Valencia GP 2013, Season Finale: RACE (spoilers)

Honestly, I don't know why you guys are so eager to see Hayden on the production racer.  Is he faster than Aoyama? For sure yes.  But I don't find Nakamoto's assertion that Stoner lapped around .3 secs of the prototype in the private test in Japan entirely accurate, I think that time was embellished.  Stoner is a great rider, no doubt, but I think today's time from Aoyama is more representative of what the proddy bike's pace will be. I don't think Hayden's test times will be that much faster, 2 to 3 secs off the Honda/Yam prototypes are about what I expect (around the pace of Ducati)..

Cool, we will hold you to that.

Thanks fo that, I'm getting my Marquez crashes mixed up, So many to choose fom!

Funny, 'cause I have no trouble toting up all the crashes; after all nobody else ever crashes in this sport except for MM.

It's not like Rossi or Lorenzo or Cal ever crash. Heavens no!

Aspar, being the team Hayden and Aoyama work for...

Are you in special school?

There are two bikes at the test: one is Aspar's, one is Gresini's. Obviously Gresini isn't going to lend Aspar their bike, so Aspar needs to divvy up the time between Hayden and Aoyama. I believe the point Migs was making is that Aoyama, being Japanese, was gifted first crack solely out of nepotism.

Initially, I agreed, then someone made the point that Hiro only got today, and essentially would work out the bugs. Probably works out the best for all parties involved.

well just this year, Marquez crashed 15 times. Lorenzo 3.

Oh and in 15 crashes, no serious injury. Lorenzo, 2 in 3. Marquez has been "a little" lucky this year.

I made this statistic earlier in this thread. Colin Edwards once said that crashing was the quickest way to establish your limits. Crucially Marquez has only crashed once in a race.

Watching MM race this season I'd say he induces and subsequently saves a front ender/low side practically every other corner.

The two wheel drifts at Valencia were Stoneresque in their sublimity.

I'm glad you did, because my prediction was more accurate.

"Nicky Hayden is back in the Honda MotoGP swing of things and is riding for the manufacturer for the first time since he joined Ducati in 2009.

Already, Hayden has done 46 laps with a best so far of 1'32.582 set just before lunchtime and, with his reputation for hard work, he will probably double that number before the day is out. He is currently on the same pace as 2013 team-mate Andrea Dovizioso."

The fastest ever lap at Valencia - 1'30.237 Hayden's fastest ever lap at Valencia - 1'31.870 Haydens fastest lap on a bike he just threw his leg over for the first time - 1'32.576 - three-quarters of a second down.

So yeah, you were right about Hayden's test times. But if we discount the amazing performances put in by Lorenzo and Marquez, and look at someone who, as a rider, is more on a par with Hayden, we find his times very respectable:

Bradl (factory RCV - pneumatic valves, seamless gearbox and all that ....) fastest ever lap at Valencia - 1'31.638, .9 of a second. Bradl on 2014 machine - 1.5sec faster. But then the RCV is the 2013-spec bike and we need to see what happens with more laps from Nicky - he has to cast off the Ducan'ti Demons... learn to trust the bike :)

Like others have said in other threads, it is a bike that is basically the filling in-between the factory and CRT sandwich. Not going to be fast enough to threaten Honda/Yam prototypes but can beat the CRTs. Basically building just another mid to backmarker package that really doesn't change anything.

MM benefits greatly from the special chemicals Honda pumps through him every night as he sleeps.  This procedure leeches calcium from his bones, leaving his skeleton flexible and extra bouncy.   :bounce:

They tried it the other way with Dani - adding gobs of bone density in an attempt to strengthen his midget frame.  This worked to a degree (like most insects, Dani can lift 20x his body weight!) but at the expense of great fragility.  His bones are literally like glass - very strong, but brittle as hell.

There is no more CRT. Entries are either 'Factory' or 'Open'. Hayden's new bike is probably one of the better Open class rides but he hasn't been relevant in MotoGP for 6 years so obviously he's not going to do anything of note with it.

Does BM hate him for downshifting to kick the back out?

Edit: Ooops, that was 4 eyed Aleix...

I noticed that ...... and it was Pol? doing it ....... Marky not.

I deemed Marky almost as good as an Aussie kid for that.

If only he had attended the berryBS school of racing. He could have learned how to do that by just shifting his body position.
