Lorenzo injured..

Love the bit about "riding a motocross bike as part of his pre-season preparations". As opposed to "dicking about on a trail bike" I suppose.
<

Mind you it's less embarrassing than falling through a glass table as an off-season accident. Possibly more painful though!

Get well soon, Jorge.

its quite a mystery to me why some/all riders take lots of risks with 'training' during the offseason. I know, they're on a break, deserve some fun bla bla. but as a rider you have responsibilities, right? iirc they werent allowed to go skiing, but why would they be allowed to do this kind of training? if I were the teammanager (maybe zeelenberg reads this) Id ask my riders not to train with those bikes. how many riders have messed up their season in the past before it even started???? there must be other ways to train themselfs with less risks

Bad luck for Jorge, considering he's not exactly a "quick" learner. Hope he can get over that soon, he can't afford to give his "teammate" much advantage!

yeah crashing is very good preperation

there most be some other things they can do to get that type of practice. like why not do it on simulation-machine things where pillows are on the floor to break their fall if they crash? something like that
<
professionality.... thats key imo

A lot of fans dont realize how much feedback from riding a dirt bike crosses over into road racing. They can do anything to stay in shape, but fine tuning your "bike senses" is as important as keeping in shape, and nothing keeps your "bikes senses" sharp as riding a dirt bike on the edge.

agreed! very much
<
but the risk of actually doing it... why not do those things that can simulate reality? nasa trains space- pilots that way too. may cost a few bucks but at least there is no risk of injuries

I'm sure they would love to take away the risk but IFAIK there is no such thing as even a remotely usable motorbike simulator. As we know the games are ok to learn tracks and stuff but for actual racing skills it's absolutely ..........

This could wreck Lorenzo's early season, when you look at other riders who have accidents pre season , many tend to struggle in the first few races.

technology is endless. Im sure some scientist can create something if he/she gets money to do so

Jorge Lorenzo injures hand in training accident

Fiat Yamaha Team rider Jorge Lorenzo has undergone surgery in his right hand following an accident whilst training near his home in Barcelona yesterday, Thursday 11th February.

The 22-year-old was riding his motocross bike at the practice course near Montmeló during a routine training session as part of his pre-season preparation. He fell in a slow corner, doing approximately <span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%30km/h, and hurt his right hand as he landed.

He was taken immediately to the Capio Hospital General de Catalunya and found to have a fracture at the base of the first metacarpal and a displaced thumb. Dr. Augusto J. Casanovas made an open reduction and osteosynthesis with a small titanium plate. Lorenzo will require hand protection for four to six weeks.

The Spaniard is leaving the hospital this morning and will return to his home in Barcelona to recuperate. He will not participate in the next Sepang test but he is expected to make a full recovery in time for the final pre-season test at Qatar in March.

Risk doing 30km/hr?
<

It's more like bad luck and shows no one ever knows!

so? we all know that motocross has more risk than only the speed... I just think it could be more professionaly done to have that kind of training

can't see this setting Horney back too much
They all do it.Vale inc
he's says he never stops training during the season

Q. What have you been doing during the off-season? How much training and how much holidaying?

Valentino RossiValentino Rossi: If my time during winter was 100, let's say 50/50 between holiday and training. I went to the mountains with my friends and I snowboarded with them, which is my favourite winter sport. My training during the winter break is very different than the standard one during the MotoGP season. Anyway, I have never stopped training, otherwise it would be very much difficult to start riding again this year.

Q. How do you prepare for a new season? Is it more important to work on your fitness these days?

VR: Training has become more and more important, because MotoGP bikes are more and more difficult to be ridden and you need power and resistance for the 45 minutes of the race. You also have to get to the new season start in the best possible shape. At the gym, my training is pretty normal, with weights, but I always try to ride motocross or supermotard bikes at the "cava", in order to not lose the feeling with the throttle.

yeah Ive read that too a while a go. first thought I had was 'hmm not very wise huh'

guess Im on my own with this one...

iirc footballplayers arent allowed to do certain things that have a high injury risk. so its not weird to either say dont do it, or to have a simulation of the activity. Im sure scientists can make it really realistic with the smell of dirt+bikes etc during the simulation
<

Injuries are a part of training. Look at how many American Football players are lost for the season during pre season training. They know that game shape is different than just being in shape so its full contact practice and let the chips fall where they may.
