It wasn't his decision or the teams decision, the article says. So: who?

Is Chantra no longer a possible for that seat?

If Nakagami was forced out instead of retiring by himself Honda really shot themselves in the foot with that change.
Somkiat has not been impressive at all in Moto2 this year.

The mountain of a challenge ahead of him aside, so happy for him. It’s a huge market for Honda and he’s always come across as a sincere guy, more than a match for his then teammate Ogura on multiple occasions.

Pramac Yamaha are now the most desirable seats in MotoGP. (They probably were since Aldeguer was announced).

If Chantra can compare well to Zarco, that would be enough for next year. A few outqualifications, and a few finishes ahead of Zarco when neither fall would be impressive. I'm not sure how much more can be expected. Top rider on a Japanese bike?

Of course, I'd like to see the bikes from Japan doing much better next year, but I'm not yet convinced I will see it.

Motogp nepotism at its finest. Your passport outweighs your talent.

Who would you prefer to see in the seat?

I personally think that MotoGP next year is a combination of riders chosen for their talent, and a few where other factors have contributed as well. Chantra has not done too well this year, but he has shown talent in the past. Remember how well Quartararo did in Moto2?

Dixon, Canet, Roberts, Viette, Arbolino just to name a few. How well Fabio did in moto2 has nothing to do with Chantra and Agura not earning their seats based on results. Regardless of how talented Chantra is he will suck on the honda just like everyone else.
