Lorenzo will have regrets if he doesn't have them already. Wondering what he could have done if he stayed at Yamaha instead of going to Ducati then HRC... that's something that will likely haunt him. In the moment (while taking things for granted) it seem like to good idea to leave, that was likely a decision influenced by emotions... it was the wrong decision. Oh well, he's still proved that when everything goes right for him he's likely the fastest rider we've seen. Can't take that away from him.
Yes, an emotional decision just like Rossi’s when he left Yamaha for Ducati. I believe he would have become the unquestioned number 1 rider again, Rossi continues to demonstrate even he can’t fight Father Time, and the bike would likely have swung back his way which it may have done now anyway.
I don’t think I or anyone else expected him to prosper at Ducati, but there was some bad luck or at least bad timing, if he had started to perform even a month earlier he imo likely would still be at Ducati riding competitively.
He retires a top 10 premier class rider all time imo, and I came to admire him mostly because of his sheer grit. I am glad he knew when to retire, staying at HRC offered him few prospects other than further injuries, again imo.
