Rins is on it this weekend. Good chance of a podium and even possible to get the win, without Marc, Dovi etc crashing out. Lorenzo's looking a tad better maybe set for a top ten?

Strange that the Yamahas are looking so competitive here. Can't be that ALL of them got some update since the last race, so I'm guessing they just work well here. The usual suspects with impressive pole positions will I bet, fade 2/3 of the way through the race. Dovi who thus far looks lackluster - will again pull a rabbit out of his hat. He's mentally prepared for Petrux and won't let the kid beat him again. Turns 4 and 5 will be where the crashes happen.
It's simple, total lack of grip = powerful machines (honda and ducati) struggling, and cornering machines (yamaha and suzuki) flying.
Tomorrow after Moto 3 and Moto 2, grip returns and normal service resumes. Marquez will win, Dovi podium.

A bit simplistic. Yamaha and Suzuki are powerful machines too. They mostly aren't up to snuff electronics-wise and don't seem to be able to manage the existing power as well. It's been true since forever: the bikes fastest top speed-wise - aren't defacto race winners. It's true there will be more rubber on the track so - yes - there will be more grip. Marquez will as usual do well, in spite of Honda's handling deficiency and Dovi who rarely focuses on pole, will reliably do better on Sunday.
Suzuki is now the new Yamaha - but without a young Lorenzo or young Rossi in the seat.

They talked about this during FP4 with one of the guest commentators. The Yamaha's have shown they have the one lap pace in qualifying sessions but they cannot conserve the tyres in a way to do those laptimes throughout the race distance. The Suzuki is similar to the Yamaha but is great at conserving its tyre life, Rins is my pic for the win at this round.
They spoke of what you mentioned in that the winners not necessarily being the fastest bikes ie. JL Yamaha. One thing they mentioned that was interesting was the importance of the corner handling bikes for a better word, getting a good starting position. They get the fast laptimes by having huge corner speeds and that advantage can be eroded away when chasing faster more powerful bikes that almost make them stop in the corner not allowing them to ride the way they need to. Explains why JL was so unstoppable when he would qualify on pole and clear out from lap 1.

I would expect the Yamahas to do better once the track rubbers and there is more traction. Not the other way around.

Yep . . . it must have been said before, but I reckon Lorenzo could have gone from the Ducati to the Suzuki and and been competitive from day one. Much as I'd like to be proved wrong - I don't see Mr. Smoothy changing his riding style so radically as to be competitive on the Honda. Nicky had a good year (just barely) in 2006 and Stoner could make it work, the common denominator being, vast experience wrestling dirt track bikes around an oval. Championship winners on the Honda in the two stroke era, were essentially on a technically, more even playing field because all teams and riders were at a similar disadvantage in that the electronics, such as they were, were relatively primitive.
2002 and 2003 were good years for Honda because they'd had the jump on everyone, in that they'd been developing the 990s way in advance of other teams, because they'd been the power behind the decision to go to 4 strokes.
