2023 Valencia GP - Season Finale

Like JPL, I too missed the first few laps of the race. Now having seen the way he got sucked into Baggy’s slipstream and almost taking him out, it seems (in retrospect) even clearer, that he was way too much in the Duh!-Dog-Chase-Squirrel mode to run a smart race. And despite the KTM crew pushing so hard at the front, I don’t see Bagnaia ending up in 6th, making all that frantic overtaking seem a bit silly, which makes me even more pissed off at what he did to Marquez.

Just now watched a bit of the behind the podium chit chat, they were saying that the smoke coming off Diggia’s bike was not his exhaust, but rather it was his tire. LOL.

Y’ know - there’s a lot of detail that other members here catch during the race that I don’t discern. I have a decent 42” Flatscreen, but am wondering if it is time to upgrade for next year. Wondering what size etc folks are watching the races on.
Cheers,
K

People are quick to jump on Miller and Binder, but they both experienced the same problem at the same corner, in Crafar’s estimation, with Binder making a good save while Jack tried to ride through the front lock up. I think those crashes were a KTM issue. The bike did not like the change of direction at that speed, and both riders eventually made mistakes.
If you watch the first lap again, Binder also had a lock up into T2. It's what allowed Martin pass.

People are salty with Marquez following the race, but I didn’t see fault in either clash he had on Sunday. As Spies pointed out in his recent interview, with modern MotoGP bikes, you get to choose a line and that’s it. The riders don’t have many opportunities to make adjustments, and Valencia is a technical track that links corners together. Marquez was on the inside when he collided with Bezzechi. I’m sure Marco wanted the line, but Marc was there, and he wasn’t making a late dive bomb, as I recall. The Martin incident was also understandable. Jorge tried to pass on the inside late, if Marc adjusted he probably would have lost a couple of places so he let off the lever, and tried to use his momentum to carry him past Martin. Didn’t work. Oh well. Would have been better for Marc not to get involved in the championship battle, but Jorge had already made a series of crazy lunges and his luck was going to expire eventually. I don’t see the point in blaming Marc for everything.
"When it's Marc Marquez, everyone wants to stick the knife in" - Jack Miller, 2023.

I watched up until MM/JM crash just couldn't be arsed to watch the rest...JM is too hot headed to win the cup imo.

The Ducati championship that is.
It was a combo of a multiple errors in judgement, and that ...... tire last week that cost him what really could have been a very convincing championship. I wouldn’t at all discount the likelihood of him maturing and winning the championship next year. Right now he’s not Martinating. More like Marinating.

Now that the dust has settled does anyone know for sure why Martin ran the hard front in Q2? Did he just have a brain fart or is there a logical reason? As it turned out being on the front row would have been pivotal for the main race. He managed to overcome it in the sprint but twice was to much to expect.

He wanted the other bike solely for its rear tire. there was no time to change the front i think was the reason

Finally watched the race. Not the finale I was anticipating but ok. Martin blew it again. Twice. He doesn’t seem to be able to calm down when he needs to.
Of course he had to win or bin but it just seemed premature.
Didn’t see what got Bez all hot under the collar, but his reaction just confirms his subordinate status. Disappointed that he seems to still want to carry vr46’s water so passively.

Would have been cool for DiGia to pass Pecco again for the win but oh well. One more little disappointment this year, who’s counting. The show will go on, with or without me.

So . . . Fangs Binder is promoted to 3rd on the podium. Much as I like the guy, got to say, this tire pressure stuff is horseshit. IMHO - Michelin is promoting this regulation not for reasons of safety, but to have plausible denial about the shiftiness of their tires. Man, I miss Bridgestone.

How many years has it been since realizing that with every passing season, the big passion is for the next season when it’s all going to come good?

According to sources, he said some pretty bad stuff to Marc

"I wish you had never returned to riding and see when you leave here because you are the cancer of this grid..."

I find it weird that Rossi's own brother seems to be the only one not ...... up in the head in that group.

He is doing everything he can to keep the ranchfather happy. The dumb .... even chose to stay at vr46 over a better ride. I am pretty sure he is wearing Rossi's earings from 2001. ....... ..........

At least we figured out who birdbird is. Its Bez.

Bagnaia was slightly more consistent. If Martin happened to get the other factory ride instead of Beast , Martin would have ran away with it imo.

Martin over achieved on a satellite bike. Pecco did the bare minimum of what was required on a factory bike. Pecco probably isn't capable of doing what Martin did.

I'm just not that impressed with Pecco. Hes lucky Bastanini really sucked and that there was no other manufacturers in the title fight.

Maybe Martin would have run away with it, but he would have had to overcome the #2 curse (2nd Ducati rider). Bagnaia was only fighting the #1 curse (running the #1 plate).

I'm glad the #1 curse is broken. The #2 curse will probably never be broken. What should we call that one? The curse of Melandri?

I hope Martin apoligised to Marquez later. At the time he was way too over the top hot headed as his DNF ended the championship as even if Pecco DNF'ed Pecco would be world champion.

What was the story of Binder going thru the long lap penalty loop? Did he have a long lap penalty or did he loose the front end and ended up on the long lap as part of saving it?

Why wouldn't Bez be pissed at Marc? Marc was being his usual .... self in traffic. I don't dislike Marc but after my first full time watch of Moto GP, i finally understand his reputation.

In the Bez incident , it was Marcs fault.

About the Martin incident, does he enjoy getting thrown out the front door like that ? He was entitled to the space but he had to know Martin was going for broke. But he defends anyway and has a crash. This could have easily cost him time next season. It was totally unessesary.

He reminds me of Juan Montoya and Estiban Ocon.

I've been watching since 2010 and Marc has not ever voluntarily given up a position in history.
The one exception was Valencia 2015 where he was clearly faster than Lorenzo but didn't try to pass for well known reasons.

Binder lost control and used the LL to recover

You would have to ask Bez why he doesn't like Marc. But its pretty obvious he is just doing what Rossi wants of him. How was the crash with Bez Marcs fault? The door was open and Bez tried to take up space that was already occupied. Thats not Marcs fault.

As for the incident with Martin, what did you want Marc to do? Not battle? First of all if you know Marc thats never going to happen. You can't say he should have map 8'ed and let Martin by. We don't want that. Thats not what this sport is about. Martin was impatient and was 100% at fault. He was destined to crash riding the way he was. No rider should ever give up the right to a line for another rider. Thats total ......... Marc was not at fault in either of these crashes.
