The new rear tyre pushing the front...

So it would seem that the new tyres by Michelin is what is behind
- The gap between the latest Ducatis and the rest
- Why riders crash out of the lead
- Why the gaps between the latest Ducatis and the rest isn't that big in the quali

It’s looking likely there will be only 2 new riders this contract cycle. If that was typical it would mean that riders last a decade before loosing their ride

Forgive my naivety but isnt that where a riders ability should come into the equation? It’s an old adage but the throttle goes both ways. Or do we want to see bikes run by computers where you can just pin it through every corner in the expectation that the tech will take care of everything.

This is the consequence of Dorna not putting the Gigi Genie back in the bottle in time.

There’s more exciting racing and overtaking happening in the women’s racing championship where they race slow ... Yamaha R7s. No aero, no fancy anything, just a bunch of badass women beating the pants out of each other on track.

Just watched race 1 of the hair dryer championship and even that had better racing and overtakes than the average MotoGP race…

Perhaps for 2027 they should make the rear tyre narrower so to reduce rear grip
I feel for Michelin.

They are developing a tyre, based on feedback, based on data they have available, based on testing.

Then they give the tires to the teams, and the bikes are different, the temperature at the tracks are different.

Have just watched the qualifying for qualifying and was impressed with Morbidellis 2nd fastest time and was just thinking, I wonder if he will convert that to anything meaningful this weekend / how did he get the VR46 ride after this season when the picture cut to him in the garage and it hit me!
Is he being kept around for inclusivity reasons because he is a ROBO?
Tin foil hat time maybe? 😬
What is a ROBO?

Same as a MOBO but with a bike instead of a mic.
I think him challenging for the 2020 championship including beating Quartararo by some margin may have some influence on him being around. But, I think the most important factor is his relationship with Rossi.

To be fair he was once a very competitive rider, and FQ didn’t get much in the way of results on a Yamaha either when Morbidelli started struggling there. As was said pre the sprint race he missed the whole pre-season with an injury from which he was doubtless still recovering in the early season. As someone said pre the sprint race he has been getting improved results recently, and so he probably should on GP24 if he has remaining talent, but perhaps he has been judged prematurely including by me.

Even more so than Frankie we need to see how Jack goes over full race distance.

VR46 signing him is a favor of course - Albeit he’s looking lately like he’s earning that ride- but it’s also last chance saloon; as evidenced by the fact that it’s a 1 year contract. If Vietti builds up momentum next year with his rumored SpeedUp switch, Morbidelli’s seat is in no way safe beyond 2025.

Somewhat garbled because I was getting on a plane. As someone also said Jack looks to have gotten on better with the tyre this weekend at least in the sprint race, and if I am wrong about him as well I have always said I didn’t think he could ride the version of the Michelin tyre for the last 16 months. In the sprint race her seems to have gone back for that race anyway to what he was for a significant part of his career, not really threat for the win except in unusual circumstances but not the slowest guy out there either, and a lower top 10 guy rather than a guy finishing 15th as he has been doing.
