2025 Silly Season

Let's see...

Ducati factory keep Frantisek and Bestia.
Now that he's no longer impacted by injury we can see that Enea still knows how to ride a bike.
I don't think Ducati wants Jorge and if I was him I wouldn't want to go to a team where I'll play second fiddle to the golden boy.

KTM - Brad and Pedro
Not much to discuss here. I agreed with them not moving Pedro to the works team as a rookie because it allows him to develop without pressure. They'll move him up next year for sure.

Aprilia - Martin and Fabio
Aleix and Maverick are solid but they won't win championships for Aprilia. Let's be bold and swap both out.
What a lethal combo this would be...

Yamaha - Rins and DiGiannantonio
The other Fabio would be a solid replacement.

Honda - Mir and Alonso Lopez

Pramac - Aldeguer ('25) and Aleix ('24)
Depending on how his Moto2 season goes I could see them give him the new bike straightaway. Old guy as a teammate to mentor him.

Gresini - Marc ('25) and Alex ('24)
If stuff works why change it.

GasGas - Jack and Canet
If Jack gets more results like today I think he'll remain in the championship for another year. But not as a factory rider.
Canet is one of the favorites for the Moto2 title and this is where i think he could end up.

Trackhouse - Maverick and Raul
One of them deals where he gets full works material but they gotta make room for the two new factory guys.

VR46 Yamaha (?) - Bezzecchi and Marini
Marini will be thrown a lifeline by his brother and be glad to take it.

LCR Honda - Zarco and Ogura
Zarco has a two-year contract and this could be the year Ai is ready to move up.

Morbidelli and Oliveira are SBK-bound. I said before the season that Augusto is under massive pressure with Pedro as a teammate and so far it ain't looking good.

Of course it's difficult to predict who will perform in Moto2 and get the opportunity to move up.
I was correct about Acosta to KTM and Jörg to Aprilia. Everything else not so much.

Yamaha has officially announced its V4 project. They say that they will debut the engine when it's better than the inline-4. What's interesting to me is that they haven't yet decided what configuration of engine they will use in the 850cc era. That makes it plausible that they want to be able to get experience with the V4 in the 1000cc era to be able to choose their future configuration based on better knowledge. Given that a V4 will require a whole new frame and basically be a brand new bike, I'm a bit confused by the way they present their plans for the engine - the way they talk it's almost as if they're talking about an engine that will just replace the inline-4.

In other news, CFMoto are continuing to develop technology. This article is interesting to me because it mentions CFMoto's aim to compete at the highest level, and it mentions not only their road-going V4 1000cc bike (which elsewhere is said to be based on the KTM MotoGP bike), but also that they plan to develop a MotoGP bike themselves. At least that's my reading between the lines. From what's written here, it suggests that will be their own bike, not a badged KTM MotoGP bike like the GasGas is. But, I think that CFMoto and KTM are a bit too much joined at the hip (even if they are independent companies) for them to both be in MotoGP with independent bikes.

There is a lot of good information in there from the people that do know, but they still leave us up in the air about how and when, so the guessing will continue.
I do love listening to Kevin Cameron, my time, he really tells it like it is.

Sounds like it might be the new Yamaha V4 so I’ll guess it will need sorting
I suspect that the V4 will arrive later on in 2025, if it arrives in 2025 at all. Given what Yamaha are saying. Yes, I previously wondered if we might see it at the end of year test this year, but that looks incredibly unlikely given what Yamaha themselves say.

There’s a number of possibilities, they could give it to 1 rider and/or wildcards is another

Agreed - wildcards are the most likely place to first see the V4. Based on current info.

One thing I'm thinking about - nowadays teams rely on getting information from other teams through hiring ex-other-team staff. If Yamaha is the only team with an inline-4, then this perhaps limits this flow of information. Having a V4 means that information gained through new, but experienced, staff may be more applicable to the Yamaha.

i think that’s what Jarvis was hinting at reading between the lines.

Excuse my ignorance, but the commentators in practice were talking about building a Yamaha V4 1000cc for the wildcard events. What stops them just building an 850cc and wildcarding it? Garry McCoy did it with the 800cc Ilmor in Valencia 2006.

As a wild guess, wild-carding an 850cc engine will not tell them how they compare to the other bikes. Which the like-for-like comparison of a 1000cc V4 would do. And, from what's been written, it seems plausible that Yamaha will enter a V4 bike in 2026.

Nothing about the rules that will prevent from doing that, although the bike will be 40-50 HP down on the 1000s, so not a lot they can learn from the outings.

Lin Jarvis said the V4 will get the nod when it’s faster than the inline 4. for that you’ll need to compare 1000cc to 1000cc, at least for now.

I have a feeling we are gonna see a V4 Yamaha sooner than you think.
