<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Tom @ Jan 30 2007, 03:07 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>As for the others, Haslam was offered a Dantin bike for 07 but didn't want to risk it, maybe he now thinks he should have. I'm pretty sure he wants a BSB titel first.

And I think Toesland definately wants GP's, he rode an RCV at Valencia after the season finished. His Honda contract puts him first inline for a replacement ride should someone get injured, and his sponser is the same as Gresinis, setting him up to move accross easily after Toni Elias gets sacked

Wasn't Toesland offered the D'antin bike, too? They may both regret that soon. I think D'antin might be a much more professional team than last year, and now they're not on tyres made out of processed cow dung. If Barros can snatch afew podiums he might make a few green with envy.

And there's some good points there about Gresini taking on Toesland. But I'm getting more and more into the belif that Bridgestone was a bad move for the team, and they could suffer because of it, so it might not be an attractive move for Toesland. But then again, I think the bridgestones are better tyres for the ex-superbikers, and there's a good chance thier durability could improve substantially this year.

I wont give up on the Bridegestone honda idea untill i have seen poor results all season. I think its gonn apay off in time. Maybe even in 2008 for Melandri (after Rossi quits maybe).

As for The superbike thing. I'm not entirely convinced that Bayliss will have it soo easy this year. I mean he was head and shoulders above for most of last year. But towards the end of the year he wasn't finding it soo easy. He made a few mistakes, and the Ducati has barely progressed over the winter compared to the Honda in particular. Bayliss might find that to be an issue in the second half of next year.

Of course the counter argument to that is, look at what happened throughout 2006 and in testing the other day. But i don't think its all that simple.

True, I was going to bring up Bayliss's near-motoGP test times. But I guess we're going to have to disagree on this one. I'll never back down on Bayliss, and bias aside, I think he's in for another title. He's the only rider that seems able to make the 999 fast these days.
As far as Bridgestone on Hondas go, well you could very well be right, but I don't have quite as much confidence in Bridgestone, and early signs don't look good. Only time will tell. But a round of drinks says it will put Melandri in a worse position.
<

Well, i do believe in Bridgestone and think they will be an advantage soon enough. If Melandris performance gets worse(surely his qualifying can't) i will just find some other factor to blame and try to pretend it wan't the tires fault.

As for the superbike deal, i think Bayliss is obviously more likely to take it, but i don't think it'll be anywhere near as easy as last year, and JT can do it. I'll be chearing him on all the way.

If Melandri is fast for the first half of the race, then gets slowly overtaken, Ducati style, I'd blame tyres. If the bridgestones had race-long durability to match Michelin, they'd be the superior tyre. Until they do, Melandri is at a disadvantage. I think Moarco's gambling on Bridgestone setepping up this year. Having more bikes (especially his own) will help them, but if they can't match Michelin, I won't be counting on too many stellar performances from Marco. And you can't really look into the test times. Elias and Melandri aren't to hot right now, but they'll get faster as Honda gets sorted, and test times don't reflect tyre durablilty, not to us, anyway.
One thing that should make things more intresting is Capirossi's strong grip on the Asian races is under threat. I think Melandri with Bridgestones at Motegi will see him win the race.

I agree, gone are the days when Capirossi is the only Truly competative guy on Bridgestones, so all those races he ran away with might not look so easy anymore. I just can't wait.

If Bridgestone can put it together then Marco's my favourite for the title. The rate of development they've put in these last few years has been astonishing when you look at it, taking they're first win in 2004, they've been slowly winning more and more races in 2005 and 2006, 2007 could be the year we see Bridgestone take that extra step up the ladder.

Somehow I can't see Dunlop doing the same
<

If dunlop can get to s standard where more than one team is willing to run them, then the rate of improvement would start to rise quickly. This could then lead to a third competative tire brand. But first they need to get themslefes up to a more respectable level now. Their hopes rest on Tamada to sort it out this year, so i don't think its gonna be enough.
