Cal Crutchlow???? WTF

Dr No

and Kev.

Doh! Having been lambasted by Johnny Knocked-up about being too big an admirer - I somehow blanked out Mr. Schwantz from my list. Funnily enough, I was wearing my Schwantz T-shirt when I was writing the post.

who let cuckoo back in!?

In races that Spies (factory) and Cal (sat) both competed in last year, Cal beat Spies 9 times, Spies only beat Cal on 4 occasions.  Spies did not get on the podium at all, Cal got on the podium twice not once.
Now that's a fair comparison. Let's take the most comically unfortunate season for any rider since Sete Gibernau in 2005 and use those statistics without any context.

Brits can't ride!

Crutchlow, Toseland, Hodgson, Fogarty - never won a world title???
Any native English-speaker can win a World Superbike title.

Tell that to to Roberts, Spencer, Rainey, and Lawson.
Or Doohan.

Also, different eras. Not really applicable anymore.

Rossi praised Cal after the Austin race saying his result with no testing at Austin was very impressive and Cal was better than him on the day.Jorge praised Cals ride in Austin before he praised Markys win yet some on here say Cal is .....

So... are you really back? Or are you just teasing us?

He was a ....... hero on Sunday!

Nuff said!

Shame about the mistake or it could possibly have been another Yam on the podium!

100% agree, glad you had a good time buddy, see ya soon.

have to agree lil red. we dont know how inferior his bike is to the factory yams but we can be sure it wasn't a better bike than bradls rc and cal beat both rossi and bradl who tested here just a few weeks ago.

that IMO speaks volumes.

i was highly critical of cal getting the tech3 seat in 2011 (not saying he didn't deserve it at all, but you know..) so its nice to see him improve from year to year at a constant and considerable rate.

Yamaha will not give him a factory bike next year as Rossi has a contract but i will put money on it that both satelite honda teams who do have factory bikes will be after cal and he  will have a contract offer very soon.

Good call cliche and deal. Conventional wisdom is the first you must beat is your team mate... well Cal destroyed his and flogged a factory bike.

I'm undecided as to his potential, but his result was excellent.

I think Cal is so close to making the final step up to the front. Sunday was outstanding, the guy can ride, no doubt, I just hope he keeps the head. No practice crash at Silvo this year please for starters!

I know it's sooooo uncool to say it here, but beating Rossi on the Tech 3 bike was awesome. On a circuit he wasn't familiar with, 2 weeks after Rossi showed he is still a contender. (Bit controversial there Pete, giving respect to Rossi!) The guy deserves a crack on a factory bike.

<span style="font-size:14px;If he could brake like Dovi or Rossi, he would be up there even on his current Yamaha.

<span style="font-size:14px;Not so sure the factory bike would make a big difference for his braking, and that's where he needs to be more competitive.

<span style="font-size:14px;His performance at Austin was excellent, but one has to take into account that factory Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi had front brake problems in the race.

Cal is not ...., he's a great rider he just needs to fix his pessimistic ... attitude. He must have brought up the ''I didnt get 3 days of practice'' arguement like 10 times in those interviews.  I'd like him a lot better if he werent such a crybaby.

Hasn't telemetry revealed that Crutchlow is exceptional on the brakes? And I believe he's been praised by Lorenzo and Rossi for his abilities on the anchors, too. Or are you saying that he's been too hesitant to have a go on the brakes during a race? Because I could agree with that.

maybe he is very good on the brakes, but if you would ask me who carries on the biaggi tradition of going wide when pushing i'd always say crutchlow is his legitamate successor.

needs to get rid of his regular overshooting the braking point before he can seriously incorporate more knife edge braking duels in his riding

I couldn't agree more man.

He really is coming on.

Just 1 small mistake in each of the last two races cost him.

He just needs to do a mistake free race and then we will be able to get the full measure of how much he really has improved.

Overall I am very impressed with him so far,

And he seemed so relaxed in the paddock too.

On another note I think yeah he should speak out about him having no testing time there,

It' fcuking impressive if you ask me,

And him beating Rossi?

Vale did have a cracked front disc,

Not a fair comparison yet!

Just saying ;)

Cal brakes very late, but his error rate is still too high. At least this year he seems less prone to crashing, that's a key improvement. If only he could avoid those little costly mistakes.... I like him a lot, he's filling the gap left by Sic.

Ah, now I follow you. Can't argue with any of that, except maybe the bit about Marco—not sure he's got the on-track aggression to fill that gap. Quite the personality, though.
