What the heck is going on with Fermín Aldeguer ?

It seems to me that something has changed in Moto2. Suddenly the Kalexes are on the pace, and Boscoscuro riders are all over the place. Today Garcia was off the pace, as well as Aldeguer - just not as badly. Last race it was Ogura off the pace after running out of tyres. But, today Alonso had his best result since his win in the season opener.

But then, Joe Roberts has also suddenly started performing worse over the last three races, when previously he was probably the Kalex rider most capable of taking the fight to the Boscoscuro riders.

Feels like all these talk about Motogp transfers and subsequent rejection had a toll on Garcia and Roberts. Fermin seems to have lost it with Pirelli (he shud have have gone to Motogp along with Acosta)

The most competitive Kalex teams were the ones sponsored by Pierer Mobility Group. They switched to WP suspension this year and had a tough time at it, until the summer break.

Simultaneously, Boscoscuro cracked the magic formula to make the Pirellis work. Which made them outperform in the first half of the season.

Over the summer break, WP did a lot of testing with Jonas Folger and Acosta, which helped them find a breakthrough and that translated to better results after the break.

It’s not so much that Boscoscuro lost their competitiveness (Ogura was dominating the proceedings until his unfortunate injury), it’s just that they have more competition now.

As for Aldeguer, he blew hot and cold in the previous season as well and I personally think Ducati was a bit too hasty signing him up.

Not just him, though.

García was picking up wins and podiums, then has started to tail off
Ogura built himself up, then went sour in England
Roberts never really bad, yet hasn't been his season opener since his crash
López has no consistency, same with Vietti although he is on a postive trend
Dixon is still dixoning and Canet caneting

No rider has won more GPs than Aldeguer this season, no rider has set the fastest race time more often than he has this season

He isn't that far off, he isn't that bad. He merely isn't Acosta part II

Dixon joins Elf MarcVDS
I’m assuming Salac is out.

Good move for Dixon. MotoGP probably isn’t happening for him, so might as well ride a couple of years for MarcVDS in Moto2 and then switch over to WSBK with the same squad if they want to field two bikes in the future.

...or replace Sam.

If MotoGP happened for Jake it had to happen in the 2023-24 silly season. This year got off to a terrible start but the outlook is highly promising for the rest of the season.

He won't be a MotoGP world champion. He could have a good shot at the Moto2 championship in 25 or 26 though.

Boscoscuro figured something out at the end of last season which allowed Fermin to dominate all these races.
This year another team added Boscoscuro as their chassis supplier and both their riders are ahead of Fermin who was still quick but inconsistent.

I'm not saying he's not an exceptional talent but it seems like people are quick to consider young Spanish guys the next Acosta. Last year it was Fermin, this year it's Alonso, the year before Fermin it was Guevara and Raul was the next Acosta before Acosta.

I think that Alonso is damn good, and I don't think my comparing him to the greats at the same stages of their careers is hyperbole. Of course, there are riders who shine early on and then fade. Probably more than those that maintain that performance. But, at the moment, he definitely looks to be where they were at that time. We'll see how he does in Moto2.

Completely forgot that Marc VDS will be on Boscoscuros next year. Makes it even better.

Hmmm.... Maybe. I wonder if we're currently seeing the Revenge of the Jedi^H^H^H^H Kalexes. At least the KTM supported ones. Though, Boscoscuro seem to always be there or thereabouts.
Just as in MotoGP, data is the new oil.
More machines out on track will only help Boscoscuro , just as it did for Kalex over the past few years.

Indeed. I wonder how big the two organisations are. Comparatively. I've always thought of Speed Up/Boscoscuro as a smaller company than Kalex, but that could easily be wrong.

They both are fairly small, with only have a dozen or so employees from what I recall.
Suter is a much bigger org, they even built a 500cc two stroke racing motorcycle in house from what I remember and is/ was making Ducati’s twin spar frame.

Personally I think something is going right if smaller companies can compete well against larger ones. E.g. Kalex and Boscoscuro/Speed Up seeing off Suter and KTM. Clearly the spec engine will have a lot to do with that. I wonder what happened to the company that was going to make a carbon framed Moto2 bike.

I remeber hearing of the MMX500 when it came out. Just revising this, which was filmed not too desperately far from where I am now:
