Mat Oxley on the Michelin tires

You do realize Stoner is Jorge's "coach" now right?
Stoner has told us he mastered the art of tire dynamics. Too bad he didnt get that masters degree until post retirement. Im sure Jorge will benefit from telling a multi champion that the front is different than the rear. This couldn't come too soon. I've seen of a lot of teams trying to fit the front onto the rear and vice versa. Here's a tip for Michelin, maybe they should label them front and back.
When Stoner inevitably quits Ducati (again). Theres always a career as a North Korean press writer for him

Why so bitter JK?

Stoner will start coaching Lorenzo next year I presume, given one is a Ducati employee and the other a Yamaha employee currently.

Stoner does has previous form with detection of tire/tyre problems, given it would seem very likely he was correct about the decidedly non-premium Michelin front tyres with which LCR were provided in his rookie year of 2006, and his correct prediction that the new tyre voted in by the riders in 2012 would fail in race conditions, in regard to which your boy Vale himself dubbed him a "wizard".

As it happens btw someone with whom I am rather well acquainted recently quite literally retired from a job which paid AUD 4 million per year, because she was tired of it and considered she already had enough money. Must be an Australian thing.

All they will say is "It's not the same Ducati that Rossi rode"..it's already preprogammed into their brain as an excuse.
My come back would be Rossis Ducati was actually better. Stoner won 3 races in 2010, I doubt Ducati will win two more races this yr.

Therefore, IF Jorge wins a race he is better than Rossi.....end of argument

Ok so I am a know-nothing-technical kind of person.

I have never ridden a bike at anything even remotely like these guys. I've never leaned into a corner so much that my knee and or elbow scrape the ground. I have had a front wash out though hahaha probably at about 20mph... haha

Anyway, the point of the post is...

When the .... are they going to do something about these tyres??! Are they waiting until one of the riders is seriously injured or killed?

I watched FP3, it got a bit frightening. It's not good to see these guys lose it time after time, and almost always with a front washout. Something has to be done, surely?!

I suppose one good thing is that the spontaneously exploding tyre we saw right at the beginning of the season seems to have gone.

Personally (and Mike feel free to jump in please as there may be 'good' and 'bad' fractures so medically some may be like a broken finger - thus I ask), I would consider two fractured vertebrae in the one season to be two to many so it may be time.

Bitter?
No way Mike. The highlight of 2017 for me will be watching Stoner fufill his omniscient role as Jorges designer handbag.
Since when am I a fan of VR ?

Depends on location. Someone with a bad fracture can heal much quicker at Philip Island. I would caution though. There is a large dropoff in wellness after leaving the island

My decidedly former expertise was in neurology rather than neurosurgery, but as I understand it both the fractures concerned were 'good' in that they were vertebral body burst fractures rather than fractures which threatened the integrity of the spinal cord in either rider.

As I also understand it the 'carapace' technology in the riding suits now, devised after Rainey's horrible accident leading to his paraplegia, is designed to be protective against similar injuries, and there don't seem to have been many in the way of similar injuries since.

What I am unsure about is how different crashes which lead to vertebral burst fractures are from accidents which cause spinal injuries.

Your bitterness against Stoner, now heading for 4 years in retirement with two premier class world titles more than most people, tens of millions of dollars and no record of being afraid of any bike, even the Ducati 800 when it was truly diabolical, let alone any competitors, is what is in question.

I have my own view on all the recent argy bargy. I believed MM and Jorge were being subjected to the same nonsense which Stoner suffered, to which Stoner's rather large ".... you" to all and sundry was imo at least partly a consequence. I was very down on Rossi after late season 2015 until quite recently, because I saw him as quite complicit in all that recent anti-MM and anti-JL stuff, and hence also in the persecution of Stoner and his predecessors, rather than this just being down to a crazy element among his fandom as had previously been my conclusion.

As I said to Daniboy recently, I now think Rossi genuinely believes in his ludicrous conspiracy theory concerning late season 2015, and the PI 2015 race in particular, which doesn't imo clear him from being delusional with a profound sense of entitlement, but does mean he is not as malicious and deliberately manipulative as I had supposed.

Labeling me as bitter or a VR fan, is a cop out and intended to diminish my opinion by lumping me in with fanatics. Ive said this a few times before, most people that have a strong opinion about Stoner only do so because they are either Aussie, hate Rossi or love Rossi. I happen to have a healthy dislike for both riders.

And it is my observation most of the people who hate Stoner are Rossi fans, to which you admittedly may be an exception.

You can dislike Stoner's personality all you like. The "quitter" stuff is what I find objectionable and irrational, particularly given he persisted on the Ducati no-one else could ride for 4 years, winning races every year, and Ducati (or more precisely the Marlboro man, who is not exactly leading Ferrari back to their glory days currently) quit on him, not the other way around.

He very much does, I put it to a well respected journo last night and the answer was 'he really believes it' I gathered that after the Suzi Perry interview but had to confirm it from a reliable source. As I ended the conversation with, he needs someone to put him straight.

I believe the quitter label is the least debatable since it is a irrefutable fact that he....well, quit

Of course he does. How many rational Italians have you ever met?
Is it any coincidence the Catholic church calls its HQ there

He made his choice, big deal.

Do I wish he was still racing? Absolutely, but there's not much you can do about it. 7 seasons of Stoner was better than none. Doing something you don't get enjoyment out of doesn't make much sense by any measure.

Haha. You know you dont believe those ........ platitudes.

If you say, won the lottery and never had to work another day in your life. Are you saying you would carry on working a job you don't like just to say "I ain't no quitter' than to retire and enjoy a life of never having to work again?

He chose to retire because he didn't enjoy what he was doing anymore. Hundreds of people make the same choice every day.
