<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Teomolca @ May 18 2008, 07:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Congrats to DiMeglio for his home win, he's good on wet surface, the Vermy of 125cc and being at home it was gonna be a win or bust for him. Still I don't see him as champion, too inconsistent.

He's leading the championship, largely due to his consistency compared to the other riders. Who do you see as the championship contenders? I think it'll be between Di Meglio and Corsi, with Smith and Talmacsi as long shots.

I was actually thinking of his overall career so far (DiMeglio), of course he could pull a Stoner and go from crasher to winner. But I think he'll not win the championship. Corsi, Terol, Talmacsi I think will end up ahead.

DiMeglio had almost twice as many points scoring rides than Terol last year and was 5 places higher in the championship.

I have been impressed with Terol this season, Olive and Bradl too. All three have taken a decent step forward and are running at the front regularly but i am unconvinced of their ability to be serious title contenders.

Olive actually did pretty well last year but hes been around a long time and i have little faith in him turning himself into a world champion all of a sudden. Having said that riders can find and lose form very dramatically, Simoncelli is a fine example of someone who for now at least appears to have turned his career around.

Missed both races due to a charity darts match for the Sichuan earthquake. Will try and watch a rerun.

Yeah I think Terol has the same problem as DiMeglio, a lot still to prove, I just thought he'll end up ahead.

Olive has been a long time around and he's been on .... bikes most of the time, last time he was on an equal field, he won the championship (Movistar cup) beating among others Dani Pedrosa and Toni Elias.

Absolutely, but that's what 125 is about these days. Smith is in the same boat, with only podiums on his CV so far. The season is long, and those who are ready will become comfortable with the pressures and expectations. At least noone is or looks like they will dominate.

That was 8 years ago, and i feel holds very little weight now. Have his bikes really been inferior all this time? If so why?

IMO you need a lot of luck in this sport and make the right choices outside the track. Talent is just not enough. Look at Biaggi, probably 2nd most talented rider for many years, he took all the wrong decisions in the last few years and now he's on privateer bike on SBK!

Yeah , Biaggi should have stay with Suzuki factory bike and wait for another year to replace Bayliss at Ducati..

Simoncelli should get disqualified for that block on Barbera, he could have seriously injured him.

Horrible, horrible crash and its good to see Hector is ok.

What race were you watching? There was no block there as far as I could see.

+1

He did a small weave, but EVERYONE in the small classes do it, and unfortunately this time someone suffered as a result of it.

Hopefully it'll put a stop to it from now on, like in car racing.

Maro weaved across infront of poor Hector and he had to slam the brakes on.

It definatly wasn't Barbera's fault so for me Simoncelli caused the accident and Berbera paid for it, so I think Simoncelli should get penalised for that alone.

It's called a block, totally legal.

EDIT...

Barbera did'nt pull the front brake, Simoncelli touched Barbera's front brake trying to avoid giving Barbera the slip stream
