WSBK Rd3 - Valencia

Race 1

Damn Corser got a great start on the BMW, and for once he didn't fade, looks like things are improving for him and BMW. Checa should have pulled the double this weekend, but apparently a bad tire choice in race 1 put him down and out. Haslam was in a great position to pick up and lead for a commanding win. Biaggi picking up some great points in 2nd. And JT makes a surprising trip to the podium, he looked solid during the race and worked hard for that rostrum. He also managed to beat his teammate on the weekend.

Race 2

Haga washed up? Haga is back!
<
Wow did he look good once he decided to just turn on that Haga magic and just go for it. This win is just what he needed. Honestly I thought Checa would still get the win, but Haga barely pulled it off. Too bad Camier went down, he looked very impressive leading the restart of the race, he's doing well above expectation so far this year, despite the crash, good going. Biaggi did well again to just hang in there and pick up important points, he closed down the gap to Haslam by only 15 pts after the day was over.

Great weekend for WSBK. The championship is looking to be close this year and very likely to be between more then just two riders.

Look at the top six in race one

1. Leon HASLAM (Suzuki GSX-R1000), 23 laps, 36:47.723
2. Max BIAGGI (Aprilia RSV4 Factory), -1.757 seconds
3. James TOSELAND (Yamaha YZF-R1), -3.621
4. Troy CORSER (BMW S1000 RR), -4.209
5. Noriyuki HAGA (Ducati 1098F10), -4.378
6. Jonathan REA (Honda CBR1000RR), -9.834

The Flaminni brothers have to pretty pumped when they see that

Andrews finished in 18th place in the opening race but early on in race two, he was hit by Honda rider Vito Iannuzzo on the high-speed home straight causing the Kawasaki and rider to clatter into the pit wall meaning the race had to be stopped.

Andrews was attended by medics at the scene before being taken to the circuit medical centre and was fortunate to be released with nothing more than a couple of broken bones in his foot and severe bruising.

How was this weekend for me?

Moto2
MotoGP
SBK
The Masters
NHL Final Regular Season - Philly vs. Rangers for final playoff spot and Buf vs. NJ for 2nd seed in East
UFC

....... hell also squeezed in an all night party on Friday, played in a pool comp and went to a concert Saturday night and a dinner party Sunday... I'm burned out yet supposed to goto a b-day party tonight... where's the amphetamines?

Race 1 was the best race of the year so far! Does anyone think the lead Kawasaki is cursed?!

How in the world can we be on a motorcycle racing forum hand have barely 3 pages on WSBK? Geez.

Races were awesome! Haslam is the real deal and may just bag a title this year, I sure hope so.

Andrews, OMG!

After race 1 I thought, Haga is done. Then he kicked me in the mouth race 2. Hahaha

RL, please, somebody, take him out of his misery?

I was thinking the same thing, then realized that this is first and foremost a GP board . If they run on the same day, WSBK is the red headed stepchild.

Valencia is also one of the most dull circuits on any calendar. Even in WSBK passes are hard to come by. Both races were very good, but I dislike Valencia so much, I can't really bring myself to watch the entire race.

I only watched at all b/c I wanted to watch the BMW out drag everyone in Superstock 1000, but then travel the same speed as all of the other bikes in WSBK.
<

I really really wish the Flaminis would find a way to race at Jerez.

Yeah Valencia sucks. Still WSBK was able to put on a pretty decent show. Haga needs to Qualify better to have a shot at this title.

RL is doing better every week. Hopefully the Kawasaki doesn't kill him first.

Yet a Ducati had the fastest trap speed in the race.
<
Here is a new conspiracy to chase. The Flaminni's have secretly allowed Ducati a higher rev limit in Superstock. Its the only answer, rev's create hp,hp translates to top speed.

The Ducati and the BMW are the most powerful stock bikes on the grid so I'm not sure what conspiracy I'm supposed to see. The two most powerful bikes set the highest trap speeds, and the trap speeds are clustered by horsepower rating (brand). Same as in GP.

In WSBK the most powerful bikes on the grid (in theory) go approximately same speed as the least powerful bikes on the grid. I think I remember seeing Haslam draft past Corser in Race 1. I'm supposed to believe that the BMW is running at max potential.

And exactly which Ducati would that be, the 17000 version, the 26000, dollar version, or the 40000 dollar version. Here is a dyno chart from a 2010 1198S, the stock equivalent of a jap 1000.

Correct me if im wrong, but im pretty sure every one of the Jap 1000's buries those numbers. Hell, a ....... KTM buried it

No, the BMW is not running at Max potential, its running at max potential under the written rules, just like every other bike is not running at max potential.

Here are the other bikes.

The 1198S is a snake in the grass. It's basically the exact same engine dimensions as the 1098R but they don't crank the thing up b/c they don't want to lure people away from the R model (which is also a snake in the grass).

In any event, understated power or not, the Ducati doesn't produce any more peak power than the average 1000cc 4-cylinder bike. However it has a capacity advantage so it produces more power than a 1000cc engine at every point in the usable rev range same with the BMW b/c it has more peak power and more revs to play with. They use air restrictors to reduce the throttle response and midrange power in WSBK. Superstock 1000 doesn't have air restrictors.

And why would it be a snake in the grass. Stock to stock , the Jap 1000's blows away the 1198 in HP, top speed, 1/4 mile, lap times etc. Go to the R Model for double the money and you get similar performance numbers. You can always spend 3 times the money for a R Corse, or drop 4 grand on a 13 k jap bike and still beat the .... out of it. Snake in the grass, more like a hand in your back pocket.

As far as the BMW, are you going to force me to show the graph again that shows you have no idea what your talking about when you say it has more usable power at every point of the rev range than the jap 1000's. That is simply an uninformed statement, or a deliberate lie. Look at the numbers below and tell me it has more usable power in every rev range. Im sure a racer could find a way to use that 12-13 hp advantage between7-9000 k, and even the paltry 5 hp at 10k

Values (hp):

ZX10R / BMWS1KRR

3000rpm: 32/25
4000rpm: 48/37
5000rpm: 66/54
6000rpm: 85/71
7000rpm: 103/90
8000rpm: 123/111
9000rpm: 142/130
10000rpm: 156/151
11000rpm: 169/170
12000rpm: 175/181
