800cc is dead.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (alex29 @ Nov 7 2009, 06:13 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>What makes you think the new 1000cc class is going to be any different to the out going 800's? Unless there's a ban on electronics which is near impossible to police (unless there's a control ECU) the 990/1000cc are going to be the same as the 800's. The way tyre's and electronics are evolving upping the capacity is not the right answer. Why not leave the 800 formula and change the rules?? Uping fuel limit to 23L, getting rid of the 6 engine limit per season, lifting the test ban etc.

Anyone got a rope?? A telephone cord will do.

It's a travesty that there were ten times the casualties in Tokyo over the abortive oval piston NR500 white elephant in 1979. They should have been throwing themselves on ther swords en-masse over the piece of ..... that Nicky was forced to ride in the first year of the very very .... 800cc fiasco.

Nice post! I'm thinking of having it tattooed on my arm (in Kanji)

From the last interview I read from Ezpeleta last week it seems indeed DORNA is trying to change to 1000cc since apparently that's what American fans want and they are (their dollars actually) is DORNA's #1 priority these days.

I don't really think that would change much the racing if you keep the electronic aids, and I don't care if it happens or not, but if it bringing back the 1L engines is gonna stop the whining of the anti-Pedrosa lot, go ahead, though I doubt they'll shut up.

Most folks on here are complimentary about Pedrosa's undoubted talent. The main points are that he has lost the ability to race, and prefers to run away; his vile and obnoxious manager; his obvious subservience to Puig - he can storm out of a Michelin test, and even issue ultimatums to HRC, but lacks the strength of character to stand up to a man who has unequivocally damaged his career in the senior class; and the appalling manner in which he conducted himself at Estoril in '06.

In spite of this, I hope that he can at last enter a new season injury free, and with as much testing as is possible (which isn't a great deal anymore) under his belt. In '06 he was a damn impressive rookie; in '07 he was a victim of injury again, and the ludicrous wind up toy that Honda created for him to 'ride'. '08 saw the Sachsenring debacle ruin his championship hopes, and again injury destroyed his season this year. Dani needs to be rid of his manager, in much the same way that Lorenzo needed to bin Amatrian, and he needs to get as aggressive as he could be when he rode the strokers.

The tallest order for our diminutive friend? - he desperately needs to beat Vale in an on-track battle and actually win. He aint going to win a championship simply on a holeshot everytime the lights go out.

Nobody whines about Pedrobot anymore. He is still dogged by a lot of condescending nicknames

but if you look around I doubt you will find many specific rants about the guy. If anything people have become more sympathetic.

I'll take credit for the new found sympathy in small part b/c I was the one who said that Honda bought him for the bike (not the other way around), and I blasted Puig when he said in 2007 after Dani's win at the German Grand Prix, "When Dani ride the bike, he can do". Puig was basically saying that the shortcomings of the RC212V were entirely Dani's and not related to bum tires or a garbage bike. I actually don't ever recall Pedrosa doing anything detrimental to the sport for his own benefit (other than ramming Hayden). I don't think he ever asked for Michelin to make a special tire for him, I don't think he asked Honda to pursue mass centralization to such an extreme that only a midget could ride the RC212V, and I don't think he is as culpable for the control tire as Rossi is.

For whatever reason, everything he does is put under a microscope (maybe b/c he is tiny)

See, nobody hates Pedrosa. There is more trolling about Hayden and Stoner than Pedrosa.
