I do not think Stoner crashed because of so called psychological pressure.
Stoner crashed the way any rider can--because he was trying very hard to win, and that meant he had to ride to the very limit against another super-fast rider.
He had 25 points to recover, what other choices had he, but to try come what may? He took his risks, he did the right thing. He was riding beautifully, he didn't look stressed to me. Pity he binned it, because we would have had another duel at the end, I'm sure.
Rossi scored big time for the championship, but be assured that Stoner is going to be back with a vengeance, already at the next race at Misano, right in Rossi's courtyard. And now he has even less to lose... I'm expecting a very exciting race at Misano
What a relief to read a post like this. This one wins the post of the thread award. I don't know why Rossi attracts a number of unreasonable fans (and they are predictably so); but like clock work, they have to come out with .... posts that are so full of double stand, so thick in .... that they never see it applies to their guy too. I've read: 'Stoner choked', by that definition so did Rossi, also read, Stoner doesn't like to battle, well then this applies to Rossi too, I read Rossi has the mental edge as if Stoner didn't hold up all year. Stoner had a DNF of no fault of his own to make up and we get people saying he should have not pushed so hard, or it was caused by some pressure from 2nd position who was over a second adrift? WTF? Of course Stoner has to leave it all on the track and risk if he had any hope of beating Rossi to the title.
I didn't post, not even once, on the Laguna thread because I've come to realize a very frustrating truth--that is a number of Rossi/Stoner fans in peculiar (not all of course, after all, some of my very best friends on this forum are reasonable Rossi fans) seem to always talk .... about who ever is the worthy competitor of their lord Rossi. Its why among them I had become somewhat of a nemesis, though despite them, I have grown to have a tremendous respect and admiration for both Rossi and Stoner. They are both worthy competitors with a strong will to win who are also human and make mistakes. Stoner made a big one this race and may have cost him the title (who knows) but so did Rossi a couple of years ago. They both rode the race they had to--Rossi 'cruising' in 2nd was nothing more than tactically and reasonably smart (assuming he could have even pushed to match Casey, since he went down pretty early). As far as the “luck” and “winning because somebody else crashed” well guess what, this time Rossi is the recipient of such luck and attrition. I bet the farm I won’t read any of them characterize Rossi’s title the way they did for the champs the last two years!
I suppose this doesn't change a thing. We will still have those on both sides that will spew unreasonable .....
