Estoril 2012: RACE

Yamaha need Stoner

Stoner will be worth a mint.

Niangala School will get some electrickity with there compooterer!

Bit of a boring race really.

I'd prefer Stoner checked out. At least he would put on a show.

Dovi has a picture of a mouse on the back of his helmet.

Magestic ride by Stoner under pressure.

Thanks to Lorenzo for making it a race for us again.

Pedrosa as usual showed he isn't a WC material, as long as a few competetive riders ride beside him.

Unfortunatly Crutchlow wasn't able to chase Dovi till the end, i hoped he would beat him to the line.

What happend to Hayden? he was better than this in the last few races.

Not bad but nothing especial from Rossi.

What the hell is going on with Spies? Why is he struggling so much in 2012? Some thought he would find it easier to ride the 1000's.

I think that's a move that's no longer in his repertoire. Save the tires and keep Lorenzo maddeningly close always pulling away at the last second (if needed). Not only is he saving his tires by riding more conservatively but he's conserving his arm. IMHO.

+1

its good to see ben fighting, same goes for rossi

we'll see both of them return to form sooner than later, especially spies. don't want to take anything away from crtuch/dovi, but i think spies is the next best rider after the top 3

Congrats to Stoner. His strategy of managing the gap and then pulling pin on last laps has worked twice. Its now his championship to lose. Having won at the two tracks that are Lorenzo gimmies means the title is basically over barring any mishaps. Honda acceleration makes it difficult to pass him. He seemed happier than I've seen him since his lat year at PI. Waving to fans and pulling wheelies.

Lorenzo, good race but weak strategy. Twice beaten by not attempting passes or to bother Stoner. Getting beat at his two gimmie tracks to Stoner's one means his best hope is to come a close second in the title barring any mishap by Stoner. No attempts to pass might be attributed to Honda acceleration. But even still, once he was within a tenth, showing a wheel might help. From my vantage point sitting comfortably on my lazy boy, it seemed it was a weak race strategy to hope Stoner would drop off.

Pedro will never be good enough despite being on the best machine....again.

Dovi, finally gets aggressive and beats Cal.

Cal, good finish again, only his second time on the track. Brits start buying your tix for home GP.

Bautista, still overrated, Honda making him look good. And even then he can't beat the Yamaha sats. Weak. Nice hair though.

Spies, he is ....... Total disappointment.

Rossi, well done, to fnish at the best finishing order Ducati can aspire to. I wonder if getting Nicky's settings was achieved by simply trading bikes in the garage...

Barbera, even though he beat a sick under the whether Nicky, he still sucks.

Nicky, tough ride, .... weekend, .... bike, not sure if they solved the smoking problem since I didn't see any camera shots other than the start.

Espargaro, not sure how to judge being top CRT. If the finishing order of the "prototypes" is strictly reflective of the sorted nature of the bike, what makes it any different for CRTs? Plus DePuniet was riding hurt, and no Edwards.

Depuniet, gutsy ride to battle with Espargaro while a bit banged up and hurt.

Abraham, it hurts to see this guy struggle. He deserves better. .... bike, the worse "prototype" on the grid no doubt. fFor the amount of money, he should negotiate a contract with a Honda. No points so far on a bike that was already .... last year.

Final thoughts...Good job to the track. Lowered prices and gave people something to cheer about, and the crowed responded by showing up. Well done.

Pretty dissapointing race for me as a fan, but a superb ride from Stoner. I wonder if he's toying with Lorenzo, I mean it's going classic now - firtst give the guy hope and then ruthlessly take it away. Good job.

I think it is down to tyres as well. He was wont to do a runner on the old bridgestone hard rear both because he knew it would last till the end, and because pushing that tyre was actually necessary to keep it at operating temperature. He has now won two races in a row on a soft rear though, so he seems to have eliminated his only weakness, since hitherto jorge and dani could last till the end on that tyre on circuits which suited it and he couldn't. Perhaps the warm- up heroics were to show what he could do if he had no need for tyre preservation.

I am not sure all is revealed as yet, because I think he was still on the soft compound variant of the stiff carcass bridgestone. We will have to see what happens on tracks which suit the new 2012 bridgestone he apparently doesn't like.

Everyone better look out. With Stoner being so strong on these last 2 tracks, it could get ugly. Not only did he win, he controlled the action at will on tracks that historically he just hoped to hold serve. Lucky for the field, he is not 3-0 to start the season, with some of his better tracks coming up. I think we are seeing a new DORNA friendly Stoner. One who is keeping it close enough for the " bored fan" to have hope of someone beating him, but able to pull a couple of tenths any time he wants to keep a safe enough distance not to allow any kind of bonzai move on him for the pass. This could be his most dominant year.

I think that held true of Jerez but not Estoril. Lorenzo never had what it needed this weekend, Looks like Casey was doing whatever it took to not let him too near.

I think, as Keshav said, it is his strategy to deal with the arm pump.
