VR46 MotoGP

Rossi did get vilified for winning here. According to this forum he sucks and only ever won a race when he had special "magic" tires.

Not true, everyone on this site has recognised that he has won races and a championship since going to control tyre. Certainly hasn't been as dominant though has he?

I don't think anyone was referring to where Repsol's refineries are located. I posted an article talking about Repsol's partnership with Saudi's Aramco. In fact, Aramco is currently assisting Repsol with building a synthetic fuel plant in Northern Spain.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-spain-energy-eu-repsol-idUSKBN2BI2BL

How does that make you feel inside?

Synthetic fuel is a super niche R&D matter. It's not material to Repsol's business.

Oh, and I work on the acquisition and financing of energy projects for a living.

He was more comfortable in 2009 than 2006 and 2007...

Look, I'm a Rossi fan. I think he's one of the best riders ever - certainly top 3.

But he's human, and he cannot escape criticism for leading an organization essentially advertising murderous medieval dictatorships where women are treated as chattels.

This is the point, some of his fans, obviously not you as this thread highlights are contorting themselves to rationalise the decision and say it OK when by any measurement it certainly isn't OK.

The mental gymnastics here are astounding.

The defense of the most corrupt and amoral piece of .... to ever hold the office of the presidency is mind-boggling.

Then trying to justify Rossi getting in bed with the House of Saud because at heart, he has no ethics, morals, or sense of fair play. I don't expect anyone to be perfect but I would always argue and always maintain that regardless of the amount of business he brought to MotoGP, he alone did more to bring the entirety of the sport into disrepute than any single person save for only Uncle Carmelo. I'm at the point where watching him ride now because his own ego doesn't know when to quit, I think back on his whole career, and realize he's always been this person. He's the king of hypocrisy in MotoGP. He demands he has free reign to do whatever he wants, accepting tobacco money when he said he never would, dirty racing against multiple riders, yet threw a .... fit when he got a taste of his own medicine, place demands on his team to the point that they chased off a multiple world champion in the process to appease his ego financially, and chase down a developmental black hole, all while trying to hold them hostage from signing other riders by trying to use his name to kowtow them into waiting on him. No wonder HRC refuses to acknowledge the overrated, hypocritical, piece of .....

I'm saying that it amounts to cognitive dissonance.
Rossi is doing this for money and power, or to save Saudi Arabian’s and the world at large with a theme park devoted to him.

Occam’s razor vs cognitive dissonance.

You are once again conjuring up false equivalences. There is as 600 points out, a world of difference between being employed by a company that has peripheral relationship to the Saudis, and actually making a conscious decision to court known human rights violators for money. It’s pointless to conflate the action of Rossi with that of Marquez.

Here’s why:

Rossi pledged his opposition to taking money from corporations that harm people.
Marquez - did not.

Can you spot the difference?

It’s like the Sesame Street song, they use to teach small children the basics of discernment and critical thinking.

One of these things is not like the other...:band1:

Rossi has now twice gone back on his pledge.
Marquez - did not.

If you follow me this far, (and I believe you do) please refute the two above statements.

Also - whether the less informed fans won’t ever know is of no consequence.
If someone kills a cop and gets away with it, it’s still murder.

The point is if Rossi is allowed to get away with this, it further encourages other bad actors to do the same or worse. When you are a leader in your field, it is incumbent upon you to see beyond your own
personal needs, and set a good example.

Marquez would never make a pledge not to take "dirty money" because he doesn't care in the first place.

If Repsol is assisting Aramco make profits, they are benefitting the Saudi government correct?? Anyone that supports Repsol is also supporting Saudi!

The entire argument is pointless because we're all picking and choosing how much to care about human rights. None of us are vowing to stop using all products manufactured in China and tossing out everything you can find with the label. That's too big of an impact on your life so you simply turn a blind eye to China. Saudi's oil money also runs deep into society and governments around the world, so we're all reaping benefits in some way shape or form, but nobody is moving to go live off the grid out of objection to receiving anything that Saudi has a hand in! If you gave a damn about what happens in Saudi, you wouldn't be watching MotoGP in the first place!

It's like most people on this forum don't realize how interconnected the world is. You can't stop benefitting from relationships with Saudi, they're built into your government!

If Human Rights violations were an Olympic sport, China would consistently win the gold! Saudi Arabia has AT LEAST been improving! Women are slowly getting rights there so Saudi is at least on a good path. China is getting WORSE! Do I have to say that again? HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS in China are INCREASING! Yet you're focused on Saudi! Why? Again, because you know trying to boycott China is too big of an impact on your life and you don't want to be uncomfortable so you're ignoring China.

:cry: Rossi's team is getting sponsorship from a Saudi oil company.:cry: Yet you shed no tears when the same oil company got involved in F1. You shed no tears when you learned the same oil company also does business with Repsol, but as soon as you learned about Rossi potentially getting money.... Cry me a river.:cry::cry::cry:

Rossi does not have to justify anything to me, and in all honesty I think the deal is a perfect match, much better than if he was sponsored by say Ferrari or Alpha Romeo or any another iconic Italian brand.

Is Rossi an evil Dictator?

No.

Is Rossi out for himself and willing to get ahead by whatever means available? Yes.

Watching Rossi fans attempting to portray the man as a saint is amusing though, blind faith an all.

Birdman, which rider on the grid isn't out for himself? Rossi is at least running a team benefiting other riders. Is there another rider doing more?

No of course not, Rossi is a saint. I am a hater of the earth is not flat variety.

He's not a saint, but he also isn't the devil and he's no less selfish than any other rider. He never had to create a platform to help other riders, but regardless of his motives he helped them. Not many other riders are helping anyone but themselves, they wouldn't even entertain the thought.

No no, he is a saint. Not for the money, but to help his fellow humans, yes that’s it. Well, as long as they are Italian, that is not Spanish. Not Honda. Not Repsol. Hate that Repsol Honda, out to get Rossi they are, along with the devil Marquez. Yet Rossi rode for them? Only for two years, the most dominant of his career. No no, Yamaha. Yes that’s it, he showed Honda there. Until Stoner that’s. No no, Stoner was a crybaby, until Marquez, 2015, damn cheat.

For ..... sack Moto, I live in outback Australia with bushfires, floods, funnel web/red back spiders, brown snakes and ducks, Yes I have fluffy little defensles ducks which the redneck neighbours attempt to shoot as I walk the dogs among the snakes. Yest the ducks survive and even laugh at me, I swear they actually laugh in their little duck quack quack way, yes moto they actually laugh at me as the rain pours down in almost Noah’s earth ending proportions. I appreciate the irony of the planet. Rossi is ok, he rides bikes fast, he’s a pretty cool dude, he does help others.

Indeed, there is plenty of irony on this planet.

As for Rossi, he's simply human with good and bad traits like the rest of us. Many studies indicate narcissists are more likely to be successful, that's why the GP and F1 grid is full of them.

Again with the absurdist, throw the baby out with the bath water argument. No one here claims to live in an ivory tower (which, ivory being a big no-no would in itself be problematical :p). None of us claim to live a Thoreau-like sylvan existence, (actually, he was pretty much living in his mother’s back yard). We all require cel phones and computers to get on with our daily existence in the modern world. That one doesn’t live in a cardboard box, is not the same as saying one doesn’t care. It’s yet another false equivalent, that you throw in the mix, whilst for the 20th time you dance around the basic questions that you can’t refute. It’s really pointless for you to continue with this line of argument. You clearly are incapable of addressing the actual issue at hand, and even now you still resort to “killing the messenger” despite the fact this is not a winning gambit.

As to picking and choosing, please clarify: Do you choose to not give a damn about human rights or just how badly Rossi’s move will reflect on the sport that we all love? Can you not step back and see, that it’s not just a black mark for Vale, it reflects badly on MotoGp as a whole.

The general sentiment in this thread is that all other riders are good and Rossi is bad.

So, you feel it incumbent upon you to set everyone straight? Do you wake in the morning, look in the mirror and find that the word “apostle” just sort of pops into your head? Do you sometimes find yourself on Amazon and for no particular reason start typing into the search window the words sack cloth, hair shirt or fiery sword?

Seriously tho, has it ever occurred to you that if you just never bothered to reply to threads like this, that they would die before the end of the first page?
