Estoril 2012: RACE

I get that he said he wasn't comfortable to push - but (not to be pedantic) that's not the same as saying it was his plan to disappear.

Hence why I put "check-out" in quotes - that was my editorialising. Casey said something like, "my usual pace" or "the pace I wanted to ride at".

Like I said, he and Pedro were just managing to tag along. I do believe Stoner would have pushed harder if the need was there. He spent the better part of his seasons on the Ducati in a state of saves and near-crashes in order to be competitive.

His crew chief said that last year, that he had never pushed the honda like he had to push the ducati, even in races he didn't win, his season strategy being different now he was on a bike like the honda. If you didn't push the ducati it didn't work anyway, of course.

I think lorenzo is not in a position requiring win it or bin it as yet, in fact binning it and giving stoner 25 points on him might actually precipitate that situation, given that stoner made basically zero race riding errors last year. Jorge was leading the championship going into this race and is still only 1 point behind.

Did anyone notice that the telecast went away from the leaders with a couple of laps to go, to concentrate on a battle for 8th. During this time, we did not get to witness a rider being lapped. Coincidence?

You mean when Stoner, Lorenzo and Pedrosa lapped the CRT on the main straight?

I don't know who provides your race coverage, but MotoGP.com were all over it, as were the commentators...

I saw Petrucci getting lapped. As he was the only rider being lapped, I don't know what exactly you are talking about.

Maybe not. I see your point but at the time the battle for 8th was the ONLY thing going on really. Let's put it this way - if Petrucci buggered up and slowed Casey down enough for George to catch up do ya think they would've replayed it?

Stoner is the best I’ve seen in 40 years of following this sport. His skill his tenacity his true grit of extracting, adjusting and giving it all irrespective of the odds or the adversities and this is especially with the tremendous talent that fills the motogp field

I suggest you re-aquaint yourself with some footage of Wayne Rainey

There's the answer. I had the ESPN coverage and only saw what Pov saw. But if official mgp.com showed it conspiracy over!!

Nicky's Tweet:

"Crap race. Electronic problem. Bike thought it was on a diff part of track then it really was so electronics worked in all the wrong places.

Basically full power in the middle of some corners, no power and lots traction on some straights, no engine break for corners."

So Ducati have started messing with Nicky's bike in order to bump Rossi up a spot in the final standings. First blue smoke, now this!

BTW - I gotta get me some of whatever the penguin's on!!!!

Outstanding!!! Watch this space - I now feel the urge to produce a venn diagram illustrating todays tyre choice to compliment my Gantt chart I've produced for Ducati.

I will leave the fancy stuff for you - all I can do is add things up on Excel... I'm working on subtraction next week when I move on to Chapter 5... hopefully in time for Le Mans!

Which I think supports the perception that Stoner is working a more conservative strategy. If he was trying not to over-stress his arm - I don't think he'd necessarily mention it in an interview as he must be sick and tired of being queried about his health issues. I for one am so tired of hearing Gavin Emmet trying to create drama during the commentating by mentioning arm pump every 15 seconds. Really annoying.

You were watching Speed Channel?

Man, I'm tryin'... I've bounced the noggin of the tarmac a few times (lid on!), a couple of solid smacks by booms on racing yachts (no lid!) - even fell off an escarpment about 50'. I still can't reach that level of stoopid!
