I doubt it. The factory Honda's advantage is so pronounced that I doubt a perfect race by Lorenzo can overcome. The RCV has got stonger. Lorenzo basically said today in the podium interview, he rode a perfect race and this was no match for the Honda. Shiverstone is too wide and fast. There are a few areas where, like at Brno, the M1 will match. But the power off the corners and that Hanger straight will present problems for Lorenzo. Its over. The only thing Lorenzo or Pedro can hope for is a Marc DNF. Which I will be praying doesnt happen until Lorenzo can overtake Pedro in points. Marc basically just needs to beat Pedro. The midget is overrated and that bike is complementary, Lorenzo beats Pedro because hes better despite Jorges slighly inferior bike. Marc beats Pedro because hes better.

Add the engine situation, Yam gas NO chance.. Honda #1

Agree 100%.

But probably without MM Honda's advantage wouldn't be so apparent.  I wonder if Pedro would have caught Lorenzo, without Marquez' tow.

Well Pedrosa still had to get by Lorenzo after Marquez had got by and streaked off into the distance.

I don't think Pedrosa is in any way slow, he was pushing to pass Marquez for quite a while but just couldn't manage it. He's keeping Lorenzo honest as well, i's just Marquez is so ridiculously and incredibly fast right now. Don't forget of course both Lorenzo and Pedrosa are still recovering from injuries as well, that surely has to make some kind of difference to their performance, especially later in the races as they get tired doesn't it?

No he did not, he beat JLO bye the usual distance. (when he beats him)

No he was not, if he was he would have.

Yes he is , and he will get much raster. (rookie year)

Yes they are, but they were not injured at Austin when he also made them look slow. (and next year they will be fit, and he will be even faster)

I have a much better idea. You can explain to the rest of us why HRC would want a rider with 0 world titles and 24 wins when HRC could have a rider with 2 world titles and 38 wins.

Actually, I can think of a possible reason, but we'll see what you come up with.

24 wins with no world title could well be a record in itself?

The best wins/world titles ratio is probably Hayden's.

Alzamora? WC'ship with no wins..though he did win some? the following year.

Yes, that Hayden guy is very judiciuos with his energy. Six more wins and he'll be a 3-time champion.

So anwser the question this time, why do HRC need stoner at present at all?

HRC dont need him.

Suzuki need him, Ducati need him. Yamaha need him, to replace that old guy who can only manage 4th at best. That would be a sight to behold, JLo/Stoner vs MM/Pedro.

No way is Honda going to replace riders when they hold the top two points positions. The chat I was referring to was fan chatter about bringing Stoner back if Marc wins 5 races in a row. Even some Stoner haters would like to see him back if it would stop the Marc Marquez freight train of wins. If, big if, he wins at Silverstone watch the Stoner return talk begin to increase in volume.

A good point. If MM continues to be totally dominant, even Carmelo might want Stoner back.

Whilst I am sure Dorna much prefers MM dominance to Stoner dominance, MM being totally dominant is not ideal for them either, particularly when the 2 closest riders he is dominating are also Spaniards, and not riders anyone particularly hates, except for a few Hayden fans with long memories in the case of Pedrosa.

Whilst obviously extremely good to even the most casual observer who is not legally blind, I don't see MM as having the charisma of Rossi, and certainly not his talent for one-liners in his second or third language. I would see a prolonged period of MM dominance as akin to the Doohan years ie everyone recognising his extreme skill and toughness, but not emotionally involving for non-hardcore fans outside his home country.

At the moment, on the evidence of this thread and others elsewhere, the main satisfaction for that element among Rossi fans would seem to be being able to contend, admittedly with some credibility, that MM is better than Stoner/would be beating him if he was there. I suspect that actually having Stoner there being beaten would be better for the box-office than the current situation, and even I don't think he would be able to dominate MM if he could return at his best, so having Stoner back would be fairly universally good as you say. Don't think it is going to happen though.

The other thing is whether Dani will want to hang around. I rather got the impression with the latest collar bone fracture there is a paucity of remaining straws for Dani. I have always thought he might retire if he won the championship this year, but I am also not sure how long he would want to stay around given the seeming inevitability of further injury if he doesn't think he can beat MM for a championship.

You are aware of Newton's law about action and reaction Talps? No-one except you brought stoner into the thread.

MM's current form speaks for itself, and most seem quite prepared to acknowledge this, whatever their previous affiliations.

MM is a freak. Really impressive debut season. Yeah his bike is good, but the kid riding the thing ain't too shabby either.

I think injury is the only thing that can stop him winning the title this year. An unbelievable achievement in his rookie year considering the level of competition.

I'm looking forward to watching him ride at Phillip Island this year. Doesn't mind the rear getting a little loose on him under brakes either.

Very good to watch.

I'm sure MM can't beat Stoner at Philip Island. Come on, this guy won for the last 6 years with at least 5 seconds over the 2nd. MM isn't THAT good.

So let's hope someome popular enough tweets about it. Something like: "Marquez is so good he could end Stoner's reign in PI".

If Stoner picks it up I'm pretty sure he'll be touched in his pride and do something crazy like coming back for it on a wildcard.

Actually no, have a read of the thread.

It was certainly a reaction. You may have a point about the reaction not being equal and opposite, no one has said Stoner would definitely beat MM, except one poster in regard to PI, whereas you in your initial post expressed certainty that he wouldn't.

You are absolutely correct about the need for a villain to contest the championship against a perceived hero. Those are the best series of all. Wonder if Carmelo has been working behind the scenes to get Honda to entice Stoner back? He knows a good show sells tickets and he's not above dirty tactics.

Not a chance.
