Marquez is a shark--a fantastic creature perfected for it purpose and compelled by nature when it smells blood. Marc's instinct when faced with a win is simply primal. We've seen some amazing single laps by Marquez, just as recently as Silverstone pole, but this last lap, in these conditions, with the backdrop of what is on the line, i just feel fortunate to be watching.
It must also be mentioned, but im fascinated that many who were in attendance, experiencing the conditions first hand, watching the drama unfold, and supposedly there at some level to witness an appreciation and understanding of 'motorcycle racing' ( frankly unique in motorsport) would see this last lap with their own eyes, then with similar primal instinct except in reverse, run out to the podium ceremony in part to execute what their nature demanded, to boo, jeer, and express their disaproval to the thrill of motorcycling excelence they just witnessed moments before.
Actually, we dont need to look much further than this forum to see a window into this mindset, every time MissAngel makes an appearance it's something of an aperture into this unique cult mentality, exemplified by today's audible cheers when Lorenzo crashed. The sound engineers didnt even have to manipulate the sound mix as the chorus by the spectators was loud enough to drown out the exhaust note and commentators' voice. Commentators who usually make a point of alerting us of the sound mixer's cue that Rossi has just done something we should approve.
Dovi & Vinalez were smart to take the points. After seeing Moto2/3 it was the right bet. I should also ask, how many riders must crash before Race Indiscretion deems the conditions unsafe?
Other mentionables, this was a great opportunity for Lorenzo which he threw away. He should pray for rain again, ah the irony. Loris Baz deserves to be in MotoGP, a man who quietly goes about his business. Despite the crash, his effort up to that point was commendable. Zarco pushing his bike across the finish line was great. Michelin in most races continues to be detrimental to Pedrosa, wet or dry. I expected more from Miller today. i cant be sympathetic to Lowes, he really needed to finish, but it's looking like despite Hack Oxley's typical pro-pagand, he just cant ride for the bloke from the seat of his keyboard.
Well done to Petrux. He looked like his dog had just died in parc ferme. He did the best he could. He was a fish today in the wet, but there was a shark in the water.
