<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Dazza @ May 31 2009, 04:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Good win from Smith world champ this year? Webb was unlucky running in 4th before crashing.

250 as usual was full of drama with Simoncelli and Bautista having that squabble allowing a well deserved win for Pasini. What was up with that pink bike?...

The guys on Motogp.com were saying that it had something to do with ladies night!! I'm not sure though

^ Yeah I did hear that and it was in Rimini or something? maybe some nightclub?

According to Italian sports paper Gazzetta.it Simoncelli has been handed a warning, next time he does it he'll get disqualified for one race and handed a $5000 fine.
IMO this is too lenient, you give a warning the FIRST time he does something wrong not the (at least) 4TH TIME Simoncelli pushes out of track a competitor!!! (Kallio, Lorenzo and Barberá being the previous victims).

Simoncelli should have been disqualified IMO he's gonna keep doing it as long as he gets away with it. This manouver costed Bautista vital points in the fight for the championship so I disagree with the "no harm" theory.

I meant "harm" literally. As in physical harm. And I was comparing it to Dovi/Dani this year. Maybe its a European/North American thing but I don't mind the paint rubbing if no one is hurt.
<

Simoncelli just doesn't race clean. In every race there is a "Simoncelli Moment" where he either almost or does take someone out. Tradin' paint in Nascar is part of the game, but motorcycle racing isn't bumpercars. I watch the racing on TVE and anytime Simoncelli nears a Spanish rider the commentators fear the worst. Unfortunately they are often right.

Simoncelli did'nt cost Bautista anything

. Baustista caught Marco again and through his own mistake nearly lost it which I guessed scared him a little and he backed his pace off. Thats what cost Baustista vital points.

I watched three interviews Bautista and he did'nt say anything bad towards Marco. He was actually laughing about it

Ye girls need to get real about racing. If you give a racer the slightest space to get thru he will try.

no, racing is hard driving with a chance of overtaking. this is throwing other riders out of race for no reason.

Exactly Marco saw a chance and went for it. Probably not the best place to overtake and I'm not saying the incident was'nt Marcos fault but as I said if a rider leaves a gap then that rider should be expecting the guy behind to go for it. For Marco most of the time it pays off other times like today it dose'nt.

Next time! He deserves that this time, that was a really dodgy pass Bautista had the racing line and there was nowhere for him to go, and Simoncelli should have known that. That could have caused a crash. Bad move on his part, not the first time either.

There is more than one line around a corner. If you look you will see that both were set up for the corner, they both had a line. Bautista's line "the racing line" actually led him to close up on Marco because he did'nt expect Marco to over take and be where he was. There was'nt much either could have done once committed.

It also could have payed off and been the overtake of the weekend.

I really dont get these cry foul on Marco. To me it just means he is trying harder than everyone else and wants the win more. The same could be said about Bayliss in his early days with his inspirational "win it or bin it" attitude

Can't agree on this one. ....... Simoncelli is a reckless goonsmack. Racing is rough enough
without the demolition derby tactics. The ....... guy is pathological. This clown should be
put out to pasture before he kills someone.

Way to go Smith! Leading the championship now. Keep it consistent. Great race overall, some good battles going down to the end until Smith pulled away.

250
Way to go Pasini !!!! Great ride, granted it could have been a Bautista or Simoncelli win, but they clearly had their moments. In the end Pasini earned it like no other, the last lap battle of Pasini vs. Simoncelli was a classic, and in the wet no less. That had to be a record for first <span style="color:#FF00FFpink bike to win a race?
<

Bautista is leading the overall and looking much better then at the start of last years season. Despite Simoncelli's bad pass, I am still looking forward to more Bautista vs. Simoncelli battles, they're starting to become classic.

man..... i can't believe all the bellyachin about that pass! those last couple of laps... hell the whole race was brilliant! simoncelli is a racer as is bautista & they both were determined to win. marco may have not timmed the pass just right obviously but c'mon.... were you not yelpin out loud during those last few laps? that was some damn exciting racing imho so lets cut out all this he should be banned, he should be fined, he needs to be kicked out .... shall we. how many of you, except teo, would be calling for rossi to be punished for such a move which he's made plenty of? good on pasini for takin advantage! brilliant win!

Good post, I'm glad someone else can see these incidents from a racing and racers perspective.

missed the 125... couldn't drag my ... outa bed early enough but caught the 250 race. eee after simoncelli went down it turned into a precession with the outcome in no doubt.... with the exception of aoyama ride to 2nd. that was impressive. it's ashame he had those early problems.

Me too, but I caught the repeat of it later. Bloody glad I did too as it was awesome.
I can't imagine how sick Julian Simon must have felt on his way back to the pitlane afterwards.

Aoyama was brilliant yet again. I don't know what's happened to him this year, but I've never seen him ride as hard as he is right now - that pass on Barbera was incredible.

What looked at first to be another epic multi bike full race battle to the end quickly transpired into a 2 way battle between Iannone and Simon. Simon, most likely excited that he was going to win a Spanish GP was not paying attention to his lap board and started celebrating/slowing down with 1 lap to go. Iannone just cruised on by and by time Simon figured it out he was in 5th. A valiant effort by Simon to grab a preliminary 3rd place, but once they reviewed the times he was pushed off the podium by Gadea. Lesson here, pay attention to the race board and that white flag means 1 lap to go.

250
Simoncelli lost the front end early in the race so gone was the chance for another epic Bautista vs Simoncelli battle. Impressive ride by Aoyama who at one point slowed down and lost several positions due to a bike issue. He managed to get back in the race and finish 2nd. Bautista is looking much stronger this year, his consistency is going to win him the title. I was really pulling for Pasini to get 3rd, but Barbera wanted a home podium more. Steve Bonsey returned to the show, a result of 15th on his first time out, not bad.

Not quite the lesson. It was the race board that fooled Simon as it used a different numbering system to his team and their pit board. Also i don't think white flags are used for last lap over here.
