Make or break year for Spies

To be honest, it would be a huge u turn for Rossi, but I agree, there may just be a wee chance at Yam for him. Honda, no way, you don't leave Honda and go back. But, the Yamaha thing might just be a goer. I don't see why Yamaha would touch Pedrosa, he's had it his own way at Honda for years, and got made to look second hand by Stoner. Stranger things have happened................

Sponsorship money.

Pedrosa is the Spanish Haga - minus likeability.

Minus a bit more brotha.
<
How was your recent trip? PM me the details.

Why would Repsol even dream of hiring Spies over Pedrosa?

Wins ...... definitely not.

Likeability ....... no way, Repsol and their customers hardly even know who Spies is let lone like him. They already have a Spanish guy who is a household name and adored by their customers.

Hell, Stoner won the WC for Repsol, and they are only just fie with that. At least they can kinda drag out Pedro .... cos he's part of the wining team ......... and I think Stoner is just fine with things like that.

Spies v's Pedor ........ no contest ATM, check back with me on that at the end of 2012 though.

You USer's have a rednecked idea:

1. of just how, good your riders currently are

2. of how "liked" they are internationally.

At least we know and can see how "liked: Stoner is I guess

You teabags Ozzies (displaced Brits)... always think you have everyone sussed out - but you're just as prone to believe media hype as anyone else.

I assume you're talking to me. I never suggested Pedrosa was less popular in Europe than Spies. I was merely carrying forward the proposition that Spies would likely enjoy more success on the better sorted out Honda.

Why all the negativity about everyone and everything except stoner, whilst bristling at even the most minor criticism of stoner? It even annoys me at times, and I am hardly anti-stoner.

I think it is very valid to speculate concerning spies and pedrosa swapping, particularly since both are up for new contracts for 2013 and marquez can't be on a factory honda till 2014 at the earliest. Spies was a fabulous superbike rider, and I myself wonder whether the more raw power-orientated honda 800 may have suited him better than the yamaha, while the yamaha 800 seemed like more of a cornerspeed/250 style bike, and dani was an excellent 250 rider, where he beat both stoner and lorenzo. Spies has had his problems on the yamaha, particularly his starts which may relate to his size, but on the week-end in Assen when everything came together for him he smoked everyone including stoner, so even on the yamaha it would be reasonable to think there is some potential there.

Michael ........ am not going to sit here and deny the facts:

Pedrosa still is winning more than Spies ......... by a long shot ......... he doesn't even show less promise yet.

Pedrosa is a well loved MGP star in his own country.

How is it even possible to not take these into account when discussing how Spies could replace Pedrosa!?

I am quite clearly positive about Pedrosa, I also am about Lorenzo, Spies, etc. etc. etc but if its negative to attempt to not take a "rednecked" view of the reality of Pedrosa v's Spies .......... then so be it, and I shall remain so ......... may even get worse at it too.

If I was to take some the posts in this thread as reality then I am to believe:

Spies has won and will win more than Pedrosa ........ no he hasn't and maybe he might as I said. I cann0t answer "oh yeah I hate that midget mofo and his knocky offy Haydeny ways, and he hasn't achieved anything" ......... this is the guy that has the 4th most wins in the current line-up.

Who's being negative about who?

Because the posts on here were painting a picture of Spies as being better than Pedrosa .......... they are in fact negative towards Pedrosa and the current data we have to go on ........ even I who probably likes Spies ....... if i have to say it 2nd to Stoner, do have to be realistic about how things currently look. Any real negativity is towards fans who portray false data and make false assumptions based on wat data is available.

For the following questions what is your answer:

1. Who has won more races out of Pedrosa and Spies Since Spies has been on a factory ride? by what factor? Who therefore looks best?

2. Who has placed higher in the WC since P v's S? Who therefore looks best?

3. WHo is more liked by Repsols customers? Who therefore looks best?

Are you negative?

Are you negative?

Pedrosa won 2 races per year in his first 3 years on a factory honda, with edwards who has never won a premier class race on one of the factory yamahas for the first 2 of those years. i don't see the difference between winning one race per year and two as statistically significant.

SO your answer to

1. Who has won more races out of Pedrosa and Spies Since Spies has been on a factory ride? by what factor? Who therefore looks best?

Pedrosa 2 Spies 1 ....... they are are the same.

I just don't see it Mick ........ I'm trying real hard but I just don't see it

Thats three times this week. Did you, Mental & Steifel PM eachother for a secret meet up to circle jerk around the "American complex"?

HTF can I have "American Complex"!!??? I'm not even American!

God you guys from over where you are near have annoying traits and personalities ...........

Haga may not have won any races in GP. However, I'm not aware of Pedro's win in Wsbk.

That would be a bit to Speculative since Pedro has never been in WSBK ............... I have a good idea lets find a series in which they both may have competed and compare that!! .......... who knows, if we are lucky it might be something simillar to motogp ....... the very series about which we are contemplating the whole Spies thing .....

<
<

Failing that, I wonder how they are at dog washing?

I can't make long posts at work. What I also wanted to say is that it depends on what dani wants as well. He may not want a one year contract with hrc for 2013 to be then punted for marquez the following year, assuming stoner is again better than him this year which is an assumption. The dynamics of lorenzo and pedrosa on the same team would be interesting though.

My point was that both 1 win and 2 fall into the "not many" category for a factory rider. Dani was admittedly actually in contention for the title a good way into the 2006 season, which spies wasn't in 2011.

Dani's long history of solid achievement in motogp, 5 as undisputed hrc number one rider, without ever really looking like winning the title now may be counting against him I believe, particuarly against stoner, and marquez in the future, and even repsol might be happy to let him go to pave the way for marquez.

Dani Rookie season on Honda factory bike.

Ben Rookie season on Yamaha factory bike

Dani had twice the wins, twice the podiums, 4 poles to zero, 4 fast laps to 1. Dani is a consistent podium finisher and has been his whole career. At this point, even though i like Spies much better than Dani, his numbers dont match up. He can turn that all around this year by beating Pedrosa and running up front on a regular basis. The new tires may help him as much as anyone. His terrible starts he says were because of lack of confidence on the cold tires. That should not be as much of a concern with the new softer hoops. Plus, he is one of the best on used tires, that could serve him well on these new tires as well.

Oh you said the magic word ...... Marquez ..... not Spies. I'm wondering how folk can even think Honda would go Spies instead of Pedrosa, but Marquez, thats a different matter ......... espan-ecially since its Repsol.

But marquez cannot ride for hrc in 2013 under the current rookie rule, and it is what pedrosa and spies are going to do in 2013 that (I think) most are talking about.

BTW - if you bother to read through the thread - the only person who actually made an emphatic statement that Spies would be faster on the Honda.... was Pander - who is a Brit. Your whole premise for starting yet another divisive side thread is moot. All the Americans here are quite capable of making objective observations about who is the better rider. Doesn't stop us from liking Ben more.

I'm starting to get worried this kid is out of a career. His double vision isn't going away. Hes going to miss the unpcoming test.
