I'm just surprised a lot of people haven't noticed before now?

well i suppose you new of his talent because you followed his career ,but non fans tend to judge by what they see and casey didnt show a lot before this season, infact last year it was debated weather or not he was good enough to be racing in the premier class, its just a pitty people like yourself didnt discover this site last season so you could have defended him and educated us about how talented he is.

are you kidding me??? he didnt show anything before this season????

what bike was he running last year? what budget did he have in LCR??

look at what checa is doing at LCR this year. Stoner came 8th overall not bad for a single entry satellite bike. where is LCR this year without stoner??? have they even score a point??

yes he crashed alot in 2006, but when you are on a substandard bike and low budget team, you have to ride 110% just to keep up with the pace.

look at rossi this year, he has made many many mistakes, running wide many times and even crashing. why? because just to keep up with stoner he has to ride over his limit. in previos years he was never pushed, so never made mistakes and never crahsed.

Also in 250 and 125 stoner was riding sub standard bike.

this year if you take Stoner out of the equation, you would have valentino leading the championship by 20 points and dominating. just like he would of in the other championships he has won.

also if not for stoner, ducati would still of been in the middle of the field, just like the previos 4 years and no one would be complaining about thier better top speed. ducati always had better top speed but no one complian before.

1. He showed plenty of promise and talent last year but there is no excuse for that many crashes, especially not when they are all of the same type. Stoner didn't have to crash his bike, he just tried to ride it too fast.

2. No he wasn't

3. They had argually the best bike in 2006 (I think Nicky's Honda was better) and were championship contenders.

Well Hayden has had a bad time this season, he is underporming and has taken too long to get used to the new kit, no matter how good it might not be.

Rossi is making more errors than i expected also, he isn't the all powerful rider he used to be and Stoner has forced him to raise his game. The mistakes we have seen from Rossi are part of the reason i think Casey is better than him this season.

i think rossi is a great rider, but best ever?? no i dont think so. he would won 2007 championship if not for Stoner. it would of been a typical year for rossi. win easily over 20 point margin. but not this year. not ever again.

i think rossi rode in an era without much competition. the closest competition was biaggi

The only way to rate a rider is by how much better he is than his competition. Its not a case of Rossi riding against nobodies, its just that he made them appear as noboddies because he was so good. If Rossi wasn't around we may have found ourselfes calling Gibernau and Biaggi the new Rainey and Schwantz.

lets face it rossi he never beat doohan. yes rossi is a GREAT rider.

but stoner is here and he has beaten the best, but doesnt get the credit he deserves. he has comprehensively beaten his team mate.

cant ask for much more.

and the bosses at ducati wouldnt call someone a "genius" if he wernt a special rider.

Rossi has to lose eventually and it will take Casey a long time to rack up a record worhty of comparison. I am not trying to take anything away from Stoner, you might find i give him quite a lot of credit for what he has done this year. However he hasn't even won a single world championship and a lot of people are getting ahead of themselfes.

NO TOMMY WERE JUST STATING THE INEVITABLE IN 2007!!! And the rest will just happen if Casey is going to be good enough!!! And I think HE WILL BE!!!...If Ducati will NOT SPOIL THE PARTY WITH Melandri!!!

yeah 7 races is alot more chances for stoner to extend his lead. Get this ffrom me stoner will extend his lead. end of season it will be prob 70 point lead.

It only took Nicky 4 years to get used to the 990s...so I say he's on his normal schedule for getting used to the 800s (NH 2011 800cc champ?)

exactly!

Cant help but wonder how many of stoner's "biggest fans" had rossi as a favourite for years and then hayden last year

rossi is the exception though as probably if rossi hadnt been in moto gp for so long we would have had 3/4 different world champions, i dont think it means if he wasnt around and gibernau was he would have had the success

As a rossi fan i am able to appreciate that stoner is a good rider with or without all the other factors and he is doing incredible this season.
However, just because he has beaten the best in races this season doesnt mean he now is the best. Rossi has one thing above him ... consistency...about ten years of it x

i dont really see how u can make comparisons from different eras...
Agostini has amazing records yet he did most of it on the best machinery when other riders had much esser developed bikes.
I think its daft to compare across generations.

i never been a hayden fan. most people do beleive he was LUCKY to win in 2006. rossi just too many mechanical/bike problems.

nicky was the most consistant and deserved to win, but rarely won races or was the fastest.

nicky knew this thats why he was shattered after pedrosa crashed into him. he knew his one and only shot at the title ever had gone., untill rossi did something even more stupid in the final race.

man... you Rossi haters just keep trying to put him down.....i dont see anyone else talking bad about stoner....so stop talking sht about a seven times champ.

and pedrosa beat him square in the 125s and 250s. Stoner just had nothing for him on same tires. and dont use this machinery crap cause they were fairly equal. give pedrosa bridstones and he will be up there with stoner again.. stoner is doing great but so is his machine and tires... cappi is on his way down. stoner on his way up.

Thats only because Doohan finished before Rossi entered.

I don't rate Doohan he won all 5 championships with the best team of that Era.

At least Rossi went and did the unthinkable and won first championship for Yamaha for many years.

You dont rate Doohan? Then im afraid youve just exposed your lack of knowledge.. Doohan won his championships as a virtual cripple due to his various injuries and bad luck which were a result of riding the violent and extremely sensitive 2-stroke 500's.. Rossi's won a 500cc title, sure, but hes had some of the best luck any rider could ever want..

Luck is one of his skills.
