He will end up in WSBK...best case!

If he does get a satellite MotoGP ride only then he might as well stay in AMA. Why? Because if the satellite team (of which ever maker) then he could end up like Mladin when he tried 500s.....and Spies fans would forever be saying he failed to deliver was because he was a second rate team/bike....

So if Spies can't get a factory team ride in GPs then he should either aim for a big time rid in WSBK (where things are more even) or stay in the AMA....

If BS is as good as his fans think he is then the factory team will recognize his talent and give him a shot....woudl you not agree?

Do you believe in anyway that what ama/dmg has done is good for the sport?

It's no mystery. I'm sure you haven't seen, but I've said on numerous occasions I believe the AMA is moving in the right direction. Parity of equipment is extremely important in production bike racing, especially if it's only a national series.

The AMA resembles a gang-controlled ghetto. The governing officials have little to no control. Each gang is clinging desperately to its nearly worthless piece of turf. Why? Because that's all they have and they can't traffic their product without that piece of turf.

Even the mentality of the manufacturers resembles that of gangs. They don't care if they are all better off after DMG, the manfacturers only care that they are still relatively better off than their enemies. Look how long the insurrection against DMG lasted.

Somebody needs to clean this mess up. I'm not terribly pleased it's DMG, but if anybody can bring cash and fans it's them. The manufacturers have no leadership, no vision, and little hope for rebuilding the greatness of the AMA; otherwise, I would have been happy to see them try to rehab the series.

I'm not an ends justify the means sort of person, but if DMG succeed in rehabilitating the sport, I really don't care what they do. We can sort out the crimes against racing decency when the sport is no longer in danger of collapse.

I think his chances of getting a factory MotoGP ride are slim and none none, and slim just left town. He has been quoted as saying he only wanted a factory ride and I do not see that happening considering his lackluster performance at laguna. I think he may be offered a WSBK factory ride and if he does he should snap it up. A satellite Motogp ride would place him mid-pack at best, riding a couple of years in WSBK will get him acclimated to actually having competition who will fight tooth and nail for every position. Right now i think he is accustomed to blowing away the rest of the grid9with the exception of his recently penalized teammate).

Well stated Mylexicon.

So basically if the MIC starts a series it will be more of the same only worse?

You could be right.

But having belonged to the ama for 40+ years only so I can race(and still do). I will continue my long standing repulsion of their vile small minded, harley oriented, vindictive organization.

To bad the AFM are racers first and businessmen not at all.

Traverser, who could possibly step up and pay him with the mfgs out?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Anders GUZZI @ Aug 24 2008, 01:56 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I confess, even though i'm not in the discussion.I know nothing about AMA and what will happen next year.So i just voted what i would guess.
He will go to WSBK or some kind of SBK and enter Moto GP the year after that.
If i'm not misstaken his options in MotoGP is Gresini and Alice right?I think all those spots are going to be filled with 250 riders and remaining riders.Besides, does he really want to go to Alice?

I agree and WSBK is his most logical move given the dubious options in Motogp. Gresini have been rewarded (with a factory bike) for hiring Nakano, but they were THE satellite/semi-factory Honda team until Gibernau left. Who can say what their status will be next season?

Barros has summed up Alice/D'Antin, and given what he said it could be argued (tounge in cheek) that the Ducati techs bluetoothed new upgrades into Elias's bike from pitwall once they saw Stoner go down.

There'll be a seat at Suzuki in WSBK next season (Nieto goes I hope) and he should grab it if he can. On the other hand, there's no harm in taking Corsers seat (if he goes to BMW) or even riding a Ten Kate Honda. The problem with Honda is that it won't guarantee a decent seat in Motogp (like Edwards and Toseland) even if he wins the title.

He should push for Yamaha and look to replace Edwards in 2010 if he does well enough with them in 2009.

P.S. I forgot to preface all of this with his naive loyalty to Suzuki and add a Xerox Ducati WSBK option.

Spies has already said that he is not staying in the US no matter what. WSBK is a possibility, but I am sure he will be in MotoGP no matter what. He will find a ride. He is the perfect rider for marketability and I think he can be very successful. Someone will pick him up.
You really think Gresini or Alice are going to pay his salary? I'm not sure there are any satellite riders making $2 million a year, certainly none with no proven track record. Unless he rides for a lot less, and from everything I've read, that's unlikely, he won't be in GP next season. His best bet is to land the Xerox Ducati ride, which would pay him in the ballpark of what he's asking and put him on a great platform with a top manufacturer. Ducati have always been very good to their own. If he performs well then perhaps Ducati will make a seat available for him down the road or at least other manufacturers will be dealing with a known quantity.

The xerox ducati has been in discussion i think, that would be fun to watch him on the ducati.

I read last week an article in Italian mag MotoSprint about who will be Dani's teammate in HRC in 2009, "Dovizioso's danger" ... I thought they meant that Hayden could stay or they would take Vermeulen. But I was quite surprised to see that they think HRC is thinking in getting Ben Spies!!

This guy could very well be the best superbike rider ever. I think that if Mladin had gone up to WSB he would have definitely won at least a few championships. Yes he had the Yosh Suzuki which spends practically the same amount as the Rizla Suzuki team, but Mladin was checking out of races well before the Yosh Suzuki was so dominant. I saw him race at Louden way back when, and he won by a good 30 seconds or so as I recall. To make a long story short, I never thought anyone could beat Mladin. Then Spies shows up and just sts on Mladin and wins 2 straight championships, finally making the AMA a little less boring. Spies just seems to be made for WSB. Give him a year to learn all the tracks and I guarantee that he'll be a serious competitor for the title.

If I were the Factory Suzuki WSB team I'd be jumping all over this guy.

What do you think of bringing Neukirchner up to the MotoGP team? He's signed for WSB for another 2 years, but this guy is nothing but impressive in my opinion. I think if Suzuki brought up Neukirchner and put Spies on the WSB team, it could be a great move on their part.

I know Honda want an American rider but would they really pass over Dovizioso for Spies? I couldn't imagine it happening. Closest scenario I could see would be for Dovi to go to Repsol and Spies getting a factory bike with factory support at the Gresini squad.

Or how about Shinya going over to HRC, leaving Gresini with Dovizioso and Spies....that will work.
