de Puniet (finally) breaks something.

....... ...... Why do these riders take these risks in the breaks. Haystack ...... his foot up in the x games last year and im sure there's been several examples over the years.

AT least it was a "training" accident.

Yeah on a motocross bike, Seriously what meaningful training can a gp racer get from an mx bike ?

Betcha it will train his mind not to do motocross between races.

That's the same question I had the year Hopper broke both his ankles doing stunt jumps in the off season which caused Suzuki to lose the entire preseason testing they needed from their star rider.

It's easily accessible motorbike training. You don't need to reserve a track, just go to your mX friends' private tracks or use the manufacturers test tracks. It keeps the mind sharp and it's a tremendous workout. It makes a lot of sense, why else would so many riders do it?

I hope RdP heals up soon, he was just starting to get his consistency to where it needs to be to deserve a good satellite ride.

Alot actually bro. I'd say its the best training you can get both physically and technically. Its very demanding and the dirt allows you to understand riding with limited traction.

BTW, I new the following was true, but it just hit me when I read this:
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>de Puniet is currently the leading satellite Honda rider with eighth place How times have changed. Oh well, if he doesn't get his ankle heal up, he will probably drop a few positions. But then again, Elias also ran hurt, broken femur as I recall.

Because there adrenalin junkies and this is a quick fix. Motocross is well know as a high risk sport. There has to be safer ways to keep your mind sharp ect. Besides, how much will you loose in just 3 weeks ? a lot of riders just holiday like the rest of us. There have been photos of rossi taking his break in Ibiza and he stays sharp.

That wouldn't have been in 06 and 07 would it

Rossi himself did a bit of offroad riding in the early 08 break, didn't he?

I agree with you Austin,it was looking like coming good for Randy.Lets hope he can battle this.

well not in this case it didn't. he has a busted ankle. A lot of riders have clauses written into there contracts about such exploits i believe.

He isn't normal and doesn't count. That guy can spend his breaks driving rally and F1 and come back and still be at the pointy end.

I'd be surprised if there are clauses that restrict MX style training. Although with the amount of injuries that have been the cause of practice falls, this may be the end of it.

Is that such a miracle. Driving F1 and WRC kind of require some reflexes and general condition and I don't see how doing it dull any onf that.
Partying on Ibiza on the other hand...

My point is he can do whatever he likes and still be competitive.
