Gran Premio Red Bull de España - Jerez 2022

An aside: I wonder exactly what pain meds rider are allowed to use. Asking for a friend.
I expect it would be similar to the national regs.
No opioids or anything that would be any fun. Anything that would make your piss sample pop hot/makes you play slide guitar is a no no.
They even banned most anti-inflammatory pills.

No, hell no.
This is Günther Wiesinger. He is a notorious liar.
Speedweek has a couple of ok journos, but not him.

For the record : Jarvis is stating he is hopeful. Nothing more. This of course translates into a Wiesingee done deal headline. I am honestly surprised he didnt write Stefan Bradl or Toni Mang into that seat.
The comments below every Wiesinger are always perfection, this dude is hated.
I hope its not all BS though, I need raz to be beaten by rea a couple of times if I want to sleep well

My thoughts thus far. Despite having his nut sac squashed by a Michelin, once again Fabs carries the torch for Yamaha. Frankie under whelms and is not the same since butchering his knee. His mind ain't right. RNF is a joke.

Dani taking Marc back to the pits was awesome.

Amy Reynolds is insufferable to listen to. Crafar basically saying Maverick's desire/effort is waning. Can't say I disagree. Maybe fatherhood is playing a role?

Marc? 19th? Troubling times at HRC.

I think Fab's race pace will be too much for anyone to match. A Suzuki will be on the podium.......................unless they're not.

Where's Jack? And Zarco for that matter.

Is this the guy who said Kymiring GP was toast, only to have the GPC say a few days later that the event was going ahead?

Tbh not even sure, I can promise you he is most notorious for his style of reporting. I use speedweek myself, like i said there are other good journos there. But good ol'Krop linking a wiesinger is like reading something in the china studies referencing something they picked up in a George Foreman grill infomercial. Unexpected.
+ that animal crossing avatar? Krop is losing control

"Yeah, and then Marquez waited for a minute on the back straight. Dude was looking to catch a tow from Espargaros Aprilia"

"Krop promotes Günther Wiesinger"

"I can't wait to see the inlaws again"

This timeline is ......

Fabs on well-used tires was doing mid 37s. Marc on used tires was mid 38s. Marc needed a tow to get to Q2. That bike is ......

As my British friends might say, tomorrow should be a proper ding-dong. Can Pecco run consistently mid 37s for the race?

Well, tomorrow is going to be interesting.

The Suzuki riders nearly eliminated themselves from contention in qualifying. Rins couldn't make Q2, and Mir chucked it down the road. The bike is not fantastic in qualifying trim, but they gotta do better than that. Suzuki will be praying for scorching temps and direct sunlight, imo. Maybe they can run medium while everyone else runs hard. Rins is most likely going to lose the championship lead, but by how much? Looks like it could be about 15 points.

Martin and Bastianini also managed to crash at an inopportune moment. Race pace throughout the grid is too close to assume 4-5 positions can be picked up early in the race.......but you never know.

Darth Puig apparently has instructed M Marquez to use the Iran-strategy. If we can't win, make sure everyone else loses and suffers. Marc has blocked more people and sipped on slipstream more than any weekend I can remember.

Based on the free practice pace of the riders behind him, Maverick is going to lose about 4-5 places tomorrow morning. Hope I'm wrong. We don't need more talented riders failing to achieve, but it doesn't look great.

Jack and Pecco did well. Miller is not happy, but one of them will surely be the high scorer tomorrow? Notching their first manufacturers points for Ducati.

Not sure about this, but I think whoever manages to be in front of Aleix at Dry Sac on lap 1 will have a chance to win. Aleix will have elbows out, and it could be difficult to get by as everyone finds a rhythm.

I love Martins grit. Fighter.
An extra half of whatever it is you measure traction with and Marquez leaves Miller in the rear view mirror.
That Hondas drive out the corner is atrocious

Lap times worse by .5 for everyone now. Tyres gone? Pecco to fold in the next few laps?

Aleix looks best of the chasing group. Something tells me he won't hesitate to pull a Marquez in Lorenzo corner

Haven't seen a save like that in the race by Marc for a while.
Coming good. The bike needs to also.
The winner is back. Faultless ride. [emoji41]

I wanna add that stonereseque line he painted in the fast left.
I am 100% convinced now that it is exclusicely right turns which are a problem for him.
Watch him win PI and the sexyring

Aprilia coming good after 7 years. On one hand, I thought them measuring up to HRC, Yamaha and Ducati this soon was too big an ask. But then, the days when Aprilia, for years, dominated the 250 class are not that long ago. It'd be a pisser if they took a first championship before Ducati took a 2nd one. For tech-geeks, this is a golden age.

Totally crazy watching Marquez struggle so hard for edge grip. Pffft...

Well done to Aprilia, but I wouldn’t underestimate the value of the concessions; I am sure Honda would find them handy currently. It is hard to believe they could stuff up their bike so badly for so long. They seem to have gone from a difficult bike only MM could win on to a difficult bike not even he can win on, with him probably not majorly to blame for the current bike given he was hors de combat for much of the development period.

FQ is more impressive to me this year than last year, perfect ridden race in which Bagnaia only just had the beating of him when no one else can get a Yamaha into the top 10.

As someone said earlier in the season Ducati’s challenge appears rather diffuse/poorly organised, but if Bagnaia is back and can go on a winning run for several races as he did last year he could quickly get back in it I guess, although I suspect FQ will ride consistently well all season.

Entertaining race despite Pecco leading from flag to flag. He rode a flawless race, and I'm happy to see another talent re-enter the competitive fray.

Solid ride by Quartararo. He was ahead of all the current championship challengers. He did what was necessary to stay close to Bagnaia, hoping for an opportunity to make a move, but Pecco made no mistakes. Fabio finishes second, but so what? He already has a win, and he just put more daylight between himself and Aleix.

Miller had an awesome ride, too. He rode peerless point-and-shoot. Neither Marc or Aleix had anything on him in a braking zone. Think about that. Marquez could not pass Jack into Lorezno. That's mind bending. Miller was the wide bike (not Aleix) on race day, but it was pure skill and setup that kept Marc and Aleix behind. Jack deserved a podium, but that's racing as they say.

Marquez' pass on Jack was legend-level riding. No way through in the braking zones. He practiced that pass about 5 laps prior by squaring the exit of turn 2, and then carrying speed all they way to Turn 5. Master class. The save in Turn 12 was the icing on the cake. Unfortunate, he was off the podium, but the Honda is not quite ready to challenge.

Aleix deserves a lot of credit for a great ride. His felonious mugging of Jack Miller into the final corner was not to my liking, but Espargaro had better pace, and there wasn't really another option. Miller was too strong. Dive bomb was the only option, even if it was a gruesome thing to behold. Plus, fate will probably intervene. Espargaro's podium has cut off Aprilia's concessions. Rather than spending money on Aleix, they will be plowing money into engine development and simulation equipment, since they will be losing engines and testing advantages.

The rest of the field was a choke fest. Rins and Mir bungled, with Rins managing to lose 20 points to Quartararo. Much worse than expected. Vinales had one of the worst starts of his career. He lost 8 places at one point, I think. KTM had nothing, despite telling the public the bike was designed for high grip circuits in Europe. Apparently that was gaslighting to keep Red Bull involved? The satellite Ducatis were a comedy of errors.

It'd be a pisser if they took a first championship before Ducati took a 2nd one.

Embarrassing at least, but somehow Ducati has asked for this throwing all their efforts on the bike and forgetting about a tiny detail that makes the most difference: the rider.

Mgt issues as always inside an italian company.

But if Aprilia has taken so much time to develop a competitive machine with a bunch of concessions, let alone now as a common factory :spin:

Glad to see Fabio not push too hard and throw away 20 points. Pecco was flawless, it was his day. Great ride by Aleix and fun-to-watch battle with Marc & Jack. Jack rode his arse off.
Martin with yet another crash. I'd say he's got his Crutchlow impersonation down pat.

Suzuki's like a box of chocolates.......
KTM, meh. Same for the other 3 Yamahas.
