well the question is why 1 year deal not 2 years deal hemm..... maybe after 2010 season if rossi still remain in motogp than lorenzo maybe go to ducati next year and stoner???...... or if rossi go to F1 then lorenzo will be yamaha next....

here some news from MCN.com

Jorge Lorenzo has rejected a multi-million pound deal to join Ducati and will stay with Valentino Rossi in Yamaha’s official factory team. The 22-year-old, who currently sits second in the MotoGP world championship, has signed a new one-year deal after protracted negotiations with Yamaha that have dragged on since the winter. Lorenzo’s future had been the subject of intense recent speculation with Ducati intensifying its pursuit of the Spaniard in recent weeks, but he will remain with Yamaha, as was first reported by MCN at the British MotoGP race in July. Walking away from the best bike in MotoGP proved too much of a wrench for the double world 250GP champion, who was offered a two-year deal to join Ducati worth close to £15m. Lorenzo is understood to have accepted a salary over 50 per cent less than what Ducati and Marlboro had offered to ensure he remained on a factory YZR-M1. I am very happy!" said Lorenzo. "Today is a good day because I have decided to remain with the Yamaha Factory Team in 2010. It was a very important decision and that's why I have had to take the last few weeks to make it, but I think that this is the best decision for me in this moment. I want to thank Yamaha because they have always done everything that they have promised, and I especially would like to say thank you to Lin Jarvis and Masao Furusawa." Lorenzo’s decision ends the hopes of Dani Pedrosa, Nicky Hayden or Colin Edwards of securing the coveted slot next to eight-times world Rossi. Pedrosa was understood to be delaying signing his Repsol Honda contract until Lorenzo had decided his future with the triple world champion keen on a move to ride a factory YZR-M1. Hayden was also a leading contender with any Ducati deal for Lorenzo leaving the 2006 world champion frozen out of the Bologna factory squad. And had Lorenzo jumped to Ducati in a shock move, Yamaha had also admitted to considering moving Texan Edwards back to its factory team. The outcome of Lorenzo’s decision is likely to mean that Pedrosa will now go ahead and finalise his new two-year deal with HRC after Honda management confirmed at the last race in Brno that a ‘basic agreement’ had been reached for next season. Hayden is now likely to be given another year to show he can master Ducati’s fickle Desmosedici alongside Casey Stoner, with Ducati poised to exercise an early September option on the Kentucky rider. The future is less clear for double World Superbike champion Edwards though. He is still waiting to learn whether compatriot Ben Spies will make a MotoGP switch in 2010. Should Spies opt to quit World Superbikes after a sensational rookie campaign, Edwards could be forced out of the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 despite the 35-year-old enjoying his best ever MotoGP campaign.

Wise move. No harm done in signing for another year, it gives him a second chance to give VR a go. Either way he will demand a higher salary than what has been offered, when negotiating this time next year.

So all he was ever doing was bidding up Yamaha.

Now Ducati has to patch up the relationship with Casey or they are shot ducks (pun haha) for 2010.
I know Casey can be difficult at times, but Ducati has been very foolish leaking stories about Caseys sponsorship responsibilities and eating habits. I almost hope he gets signed up by Honda for 2010. It seems as if there is no brand loyalty anymore anyway as I,ve read Jumkie is selling his ducati. Still happening?? Oh you fickle fans!

If he can beat Rossi next year then he can ask for bigger pay or renegotiate with HRC. Honda bike should improve by 2011. He knows even Stoner cannot ride the Duke anymore.

although i thought he would re-sign for yamaha, its a pity he didnt go to ducati. the teams could use a bit of a shakeup....if only to create some new conspiracy theories, the old ones are getting REALLY old.

ha. 1 yr its kept us all busy with the silly season banter.

so 1 yr then does horney become fiat N0-1.

Vale to ferrari.

then there will be more contracts to look at.

all 2010 rookies.wont be rookies anymore.lots to come this time next year who's going where etc

I actually thought that the money would get the better of Lorenzo. Guess i was wrong.
He will stay another year and then do the exact same thing again. Playing the different teams off each other.

Guess that means the Ducati team will be staying the same for 2010.

Who knows? Ducati would now seem to be short of options if casey does not return, and must have thought they had a strong chance of hiring lorenzo to make such a strong public play for him. Perhaps lorenzo was waiting on an indication as to when rossi might retire.

funny how mcn reported a while back that lorenzo was leaving yam. they reported that as fact and i said it was bs because it was to early for a rider to make such a thing known if they wanted team support. now they report he is staying

To the editor of mcn (Adam Duckworth ?). you sir are full of ..... You make it up to sell your rag thats not worth wiping my arse with. You can get more facts from the daily sport ... paper than mcn. it was a good paper until emap took it over. ......s.

why one year you ask?
..cause the 990 will be back 2010 is why... crazy Jorge is crazy not stupid... stay on the bike that God and Buda built... then jump on the rc211v...also the bike God and Buda built

It would appear to be true, as a Yamaha press release on the Moto Gp site, is more reliable then any MCN concoction.

A very good move by Horney Lorenzo, he can spend another year learning from the master.

I reckon he's spent the last couple of weeks reading this site to help make up his mind.

Been reading it since I was 15yrs old, afraid I now have to agree with Rog too.

A weak 50-50 compromise to avoid/postpone any real decision.
Lorenzo has panicked...

Now, the interesting thing is what Stoner will do.
