Ok guys, the AMA season is about to begin this weekend.

A few updates. I've been a bit involved with Benny Solis, who had previous been riding with Graves. He scored three WERA national titles in 2010, but unfortunately was not rewarded for the effort. Graves pulled the plug about a few weeks before the season opener. Sucks, but Benny was able to put a last minute bike together, with the help of a few people, and will be running a privateer Honda in the Supersport class for the West Coast championship. Yeah, he was hoping to run DSB with Graves but what can you do. Too many details to air out here.

Here is a link to the announcement and video: LINK

Cali Kid and I had a fundraiser dinner for Benny, and were able to get him some travel money for the first round. I'd like to thank JohnnyK, Chopper, Frosty and Keshva for contributing even though they wouldn't be attending the dinner. Benny also has a new website bennysolis.com check it out.

Here is a good preview of this years season opener: LINK

Btw, I just got this app for my iPhone. You can follow live timing for AMA pro events. LINK

GOOD LUCK BENNY!

Sorry to hear about Solis, I was wondering why he landed in Supersport. Now I know.

Overall, I'm looking forward to this season, and I'm particularly happy that the 200 is back to its old format. Though I won't be able to attend, the weather is supposed to be unreal (knock on wood) so the festivities should be top notch. I don't really have any expectations for the 200 b/c it's usually a free-for-all, but I'm hoping for a little bit of a shake up in SBK. No disrespect to Hayes, but it would be a bit of a downer if he seized a commanding lead after Daytona and never let it go.

Thanks guys! Here is a great article previewing the top entries in this year's Supersport class. LINK

Also, I'd like to share this video (I didn't know where to post it, so I suppose its good enough here. This guy Nadal was at Benny's birthday party last year, and is where I met him. Here are two videos, the first one is about him helping this kid named Lex Hartl, which Benny Solis Sr. introduced to: LINK

This second one is him talking two-strokes: LINK (If you are a fan of the two-strokes, then you will enjoy his opinion.)

AMA is such a joke I'm surprised people are still following it..... although the numbers seems to be dropping. It's basically an overpriced club level racing event.

Other than the nighttime race and the running start what change in format are you referring to Lex?

I was referring to racing in daylight on Saturday on the 3.5mile configuration. Didn't they run it on Friday night for the last 2 years, and weren't they using the 2.9mile config during the FX era?

I don't think they are going back to the 3.5 but I may be wrong. I havn't heard about any changes. I know they originally went to the 2.9 on the SBK because this generation of bikes spins the rear too much. there was way too much heat being generated and they were getting very dangerous tire failures.

Roger Lee just tweeted it was raining and todays event was canceled.

What sucks for me is that whenever there are rain delays they always decrease the SS practice time, in this case, I have a vested interest.

Live timing on now. You can view from your computer for free or get the 99 cent app.

So far the only rider to dip into the 1:39 is Josh Hayes. Chris Paris has the top trap speed on a BMW. RED FLAG, so something happened.

Benny started off the session with some issues. Just so you are aware, Benny has run a Yamaha all year. Since Graves pulled plug last minute possible (you can imagine why), he was forced to put something together from scratch. He's on a Honda that was built last week, then put into a van and transported to Daytona this week. They fired it up, and today was the first time Benny has ridden a CBR600RR, and more importantly, the one he's on. So for those who ride, you can just imagine. He's the only one of note on a Honda in SS because Honda Corp pulled out of AMA when DMG took over. If you notice the field, Benny is basically the only one running a Honda. Anyway, today he started off the session slow. He got the least laps in from the top 10. He was P2 for a moment in the last few minutes, then all the boys turned it up. As of now he's P6 with a gap of 1.03, with 13 laps. 5 of the top 7 bikes are Yamaha, as you can see that's the bike to be on. However, the Honda #35 is being ridden by the most talented rider in the field!

Did anyone see that Beach had better pace than Bostrom in Practice 1?
<

No diss intended to Bostrom b/c anyone who watched the timing session probably noticed that top speeds were jumping all over the place based upon whether or not a rider caught a draft during the lap. Still, it's kind of funny to see the young gun outpace the veteran in the first practice at Daytona.

I'm hoping that DiSalvo only has 1 second on the field b/c he caught an epic draft, but he was at the top all session. Herrin 14th? I wonder if the new chassis rules are messing with his mojo. He missed the first tire test, right?

Herrin missed tire test cuz of injury. I dont think it has anything to do with his bike, but rather his set up. Mayb even a bit lacking focus. He said rather dismissive, he didnt get set up right and just cruised around. Will see tomorrow.

Hard to say. They changed the chassis rules so that brackets and gussets could no longer be added. I have no idea how much (if any) chassis development Graves had on the old R6, but Herrin may not be accustomed to the bike. Aquino also seemed a little bit off the pace as well.

Maybe they are just cruising. We'll see what happens after qualifying tomorrow.

Interesting P1.

Great to see the kids up front making some noise. Its so refreshing to finally see some new young faces in the mix.

Disalvo's got his problems but he's always fast at Daytona. Could Ducati actually win a 200? I dont know if that's ever been done.

I thought Aquino was still with Graves. I guess Graves is only fielding 1 SBK and 1 DSB this year.

Great so see Zemke back in the 200. Between pace cars and pit stops he's had terrible luck in this race. He's my favorite to win.

I hope its just good old Karma.

Haha JD Beach killin them. Jason DiSalvo is a better rider than most people think. He was on a .... third tier Triumph in WSS and finished a few decent positions. At Indy, he did very well on a M2. So its no surprise he did well, cuz he has more to prove. But this was just Practice one. Much more to come.

Aqquino is running a Graves bike, but its sponsored by Yamaha extended warranty. Same ...., more money for Graves.
