Michelin® Australian Motorcycle GP 2016 Nicky Hayden extravaganza with spoilers

Safety is an issue. You could slide twice as far in the wet and hit a solid object that you wouldn't reach in the dry, as an example.

This has certainly been a wet year, and with the other changes to MotoGP, the results have been interesting, to say the least. If all races were wet, would the entire field be different? Would all those Spaniards suddenly be Brits? I am not sure. MM would still be there, I think.

Ah, so some reckon the track was wet , bah, this is the track when it gets really wet (turn 1)

Remember WSB 2001? When Troy Corser lead a boycott of race 2 and stood at the top of pit lane with Yanagawa, Bostrom and Bussei to prevent anyone foolish enough to try and take their grid position? The conditions weren't that far off your photo Gaz. I'm amazed the shivering Colin Edwards hasn't recalled this during the BT Sport coverage this weekend since he rode a sighting lap to gauge the severity of conditions.

Most exciting photo of a 15th place finish I've seen in years.

But if Michelin are saying no more than 10 laps then essentially the tyre cannot be used for a full race as it will require 2 pit stops to change tyres (laps 10 and 20 of the 27 lap race)

Alternately, in a flag to flag you are not allowed to rejoin the race on a bike with the same tyre combination, thus you will or may be able to use it from laps 1 - 10 then 21-27 only.

Either way, it is the 10 lap stipulation of Michelin renders the tyres useless, as to change their recommendation now is to disadvantage those that have not used the tyre (changing the recommendation for Sepang however is not an issue if changed prior to the weekend).

How the tyre was when coming off Rossi's bike is also in some way mute as we have seen many times this year already that tyre degradation has varied dramatically between riders on equal or same machinery (setting of course should or could cause minor variance)

It's an under the counter "Un"-Qualifier rubber.

If it gets really wet tomorrow, I would have to put my money behind Nicky Hayden. He has a lot of experience when it comes to navigating Phillip Island in really wet conditions.

You are joking correct? That hayseed, country bumpkin has won all of THREE races in his entire career on factory bike and you expect a win tomorrow?? If everyone crashes, maybe he has chance. And people here knocking Hiroshi Aoyama? For a rider who does not have regular ride and no practice time he did very well in Motegi.

Shows just how little you know about GP. He has more laps at Motegi than any rider in the field as he is the Honda test rider and Motegi is the Honda test track.

Aoyama will go down in history as the last person to clinch a 250cc WC. With way more wins than Hayden. Don't use him as a benchmark unless you want to go down the "lesser" Championship route. Numpty

All the ........ aside, this is going to be extremely fascinating to see what the 2017 M1 iteration looks like. I'm not sure they can afford to build the bike as a corner beast anymore with the Michelin front tire being what it is. The bike absolutely struggles when it needs to get heat into the front tire. Of course if Michelin improves the front, it may be a moot point. But if it remains the same next year, that will be a problem for Yamaha.

They showed Marquezs pole winning lap on video pass with the camera looking at home the whole time. It's a shot angle most of the time, it got me thinking though a helmet cam would be ....... awesome.

The first row guys were asked about their opininon on moving PI race to earlier date.

MM: not really, we've been here in Feb. and the weather was just as bad.
CC: not against it...(i didn't really listen)
PE: the race is special because of the weather (in a good way), you never know (So basically against moving it)

I guess most riders see it that way. Rossi might be alone there but you never know with Dorna.

They won't do it anyway, IIRC the reason for the flyaways being back to back is financial. It's not their fault Rossi can't handle the pressure for whatever reason. And it's Melbourne the weather is ...... no matter when. There's been problems at PI no matter when it's run.

Of course he is joking, that is a picture of Nicky steering a boat.

You once again have gotten things approximately 180 degrees wrong. You are not cleverly reversing things on the "Rossi haters", you are repeating the history which led to current attitudes towards Rossi and a significant portion of his fans of your opponents on here, most of whom would have readily acknowledged Rossi's greatness prior to the derision directed at Hayden, Stoner etc for actually competing against him successfully.

I would like to just have Marquez's secondary prize winnings. He just wrapped up his 4th new BMW M car in 4 years. That's close to a half million in cars alone

Very true, as I can say having been born there. Sydney is not immune to torrential rain either though, and wet or dry the GPS held there were mostly unspectacular, Eastern Creek being a Mickey Mouse manufactured track.

PI is a natural wonder of the bike racing world, and as has been said the weather has been reasonable for most races held there. 1 wet race a decade is probably acceptable to have such a track in the series, as Pol seems to think. If it starts to happen every second year I guess that would be different, but places like Sachsenring and Assen seem to be wet more commonly, and even Qatar was wet once.

And tomorrow's race is almost assuredly going to be dry but cool. Look for Marquez to make a statement. The only thing that scares me is the unusuual suspects starting up front

Only 21 Poles to go until he reaches (I couldn't find anyone with more in the premier class) Mick Doohans pole record. I think he's going to be the first guy to hit 100 poles.

Will likely be the first and only guy to 100 wins and 100 poles.

Agreed, I think we will likely see a dominant race from Marquez. The Yamahas are likely going to struggle due to not getting the heat in the front. As crazy as it may sound I think the podium will be 93-35-43 with Vinaeles as the guy I pick to be able to push one of them from the podium.

Mike Jones in front of his Avintia team mate, Tito (where is Harry and MV, Tito needs tips) and Lorenzo ............. great effort even allowing for track familiarity.

Big kudos here to Mike who again is doing himself no harm at all.

It`s not him, it`s the bike.
