Make or break year for Spies

I speculate Pedro is 6-7ish, though its very difficult to know where he belongs given he has been on the best and very near it all 6 years (I disagree 2 out of 6), the parity between Yamaha and Honda has been very close. On top of the fact he's controlled the entire development direction all 6 years. I'd be willing to bet if he spent his time on a Duc, he'd have zero wins, if he were at Yamaha, he would have lost his seat by now (given this thread regarding Spies ' seat after one ....... year). I think Pedro's record is inflated based on having it all his way. We argee that he is one of the best, but look at the lesson from Depuniet jumping on Baustista's bike at Valencia's test. Depuniet has been a bit mired, but then again, on the rare occasion he had a decent bike, he did well. I think Pedro would have quickly gone the way of Melandri, that is to say, his confidence would have diminished if his tenure in MotoGP wasn't so sheltered. I mention all this to point out that the sheltered existence of Pedro has made us believe he's better than we think, but that's only if we ignore many lesson learned from 2011. Pedro is certainly on the top rung of world class riders, but I don't consider him an "alien" (I think the only person deserving of that is Stoner). Again, all speculation, but if we are going to ignore the lesson of 2011, then we must also say Stoner was the 4-5th best rider from 08-2010, and God knows you are not prepared to call him that now would you? That is to say, what you ride counts for a lot. Btw, no Stoner on the Honda would have made the HRC driven 800 experiment a complete and utter failure in terms of titles. Did Pedro, who formula and bike was designed with him specifically in mind pan out? Zilch. And I'd bet the farm he won't win the title in 2012 either.

You speculate that Pedro is 6-7th at best.

You dont win 3 world titles in the juniors against the likes of Stoner, Lorenzo, Dovi as an 6-7th best rider.

Also wins 3 races in his rookie year, in Haydens 6 years he won 3 races and one of them ( Assen 06 ) was given to him.

Its funny how since Estoril 2006 youve done nothing but hate on Pedro. Yeah he might be a spoilt little .... but he can ride.

As Bazza says since 06 15 wins. Hayden since 03 3 wins.......

Oh good.

Now we get to deal with the media circus aspect of Jarvis' remarks. Did Jarvis' ridiculous posturing affect Spies? Spies should be thankful he's neither Spanish nor Italian.

The seat will be Dovi's in 2013. Spies to the top CRT team.

What about Dani? He needs a seat as well and he's better than any other available rider.

How long until his new contract with HRC ends? i'm sure there will be a lot of swapping bikes in a year or two, just don't know who will go were. I'm guessing Stoner will stay in HRC as long as he can/wants to and will probably end his career there. We also have Rossi who probably thinks he's still got it once out of Ducati so he will want to give it another go with a japanese manufacturer.

Dovi is now trying to earn his Spot in factory Yammi, i expect a misterious box with a strange "Tic tac" noise comming from inside at Pedrosa's door if he gets in the way of Dovi and his seat at Yammaha.

Unfortunately for Pedrosa I don't think he will have the political/sponsor might behind him once Marquez steps into MotoGP. I suspect that he will at best get a 1 year contract whilst Marquez does his rookie year and then will end up on a satellite Honda. Unless Spies is offered the 2nd Repsol Honda in 2013 which will see Pedrosa go to the satellite Honda a year earlier.

I think Spies still has to give and i'm confident that he will show what he truly has this year. He's a fast rider for sure. If he doesn't have a good year I can see Dovi or Cal taking his seat...depending on their individual results.

Im pretty sure just about all the top riders contracts are up after this year.

Stoner

Pedrosa

Rossi

Hayden

Lorenzo

Spies

I personally believe they will all stay on their current machine.

bit early for silly season eh?

Never to early for silly season.Thats why they call it " silly" .

Dude....... Honda and Yamaha doesn't want Rossi anymore. If he wants a Japanese ride, his best bet is Suzuki, and bring in sponsorship money, ALOT. Other then that, I don't see where he's going.........his career is at an end, due to his ego.

Do you really think he wanted that Ducati ride? Or was it his last option? Think.

He could have quite easily back tracked and stayed at Yamaha, or never gave Yamaha an ultimatum in the first place. Think he wanted to be an Italian on a Italian bike to be honest, whether he regrets that dream now who knows ?

And to carry on the original subject, In my opinion, literally the only guy Yamaha could get to be as good as Lorenzo is Stoner, them 2 are head and shoulders in front of everyone else at the minute. If Ben Spies was at Repsol, he would be closer to Stoner than Pedro is. So it's probably hot air from Mr Jarvis trying to scare Ben into pushing himself further.

I'm not being optimistic towards Rossi, i doubt you will ever find me that way.

But he probably will try & stirr some .... up with the Japs if he can't get anything done with the Duc & honestly hope both Yammi and Honda tell him off if he ever does.

As far as him wanting the move towards Ducati, I think Stoner gave the same false sense of security to Rossi than he did to Ducati. So Valentino probably thought he could ride it as fast as Stoner, or even better, make it a better bike and ride it even faster. Deep inside he knew there was a huge risk factor but his ego (the same one you were talking about) was probably enough, to make him forget about it enough, to make the decision.

Just my point of view though.

Anyone thinking, that this talk by Lin Jarvis may be the start of indicating that there may be some bridge building going on from the Yamaha side as well ? I'm beginning to wonder?

Perhaps Rossi does have an option?

I think the bridge is coming along nicely too. Praising Yamaha:

“The turning of Yamaha is still better, because I think it is the best bike for that." – Valentino Rossi, Sepang test.

To be honest, it would be a huge u turn for Rossi, but I agree, there may just be a wee chance at Yam for him. Honda, no way, you don't leave Honda and go back. But, the Yamaha thing might just be a goer. I don't see why Yamaha would touch Pedrosa, he's had it his own way at Honda for years, and got made to look second hand by Stoner. Stranger things have happened................

i guess if pedrosa is shown the door at honda he will not make a lot of demands and will be happy to race a yamaha, even without the bike built around him and a big salary.because its really the only way to keep his career going and chasing that world title

i can't see rossi returning to yamaha to be on equal terms with jorge, let alone #2 .

i don't really agree that pedrosa was shown to be a second rate rider , i'm eagerly looking forward to a injury free season from perdro on the same bike as casey

i actually agree spies would be good on the honda, probably better than dani. But I think dani might be very good on the yamaha, or as it was anyway, as a sorted corner speed bike. He only ever seemed to be completely happy with the honda a few times a year, and was nigh on unbeatable on those occasions, but mostly was unhappy with chatter, the engine being too raw etc. It seems likely he would have been happy with the yamaha most of the time.

you know the question is, can pedrosa deliver more than what we have seen so far?i agree that he has not delivered and that his seat must be questioned , but then again the "but ifs" you know.

ban puig from his garage, let him be a little lucky when it comes to crashes and i see him challenging for the title

and you can't let a rider like that go

Pedrosa is the Spanish Haga - minus likeability.

IMO, this is all about Lin Jarvis playing games, no more and no less as for Spies position to be genuinely threatened then there is likel a decision already made or great pressure being applied from sources to changet he makeup in the team (ie. does Dovi come with big $?)

Spies has perfromed acceptably well (again, IMO) for a rider who has not had a large level of international experience nor time on the MGP scene. His performances have been during his tenure better than many a rider whom had a longer career in the paddock,.

No, for mine, if this is a serious comment by Jarvis and is to be taken at face value then there woudl seem to be ulterior motives as Spies has achieved a great deal within teh sport during his short time and so to make these utterances are for a reason.

Gaz

My guess is, that in the current ...... economy, Jarvis is angling for a European rider in 2012 who can bring along more sponsorship money. Always follow the money.

Excuse the cliche - but.... that's what I'm talkin' about!

Rossi makes his comeback with Suzuki. They're probably in secret talks right now.
