Thanks for bringing those up Yamaka. It seems we're going to Rossi hunting grounds next, the opposition should be afraid given his recent form.

Catalunya is like the 2nd home ground for Rossi. Last year with his crappy slowly bike, the power of Ducati did beat him ( with only 0,069 s ). Now with his new Yamaha,I doubt that will happening again. Rossi will take another big win here.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (roger-m @ Jun 3 2008, 04:37 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>as i remember last year rossi was quicker than stoner on all but the big straight where he could not hold him off and pedro i think.
In Mugello, Stoner didn't have a big advantage on the straight. Stoner's top speed was 325 km/h, Rossi 324,4 km/h while Pedrosa (amazing) 325 km/h. You can check this at official motogp website. Pretty even right now....

Another set of interesting Rossi stats - most consecutive wins each season:

2000 1
2001 7
2002 4
2003 3
2004 3
2005 5
2006 2
2007 1
2008 3 so far ....

Best consecutive wins for other riders each season:

KRJR in 00 - 1
Biaggi in 01 - 1
Biaggi in 02 - 1
Gibernau in 03 - 1
Gibernau in 04 - 2
Capirossi in 05 - 2
Hayden in 06 - 1
Stoner in 07 - 3

Prior to 2000, most consecutive wins :
1999 - Criville - 3
1998 - Doohan - 4
1997 - Doohan - 10
<

1996 - Doohan - 4
1995 - Doohan - 4
1994 - Doohan - 6
1993 - Rainey - 2
1992 - Doohan - 4

I'd be surprised to see Lorenzo podiuming, considering the pace the top 3 had last year.

But Rossi's "324.4" was a one-off. He then stabilized at around 317kph. And I mean stabilized: he ran 20 consecutive laps with a top speed variation of 3kph.

Pedrosa 325kph is impressive, but it is clearly due to the unique physical characteristics of the rider. He was 4kph clear of the next Honda rider, DeAngelis. And then Dovi was only 0.2kph back. Hayden didn't even brake the 320s (319.7kph). He [Dani] was also bit more erratic than Rossi and Stoner.

Stoner was, by far, the consistently faster (in a straight line anyway) rider, averaging at about 323kph. But he was not the overall fastest. That was Eminem at 330.8kph.

Interestingly the fastest Yam was Toseland's (325.6kph).

would you now..... i bet you were suprised to see him take 3poles in a row. or win in only his 3rd race. pull yer head out phleg.

Oh ...., you're right Frosty, how could I forget the amazing Lorenzo man?

1. Jorge
2. Lorenzo
3. Rossi

Not everyone share your optimism Frost. As good as Jorge has been so far some people probably feel its still a bit early to start expecting these things, I am currently torn myself. On Saturday i was letting my fanatisism get ahead of me and declared Jorge a full on champiosnhip contender, but now i am trying to stay grounded and would imagine that scoring 30 more points than Rossi is gonna be out of his reach. The way i see it rookie of the year is the only thing that he really needs to do, the rest is a bonus/pleasant surprise

tom i really did'nt expect him to win the championship. rookie of the year i'd say he's a shoe in. remember that pedrosa was in the championship fight all thru most of 06 in his rookie season so counting jorge totally out is a bit foolish methinks. jorge is the more talented of the 2 imho. it's sorta like saying rossi is thru as a competetive racer.

Top speed in tight racing is not such a good indicator as slipstreaming make too much of a difference.
Better to study the bikes side by side and see who accelerates faster and who make the easies passes.

Clearly the one off of Rossi's top speeds where in a draft. Part of Pedrosas fluctuation can be explained by him being in the draft of stoner or not.

Good point. And the correct reading too.

Which makes the Ducatis' performance in a straight line even more impressive, as Stoner was the one parting the air for most of the race.

It's not exactly rocket sience. All we have to do is to watch the race and it's there for anyone to see how much faster the Ducati is accelerating in straight line.
