, but it seems to me that the Ducati 1200 (yes, its NOT a 1098) is the Buell equivalent of the first few round of the Daytona Sportbike class in the AMA. That is to say, I smell a rather unbalance advantage on that bike. It really takes an extraordinary effort by both Rea on a Honda and Spies on a Yamaha to beat the Ducati, whether they be a factory or satellite bike. Congrats to J. Rea, a worthy winner.

Ok, and here is my last observation, after I got over sulking and snickering from seeing Spies' mechanical problem is race two, about mid race I started to focus more on the race at the front. It actually turned out to be a great race. As I watched it, I started thinking about MotoGP and the buzz that ensued after the Catalonian race. Race two was very similar, yet this was a three-way battle. Rea and Fabrizio mixed it up and neither wanted to give up an inch. BTW, I think I became a J. Rea fan, I was rooting for him to beat both Ducatis. Both Haga and Fabrizio tried their hand at beating Rea and he stepped up to the challenge and won by a hair. The coverage made a point of showing Valentino Rossi arriving in a helo and seeing the race from the sidelines. The most admired motorcycle racer in the world is an admirer of WSBK. Why would that be? So here is my point, my observation as I put it: Why is it that that the same GP fans on this forum don't appear in the WSBK threads? I always wonder why these threads here on WSBK are so lonely. WSBK produces regularly what GP fans were all a buzz last race (which only happens about once a year if we are lucky, but WSBK produces that type of races almost every round with the exception of some dominating performances at a few races by Spies and Haga this year). Yet here we see about the same 4-5 members discussing WSBK. I don't get it.

Race 1
Good ole wet race, but oh wait, it's drying and the rules are like MotoGP this year, get ready for strategic bike swapping. Byrne was utterly amazing in the wet, if there ever is another full wet race he will be a shoe-in for a victory. Unfortunately for Byrne these types of races (as proven by Lorenzo) are all about the right time to swap. Not sure why Xaus, Hacking, and whomever else decided to stay out late on wets.

Great job by Spies getting the switch right, a well earned victory. And Byrne, even though he didn't time the switch, still had a great finish for a first podium. Good ride by Fabrizio as well, and as previously mentioned, sweet form on the bike switch.

Race 2
First off, Spies and his bike issues. Pretty clear the team needs to get their .... together, tossing away 3 races due to tech issues is unforgivable. Once the bike got sorted he did well to chop thru traffic and finish as well as possible.

Now on to the race for the win. WOW, what an amazing race. J. Rea earned an amazing first win. Fabrizio wanted a home race win real bad, he was trying all he could to maintain his lead, but a last lap pass and defensive riding by Rea sealed it up. Haga trying his best to take the win, but played it smart and picked up the points. My vote for best WSBK race of the year so far. If it were Lorenzo, Rossi, and Stoner having the exact same race, people would be going bonkers for months on end. Granted no dramatic last corner pass, but still a great battle.

Bring on Donington!!

You have your fans of just riders (all the Rossi or Stoner fans for example, who only make a showing when their idol is winning), or fans of just what is "The Best" (fans of only MotoGP because it is sold as the best, arguable of course, but for the most part I agree), and then there are the fans of the Sport. Unfortunately I would say there are a lot of the first two on this forum, rather then the latter. But to be fair, there may also just be those that can't watch the races or don't have the time to comment. But I would reason to guess a good portion of people just don't care because they don't consider it "The Best" and not worthy of their time. I started watching BSB this year (thanks to a "way" to get the races) and I love it, more great racing to watch.

spies can still win the championship.. it's different now, compared to the beginning of the season.. as long as his r1 is reliable, then fabrizio and rea can help him by finishing in front of haga.. rea won his first dry race now that tenkate brought the new ohlins suspension.. he is very fast and he will be up front now.

donington park should be the second track this year that spies has raced before, right?
